More open carry antics
Remember last November when Paul Anthony Ciancia took his scary black gun in the Los Angeles airport and shot up the place? He killed one TSA agent and wounded two others. I guess that wasn’t on the mind of Peter Nathan Steinmetz when he made his “political statement” on July 25th when he strolled around Phoenix’s main airport with his scary black gun;
“I am a peaceful political activist and my purpose in walking around the airport with my AR-15 rifle was entirely political in nature,” Steinmetz said at a news conference with his attorney. “I am also an educated and responsible gun owner. … As I was making this political statement, I was careful not to disturb or endanger anyone.
“At all times, I was extremely careful to ensure my firearm was never pointed at anyone. … The safety was engaged at all times,” Steinmetz said.
[…]
“I believe I have now made the important point that peaceful and responsible people can safely be trusted to handle firearms — even AR-15s, even at the airport,” Steinmetz said. “There is never anything to fear from peaceful, responsible gun owners.”
The only thing I get from Steinmetz is that he’s another of those attention whores who push the limits of common sense. I carry a gun when I go to the airport, too, but I carry it concealed. Funny thing is, while I’m carrying my weapon concealed, no one is frightened by my presence, either. I know these morons think that they’re helping, but they’re really not.
By the way, I noticed that Open Carry Texas is following us on Twitter – *waves*.
Category: Guns
Sigh.
That’s all I can muster this morning.
Idiots. I hate in your face, activist. Even if I actually agree with the position you are trying to express, getting in my face only pisses me off.
yeah that.
Jonn, tell the truth – you did use all your fingers when you waved, right? (smile)
It wasn’t the first time he carried the weapon into the airport but now that he has been arrested, he says he won’t do it again because his point is made. He could have made the exact same point by walking around the terminal wearing a sandwich board reading, “I am a moron.”
Sorry TAH, you’ve got it wrong. Open Carry advocates are the ONLY people who truly support the 2nd Amendment. Anyone who opposes OC is a coward, traitor, oathbreaker or “butter”. The true way to support the 2A is to do dumbass things that turn regular Joe against the 2A, like carrying your AR into an airport to buy coffee. The raging fools who walk around in Chipotle carrying an SKS with at least $30 of Chinese accessories, in a combat-ready hold, are the REAL 2A warriors.
We’ve only carried rifles into hostile foreign lands where thousands of people wanted to kill us. They, on the other hand, have carried their rifles into Chili’s and the airport, where there was no threat to them at all. God bless those brave 2A defenders!
You nailed it. That’s exactly what those open carry kooks think about the rest of us rubes. The nuts on this guy to carry and AR into an airport. Jesus Christ, he’s lucky he didn’t get shot by some trigger happy airport rent a fuzz. This is just counterproductive in my opinion.

Brave? There is nothing brave about bullies and thugs who need to display their “manhood” this way. Pitiful, yes. Certainly not brave.
I’m guessing you didn’t catch the sarcasm. 🙂
You forgot to add that /sarc
To be fair, you were laying it on pretty thick.
Scary black rifle carried in public on an ego trip = tiny penis.
Those idiots do more damage to gun owners than does bloomberg and feinstien combined.
After several attempts to verbalize my reaction to this idiot, I find it impossible to improve on the comments from 2/17 and rb325th.
Like other, I got nothing that would improve on the comments. He’s an idiot and not helping the cause. Just because you can do something doesn’t always make it a good idea to actually do it.
All I can say is I hope he doesn’t breed.
This is why we need life guards at the gene pool….
More like living, breathing PROOF that the Gene Pool is in DIRE need of some chlorine! He must have snuck in while the Lifeguard was taking a break!
Alan Korwin says the charges are dropped. I’ll be surprised if that’s not the end of it.
In the meantime, I see the occasional handgun in a nice holster and don’t miss a beat. I don’t think anything will come of that, at least until the primaries are over.
Frank Riggs is the only candidate for governor who has an original opinion on the 2nd Amendment, and another one had to go to the AzCDL for talking points, but no one else has said mum. Terry Goddard’s the only Dem candidate and as much as I appreciate his time as AG, I still haven’t forgotten his opposition along with several four-star ‘police’ princes to the 2009 bill that eventually became permitless concealed carry.
The only time I ever open carry is when hunting or going on a search & rescue. Dull as it seems to tohers, I’d rather keep doing what I’ve done since I was 14 years old. The rest of the time? I’ll just let the bad boys and girls guess. 😎
The only times I open carry is when I salmon fish or hunt moose (bears).
I admit to open carrying most of the time. But then, my wheelchair mostly hides my gun so someone has to look mighty hard to see it. I can understand and even agree with the point the open carry types are trying to make. I disagree vehemently with the way that they are doing it. Carrying a long gun in public places like a restaurant or airport is foolhardy and ends up making more enemies than friends. Why those open carry advocates can’t see that is beyond me. it’s either they are too dull to comprehend the damage that they are doing or they simply don’t care.
Tard.
Ok. I’ve stayed quiet for the most part when these issues arise, but I do have a question which my esteemed colleagues might have an answer for.
What, if any, is the need to have a long rifle openly carried anywhere? I understand hunting trips. Got it and understand, but really? You have a need to open carry a Ar-15 or other big black scary gun to Walmart or another public place?
I understand it’s the principle that is being fought, but I don’t understand the need. To me it only hurts the 2nd Amendment folks cause.
Publicly causing panic is not going to win this fight. Your fighting perception.
I don’t know, and I am rambling a bit.
It makes the carrier look tough, or so he thinks.
Me – I’d just wear a Colt in a leg holster. Where I live you need one for coyotes and snakes – not the 4-leggers, the other kind.
No problem with pistols, completely understand. I also understand a long gun would be useful when out in the wild. Walmart or other public places…..not so much.
Concealed carry of handguns is legal in Texas, as is open carry of long guns. They are trying to show people that by their example that if there is no harm done with long guns, then there should be no problem legalizing open carry of handguns, which is currently forbidden. Of course, when they essentially tick off many of their supporters and all of their detractors, it’s a pointless exercise. Unless they are really closet Brady supporters, which seems to be what they are actually accomplishing.
I’ve been somewhere that open carry is either heavily encouraged or outright required (I think it was lost in translation). It’s called Israel, where they are under threat of attack at all times.
In America we don’t have that problem all over. Sure, along the southern parts of the Border states, it’s almost as bad. But, when you go to an airport…
Also, who the hell goes to an airport to buy coffee? I can promise your local Starschmucks is far less crowded and busy. There’s also less of a chance of you getting arrested by TSA.
Remember? Thy already pissed off Starbucks and are not welcome carrying openly there.
Dang – that’s almost like yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater.
Dumb ass ain’t helping the cause.
OC
This is the doofus who swung his weapon toward two women, who apparently thought he was pointing it at them (an “educated and responsible gun owner,” my left hind foot!)
I’m waiting for some moron to do that with a veteran. I just hope somebody posts the resulting beat down on YouTube!
Pinto, the charges against him were dropped because surveillance video footage shows that what they alleged did not happen.
I’m not a fan of long gun open carry (and don’t do pistol OC as a personal preference), but this guy was wrongfully arrested because he didn’t brandish or even muzzle sweep anyone at all.
These guys are the right’s equivalent to those liberal gals that march topless for women’s rights…
….but not as fun to watch 😉
