Thomas Keller: Ten years for stealing from DAV
Marine_7002 sends us a link to the Detroit Free Press in regards to Thomas Keller who was sentenced to 10 years “in custody” Friday for stealing $160,281.99 from the Disabled American Veterans organization;
He tried and failed to choke back tears as he offered more apologies during testimony.
“I would like to say to the veterans that I’m sorry. I’m sorry I let you down,” he said. Throughout his sentencing hearing, he maintained that he stole the funds because he had been ill, lost his job and fallen behind on bills.
“Why did you steal? Did you do it to support your lifestyle?” prosecutors asked.
“I still had to pay utilities,” he answered, adding that his motorcycle had been repossessed and his house foreclosed upon.
[…]
When prosecutors mentioned that some of the checks were written to Staples, Comcast and Verizon, Keller became almost hostile.
“With all due respect, I’ve already plead guilty. I’ve taken full responsibility,” he said.
Keller said he just started taking a few bucks at a time, but it was like a drug, I guess.
The organization asked him for a full financial accounting back in 2010 and instead of doing that, he’d hoped they’d just forget about it, then he dropped out of sight when they called for a complete audit. So, good plan, Tommy.

Yeah, right. If this asshole was truly sorry and he was really taking full responsibility, he’d have tried to find a way before going to court to at least start paying back the money he stole.
Fuck him.
Glad they got him and sentenced him to a long term. Don’t know how much of it he will do because he is virtually “white crime” guy compared to most so when jail crowding starts again, he’ll be one of the first considered for early release.
With NO due respect…..you are shedding tears because you got caught…not because you are sorry.
A white boy sentenced to hard time in a Southern prison?
I’d cry, too!
Potentially suicidal?
My giveashitometer reads ZERO when pointed at him, all I’d ever say to him is “*SQUUUUUEEEEEAAAL* FOR BUBBA & THOR, BITCH!!”!
Finally some justice.
First I want to say to everyone saying eff him and all the negativity… Chill out.
All my life he told me to accept responsibility for what you do. When you own the media you bend it to what you want and how you want people to perceive it. I’m not condoning nor saying it was right. But he is like all you people, human. Self preservation is what everyone is doing. He was trying preserve his way of life, for his family. Before he chose to do what he did, the house was repossessed. Motorcycle was repo’d. What happens to you and your morals when you’re backed into a corner.
I feel like he, with a heavy heart, is doing what he told me all my life. Taking responsibility for his actions. He said to live my life as he said, not as he did. It affects more than him. His children are affected. I’m grown and haven’t lived with him for a while but I have two younger sisters that have to grow up with out their father during their childhood.
I’m not sympathizing one way or the other. I’ve had to accept that my dad is not apart of my life to the extent a father should be.I’m a veteran myself. I have done volunteer work for the DAV more than I’d ever get credit for. I know he did wrong but he has to live with it.
If you knew the facts. The ins and outs. You wouldn’t throw such hateful things around. Who does it hurt now? He’s in prison with no computer, he can’t see the eff you’s and ill will wished upon him. I do. So with the hate, the only people you’re talking bad to is his family.
This guy is a loser.
And I think you know it.
Jk…While I understand as his son, your feelings about him you need to step back and look from the victim’s perspective. When he was writing checks to Staples, Comcast and Verizon for things that are not necessary when your “backed into a corner”, as you wrote, that is luxury not need. The sympathy meter pegs off scale to the left. He committed these crimes against veterans and he was sentenced accordingly. As to comments only having meaning now to his family, you and the rest of his family are under no obligation to come here to read. This blog and thread will always be here. It is a record of not only his crimes but many others exposed here. So, if this poses a problem for you, change channels so to speak.
