Congress’ hearing on Bergdahl
Derek sends us a link to Fox News in regards to yesterday’s hearing about the appropriateness of trading five high value prisoners for Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl;
The House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing was an open forum to discuss the prisoner swap, and featured testimony from lawmakers, soldiers who served with Bergdahl and Andy Andrews, the father of a soldier who was reportedly killed during the search for Bergdahl. No Obama administration officials appeared at the hearing.
Cotton, R-Ark., criticized the rationale behind the trade. He said the Obama administration’s assertion that it made the trade in order to never leave a comrade behind is “insulting and offensive.”
“When we made those promises to each other, we didn’t promise we would exchange five stone cold terrorists for each other,” Cotton, a veteran himself, said.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., echoed Cotton’s concerns, saying the swap makes Americans less safe.
Also there was Specialist Cody Full, a former mate from Bergdahl’s unit. From CNN;
Spc. Cody Full, who was Bergdahl’s roommate before their deployment and served closely with him at the base, said at the hearing that he has no doubt Bergdahl deserted and that the desertion was pre-meditated.
“Knowing that someone you needed to trust deserted you in war and did so on his own free will is the ultimate betrayal,” Full told members of two subcommittees of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Mike Waltz, who commanded an Army Special Forces unit in eastern Afghanistan when Bergdahl was captured, told subcommittee members that all military resources in that part of the country were redirected to search for Bergdahl and that the Taliban capitalized on that effort to launch attacks.
“They began feeding false information into our informant network in order to lure our forces into a trap,” Waltz said.

I’m starting to dislike anyone and everyone directly mixed up in this whole affair. Of course, not to the level that I dislike Birdbarf and his durkha durkha jihadi dad, which is outright hatred.
This Cody guy comes off as a melodramatic whiner. Betrayal implies that you trusted your betrayer when they betrayed you. If he knew that birdnuts was a whackjob before they deployed then I find it hard to believe that he trusted the guy at all.
All of us vets went overseas with people we trusted unconditionally, because they had earned it. But we also went over with some that we wouldn’t trust at all. This looney tunes shitheel sounds like the latter and Cody should say so instead of being such a drama queen.
Former 11B…”All of us vets went overseas with people we trusted unconditionally, because they had earned it. But we also went over with some that we wouldn’t trust at all.”
Here-Here. That was my experience. Guys I would trust unconditionally, to watch over me while I got much needed sleep. Then the guys I wouldn’t have trusted to open my C-Rats, much less watch my back.
Statements like the one he read can be placed into the record by motion. Then, the witness can speak plainly and answer questions in a normal give and take session. Reading testimony, especially by someone who isn’t a polished public speaker, is ill advised. So, the stuff comes across as stilted and stiff with a touch of “I can’t wait to get done reading this” thrown in.
So many stories on this deserter…I hope he fries if the truth comes out that he is guilty of what is being said that he is a traitor who actively sought out the enemy.
I find it interesting that not ONE Command person has come forward to rebut what is being said to clear this guy…its very telling.
Toasty,
We most likely will not see/hear from anyone in his command chain. Because if they are still serving they want to continue getting promoted. If we get lucky someone from his chain with integrity or getting ready to retire might speak up. But I for one am not holding my breath.
Did they not teach the low crawl in basic training in the ’08-’09 time period? You private Bergdahl are a no go at this station.
Cant wait to see if any of Turddogs officers come forward or are even aloud to speak.
Where are the officers in all this? Can’t some lowly LT or CAPT speak up? Surely they are all not still on active duty.
Also, why weren’t sworn statements taken from the platoon members at the time Bergdahl went ” walkabout”? If they were, I haven’t heard any mention of their existence.
