Metro DC police won’t enforce gun ban

| July 28, 2014

The Washington Post reports that Chief Cathy Lanier of DC’s Metropolitan Police Department has instructed her officers that DC’s residents who are in possession of legally registered gun outside of their homes won’t be subject to the gun laws that were overturned this weekend. The lifting of the ban includes non-residents of the District.

In an order approved by Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier, police were told that District residents are permitted to carry pistols if the weapons are registered. Those who had not registered their handguns could be charged on that ground, the instruction said.

The number of registered pistols is thought to be low.

Lanier’s instructions to police also said that residents of other jurisdictions without felony records would not be charged under the ban on carrying pistols.

Meanwhile, Ted Gest, the spokesman for the D.C. attorney general’s office, which defended the handgun ban in court, said it will “be seeking a stay shortly,” so the order by U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. may not be in effect for long.

[…]

Scullin, a senior U.S. District Court judge who normally sits in the Northern District of New York, wrote in his ruling that he was stopping enforcement of the law “unless and until” the city adopted a constitutionally valid licensing mechanism.

But, don’t bring your gun into the District through Maryland – they’re still stuck in the 20th Century.

Question, isn’t DC a mishmash of jurisdictions, where say, the Capitol Police have some territory, and other agencies have their physical turf? Aside from DC Metro?

I’d hate to see an otherwise law abiding citizen get arrested because they weren’t in DC proper.

The stupidity of the libs continues to amaze even someone as cynical as this old fart Grunt is…
We are winning the gun control fight yet the controllers continue to do everything they can do to stop us from our God Given right to keep and bear arms…
Sigh…

From what I have read there are twenty-five or more separate Police powers in DC. I sure would not risk carrying a gun there that was not concealed.

NavCWORet

Does this equate only to open carry ? Is there still a separate requirement to get a concealed carry permit ?

NavCWORet

This really only applies to open carry, correct ? Concealed still requires a separate license.

It’s a trap!

AndyFMF

Absolutely. Once the owners register, probably in less than a year, the DC Chief will reverse herself.

This is excellent news. Now for the last effort- the abolishment of “may issue” requirements.

vietnam war protestor aka uss liberty aka deport republicans not the children

Now more children will be shot. We will have to wait for next vacancy on supreme court to stop this madness!

No, VWP, they won’t. The ones who were shot before were shot with illegal weapons in the hands of criminals, and that won’t change. You may, however, see more shootings by legal gun owners defending themselves.

And you haven’t seen madness until you see a society that is flooded with guns ban them.

This is some footage of VWP working in a “wealth and weed redistribution program in DC.”

Old Dog, I just enjoyed that SO MUCH. I truly did.

But the guy in the blue shirt needs to work on his technique. Flailing arms won’t work on hippies.

Not one of those clowns knows how to fight. That was pathetic.

Wesley Wilson AKA Enigma4you

Get your head out of your ass VWP we cant understand you

BUT,,,, How many children might be saved because they are defended by a legal gun in the hands of a law abiding citizen?????????

“A federal judge who struck down the District of Columbia’s ban on carrying handguns outside the home has stopped his ruling from going into effect for about three months so city lawmakers can respond with new legislation.”
