About That Claim Bergdahl Was In “Imminent Danger” . . . .

| June 9, 2014

Remember that claim by Administration officials that they needed to expedite the exchange of five Taliban for Bergdahl because Bergdahl was in extremely poor health? Health so poor that they were concerned that his life was in “imminent danger” of dying soon?

Well, seems that “concern” apparently was misplaced. If such a concern ever existed at all – and wasn’t just more Administration dissembling to hide the real reason the deal was jammed through so quickly.

US medical personnel have now had a chance to examine Bergdahl and evaluate his post-release physical condition. He’s been examined.

He was reportedly found to be ”healthier than expected” and “physically sound”.  So much for his being in “imminent danger” of death.

Look, I don’t have a clue as to Bergdahl’s current physical condition.  But I can certainly see that what’s been released by the Administration to date as a rationale for expediting the deal which gained his release is, to be charitable, “highly questionable if not completely inaccurate”.

This new information clearly disproves the Administration’s claim regarding why the deal for Bergdahl’s release was expedited.  Clearly Bergdahl’s life was not in any “imminent danger” of death due to poor health.

Hell, even Senator Diane Feinstein, D-CA – a key Administration ally who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee – isn’t buying it. When asked her opinion regarding an imminent threat to Berghdal’s life, she stated:  “I don’t think there was a credible threat. I have no information that there was.”

At this point I’m not inclined to write this one off as just a simple error by the Administration, either.  Either the Administration was so clueless as to let itself be horribly duped, or it was outright lying when it offered Bergdahl’s health as the reason for expediting the deal for his release.  The former shows gross incompetence; the latter is reprehensible behavior.  Neither is acceptable.

Now, why would the Administration dissemble about the reason for expediting the deal for Bergdahl’s release? You don’t suppose the real reason for jamming the deal through quickly (and in violation of Federal law regarding informing Congress well in advance of the release of any terrorist detained at Guantanamo) might have been to deflect attention from the current VA scandal, do you?

Nah. This Administration would never do something like that!  Why, how dare anyone suggest such a thing!

Yeah, right. And I’m the freaking rightful Emperor of China, too.

Well, if he’s physically sound and not in danger of imminent death, isn’t the administration’s rationale for breaking the law proven false? Obama’s signing statement said he would bypass in “exigent circumstances”, but this isn’t that exigent anymore, is it? And is it a good idea to break the law that you signed and lie to the people who are in position to judge you for it?

OldSoldier54

About as much chance as the survival of a snowflake in Hell.

The Other Whitey

Even if he could be convicted, who the hell wants to make Joe Biden president?

The Gunny

Joe would go into brain lock which is better than what this POS muslim is pulling!

Unfortunately, Obama lying about why they had to get him out of there is acceptable with the American people. It happens all the time in the US, every day, when a cop pulls you over for going 30 in a 35 and then makes excuse after excuse to give you a field sobriety test i.e. I pulled you over because you were doing 30 in a 35. Have you had anything to drink, tonight? I’m asking because you’re eyes appear blood shot. Would you step out of the vehicle and put your feet together. I gave you the sobriety test because Icaught the faint smell of alcohol when I was standing outside your vehicle.

All perfectly legal and a cop would never lie; right? So no one questions it.

Same with this; the administration had painted themselves into a corner, or so congress thought, but they used the same tactics that the police use to justify their actions and get through the loophole.

I’m not going to grouse about it. They outsmarted congress, so suck it up.

Your analogy isn,t sound, first of Obama could careless about Bergdahl or any other soldier in the military in fact he hates it.secondly Bergdahl was the excuse to release 5 mass murderers back to the fight.Cops are not as methodical or evil as Obama. What gets me is if you listen to what Obama says in a speech about his intentions for America He tells you what he,s going to do,but obviously people in this country are so damn stupid and uninformed they just don,t care.As the joke goes a million people showed up for Obamas inauguration and only 8 missed work.I think Obama is going to really hit the gas he only has 2 1/2 years to finish off the country, and even if the republicans win the senate it won,t matter, unless someone takes his pen and suspends his verizon account we are phucked

Taking bets that Bergdahl will be held in Germany until he can be thoroughly coached for his presentation to the press. They will have a problem with evading prosecution if he starts spouting jihadi rants to the news boys.
It looks like it will be quite a show with papa bear wearing his afgha-beard and mamabear in afgha-skarve. Back to those family scenes eating goat and yoghurt.
Barry is gonna be digging deep to bury this one.

Tom Huxton…I agree sir. He won’t get a good debriefing by the military because the military will not be able to shove the administration’s turds out of they way long enough to talk to him. You bet your ass he’s being, “up briefed” by the Obama crew on what to do, what to saw and not say and how to behave. You know, just in case a press conference gets out of hand with hard questions he can swoon and feign passing out from exhaustion or some such. Then the “poor, poor boy has been hounded by the press into poor health again. Oh the strain he must be under.” And let’s not even begin to talk about PTSD. That little jewel is being saved by him and the Obama crew for the really tough times. It’ll be his trump card for all questions, “too tough to remember without bringing back horrible memories”. It’s the old, “Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along”.

And after awhile, the narrative will change to, “What does it matter.” This president can do damned near anything he wants and get away with it. With Dems in the majority, the Senate will never vote to remove Obama from office and the Reps are too scared of backlash, being called racists for impeaching the turd.

Tom Huxton

It will eventually turn toward being a well planned strategic manouvre. The scenario; One perp retires to write his memoir, another becomes a pet muji to some Sheikh, the other three become drone targets en route to the old battle field.

Pinto Nag

Any attempt to impeach Obama will resort in extensive rioting and possibly a race war in this country. That’s where we are as a nation at this point, and the politicians are very aware of it.

Pinto Nag

“…will RESULT in…”

Sorry.

ArmyATC

Absolutely. Imagine the 1965 Watts Riots or the 1992 LA (Rodney King) riots in every major American city.

Iman Azol

Imagine it? I welcome it.

Eric

I disagree, because Morgan Freeman Said So….

“Titty Sprinkles.”

😛

royh

Is it sad that I have to say that I hope they were “horribly duped”?

Sparks

royh I understand but I am afraid they planned this knowing his health was in no worse condition than the last five years. He was in no imminent threat of being killed. I am sad to say we have a president who thinks he is smarter than all of us and therefore can do as he likes. Thinking Americans play chess. Obama is still outsmarted on a moderate game of checkers.

ArmyATC

And the world laughs at us.

more like “Tag” or “Hopscotch”

Evil Airgod

I think it was a twofer; get the VA story off the front pages but more insidiously than that, he’s wanted to close GITMO from before day 1 in office.

He’s been looking for an excuse to start setting them free and decided to use the Bergdahl hostage situation as a smokescreen to set the first 5 free.

The Haqqani (sp?) wanted money and up until December last year, the regime was negotiating the price. In December, the regime changed their position to terrorist release as the “preferred” swap for Bergdahl. Now, why would they do that if the Haqqani wanted money? It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if someone paid a ransom to the Haqqani secretly and the regime threw the 5 terrorists in as the cover story.

Bingo … Follow the money.

I might suggest that someone has some splaining to do!

I was in doushbagastan when the green on blue attacks (insider attacks)really took off at a high rate. Some of the larger bases would not allow troops to carry a loaded weapon(mag in but not chambered). That was imminent danger.

This dude was well taken care of for some reason when the Taliban SOP is to kill/torture/behead, and in the Taliban video of his swap, his captors/buddies/lovers/whatever did not seem to be talking to him in a threatening manner (disclaimer: my Pashto is limited so how would I know, I am going only by body language) and he did not look worried.

My personal thoughts are that they had a big going away dinner party for their “brother” before his swap. Maybe in a year or two, he and his parents can go back for a visit/reunion.

OWB

There is one other possibility which makes enough sense to be a little scary: Bergdahl could really have been in eminent danger of being killed by his “captors” simply because he was of no further use to them. The trick is, how would anyone officially know that, and would they be able to admit it?

Roger in Republic

Bergdahls health was not even a consideration until the swap exploded into a steaming pile of shit. The Whitehouse expected a wave of euphoria to sweep over the American people and got a wave of sewage in their faces instead. Only then did the spinmeisters come up with the health concerns scenario. Stevie Wonder could have seen this coming.
