Devon Bishop & Jessica Jusino; Sailors saving the world
WVEC reports that Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Second Class Devon Bishop and Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Third Class Jessica Jusino from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln were having lunch together the other day in Newport News, Virginia when they saw smoke coming from a nearby house;
Officials said a bystander told two sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln, who had come to investigate after seeing smoke, that an elderly woman was still inside the home.
The two sailors entered through a side door and were able to locate the woman and assist her out of the home.

“Their quick-thinking and brave actions allowed the female to escape unharmed,” fire officials wrote in a press release.

I don’t know how far-progressed that fire was, but I’ve seen firsthand that it spreads a lot more rapidly than most people realize, so this was a ballsy move either way. If it was already charging with smoke, and they went in iron-lung, that’s pretty damn impressive, all the more so that they successfully made a pick.
I know that sailors all get at least basic-level training in shipboard firefighting, but that’s also a much different discipline from structure firefighting. They faced an extremely hazardous condition for which they were completely unprepared, and they took care of business and got it done anyway!
Strong work, sailors!
I don’t care how much training we Sailors got in boot camp (which wasn’t much), it takes BIG balls to go into a burning house.
Well done, shipmates.
I see a Navy and Marine Corps Medal in their future. They deserve it.
+1
Bravo zulu!
Well done, sailors. Damn well done.
Devon Bishop and Jessica Jusino, way to go! You two showed great courage and someone is alive today because of you. Bravo Zulu!
BZ! Not bad for a couple of skimmers!
Airdales 🙂
But, yeah.
Skimmers, Airdales, the only difference is the size of the target. 😉
BZ Boats.
Excellent story. These two Sailors were very brave, and deserve to be recognized.
Good job!! Ballsy move. If they want a real military award, though, they need to sit beside a keyboard safely tucked away on a FOB and nominate each other between rounds of World of Warcraft like the rest of the senior enlisted and junior officers.
Outstanding job Sailors!!
Bravo Zulu! Bravely done. My late father was a career Navy officer, and you’re doing his Navy proud.
Their Shipboard Firefighting and Flight Deck Firefighting training…hopefully they were not wearing their ‘Aquaflage’ from what I heard that uniform is highly flammable and not used when At Sea as a result.
Regardless, BZ Shipmates!
Having been involved in fighting a flight deck fire on the Nimitz all I can say is damn good job to you both! BZ shipmates!
Excellent! 🙂
lol wtf is up with that picture.
Sleeves up and sleeves down.
US Navy, fix yourself.
