NC sheriff: Arm yourselves

| August 6, 2014

Sheriff Larry Rollins

According to the Washington Times, yet another lawman has come out to urge residents of his county to protect themselves until his deputies can get to the scene.

Harnett County Sheriff Larry Rollins told a crowd Monday night at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church that there has been an explosion of violence and crime in the area, a local ABC affiliate reported.

“When I am out with my family, even though I am a cop, I don’t go anywhere without a gun,” he said. “I mean it’s sad we have to have that attitude, but I am going to protect myself and my family. I want my deputies at your house just as fast as they can when you got a problem, but you better be able to take care of business until we get there if you have to protect your family.”

From ABC11;

This part of the county’s landscape of rural life is quickly giving way to a population boom, and residents are worried. Several residents said they are afraid to leave their homes — afraid of the growing violence.

[…]

Several speakers urged the residents to call deputies if they see something suspicious, and to keep a sharp eye out for themselves and their neighbors.

Communist News Network, HuffBlow, and MSNBS starting screaming that he’s a racist in 3, 2, 1…

Way ahead of you, Sheriff.

MAJMike

Yup. Being carrying a pistol since 1971.

If I weren’t happy where I am, I’d move there in a heartbeat.

Almost sounds like they have a meth problem there.

I think most county sheriffs are of the same opinion, that a honest, armed citizen isn’t a threat and even a help to law enforcement. It’s the big city political hacks posing as police chiefs and the union heads who are of the leftist anti-gun bent.

The Other Whitey

Makes sense. Sheriffs are elected. Big-city police chiefs are usually whichever useless lazy jerkoff managed to suck the right local politician’s dick.

Our county Sheriff has flatly refused to comply with Maryland’s ridiculous new gun laws, and there’s nothing Owe’Malley can do about it.

Police do not prevent crimes. For a cop to actually do something, there must be a crime committed or in progress. It’s up to you and me to prevent crime.

but but COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING!!!

lol @ libtard textbook policing.

This is a hop, skip, jump away from me. And I would say that I agree. We are having break-ins in broad daylight when the occupants are home, FFS and I live in Wake County. I had avoided being armed, because of my PollyAnna brain…but no more. Waiting on my second permit. No lying down, anymore.

DefendUSA…I grew up in the mountains of NC. Then we moved to Durham. I returned there after my military service and transferred to where I am now in 1979. I email friends who are still there and when I talk about coming back to see the “old home town”, they say don’t. They tell me it has changed so much since I was there that I not only wouldn’t recognize it, I would be deeply disappointed at what I would see in terms of crime and it’s causing sources. I feel for you there in Wake County and the Raleigh area. I imagine it is pretty bad too. I think you made the right choice. To be forewarned is to be forearmed they say. I say, to be forearmed is better than forewarned. To be prepared to live instead of die, should that awful time happen. Good luck my friend.

In St. Louis brazen mass beatings in public are going to be stopped by video cameras the police say.

Sounds like they need a Sheriff Larry Rollins over there to tell citizens the truth.

Here in Oklahoma, the Head LEOs do not even brother to say that. I would bet that we have about 3 firearms per household. A high caliber deer rifle,a shotgun and some kind of handgun. Yet we still have home invasions. We have a strong castle law. Joe

That’s what most of the gun-grabbers don’t get, is the rural communities. I live in Kansas, and certainly not in the biggest county in the state. Our county, however, is roughly 3/4 the size of Rhode Island, and on a weekday night has 2 Sheriff’s Deputies on duty, maybe 3 on the weekend. If you live outside of a town, chances are that you’re looking at a 30 minute response time MINIMUM. The problem only gets worse the further west you go, with the exception of big cities. Hell, there’s a borough in Alaska that’s almost the size of Montana. What do you think the response time is there?

I live in a CCW State that has a strong Castle Doctrine Law, and it has CCW Reciprocity with a number of other states. For the last three years, both my beloved Wife and I have legally carried while we were on vacation thanks to that, I’ve been packing for over 15 years now, and the only time I’ve ever drawn and fired was at a wild hog while I was helping my Father-in-Law fix a fence! Every time a State has debated and passed a CCW Law, libtards like some of the inbred trolls that infest threads here bawl about how things will devolve into Wild West-style shoot outs, but every time, the opposite happens and violent crime rates nosedive. Just compare the per capita violent crime rate of Chicago against that of Kennesaw, GA which has an ordinance on its books requiring every adult resident legally allowed to own a firearm to have at least one in their household with the correct ammo for it, I rest my case! I know I’m mostly “Preaching to the Choir” here, but I just had to add my two cents’ worth. Yeah, Law Enforcement are usually minutes away when seconds count, the average response time to a 911 Emergency call is 20-25 minutes, and the response to a burglar or home invader from my M1911 is about 850 FPS every time I pull the trigger! Yeah, I’m the type of Husband that makes anti-gunners shit themselves, I treated my beloved Mrs. To a .380ACP Ruger with Crimson Trace sights for her birthday two years ago, and she returned the favor by buying me the .357 Magnum I wanted for Christmas as well as buying another Ruger LCP in .380 for my Sister. DAMN, I love being a Right-Winger!!
