Emanuel skips out on taxes?
Lawhawk wrote yesterday that Rahm Emanuel is steeped in the mortgage crisis at Freddie Mac as a member of the board of that entity;
Emanuel was on the board of Freddie Mac when Freddie Mac was cooking the books. He didn’t blow the whistle on the situation or the fact that the entity was about to go broke over the subprime mess, which he and his fellow Democrats chose to ignore for years in the name of affordable housing. As ABC News now reports:
President-elect Barack Obama’s newly appointed chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, served on the board of directors of the federal mortgage firm Freddie Mac at a time when scandal was brewing at the troubled agency and the board failed to spot “red flags,” according to government reports reviewed by ABCNews.com.
According to a complaint later filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Freddie Mac, known formally as the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, misreported profits by billions of dollars in order to deceive investors between the years 2000 and 2002.
No one has accused Emanuel of wrongdoing in those complaints, but one really ought to question his judgment and inability to note the serious problems facing Freddie Mac.
Reading it reminded me of a piece that Rurik emailed me the other day, so when I went to the article I had just read yesterday, I bumped into this;
Through the magic of the internet, though, I tracked down a cached copy;
This guy did a lot of research and he deserves credit for it, but I don’t want to get him in trouble with his local government,
However it looks like something that could be a pattern of behavior among these thugs. Obama has relatives living in poverty around the world, yet he doesn’t spend a penny (of his own money) to lift them up – yet he and his pals get sweet deals on real estate and get to avoid paying the taxes that they hike on us.

It seems like Chicago and Cook County, IL have a bit of Animal Farm going for them:
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
Will we be seeing this on a national scale, now that Obama’s been elected President, after all, he is a radical socialist.

Probably not…as teflon properties seem to have prevailed…Isn’t it a shame that Obama and his minions get away with so much? I don’t understand it. I don’t believe anyone in the Bush admin had so many skeletons.

Obama was the MSM’s and the press’ choice for President and although they’re not the only method of getting the news, they’re still the dominant source. They didn’t want to hear about Obama’s past associations, mentors and supporters and wouldn’t report on it, choosing instead to go after Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber like rabid pitbulls. When you have Chris Matthews stating “I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work” we have a pretty good idea of what we’re up against. I wonder if Matthews will scrub Obama’s toilets? 🙂
BTW, I’ve been trying to get on Free Republic all morning and have been unable to connect. Does anybody here know what’s up?
Sounds like typical Chicago politics to me with King Daley as the puppetmaster.
Multiple RPGs.
Guys, don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. Fran Eaton’s original post at Illinois Review was based on several fallacies. Essentially, she didn’t understand the tax records that she looked up and decided to write based on her assumptions rather than facts. Then, when those facts were pointed out to her she kept deleting those comments and ended up shutting down the comment feature altogether. She then complained that those comments were somehow “vile” just because they were pointing out the facts. Here are those facts: 1. Rahm Emanuel pays property taxes. Plain and simple. He paid more than $13,000 in 2007. Based on the cached message you’ve included above, his neighbors pay in the range of $6,000 to $7,000. 13k is more than that… 😉 2. The reason he pays about double is that he and his wife own what’s called a double-lot — two separate properties, one has his house and the other has his yard, that are owned by one owner and have one tax PIN number. (Sorry if that link is now confusing. It was a response from the tax assessor’s office to Ms. Eaton’s questions, which she has now deleted.) That is the source of Ms. Eaton’s confusion. Had she understood the tax records she would’ve figured out that he owns a double-lot and even though the taxes cover the entire double-lot they are “assigned” to the lot with the yard … which makes it appear as if the lot with the house isn’t paying taxes. 3. Rather than admitting she made a mistake and didn’t understand the tax records, Ms. Eaton went nuclear and blamed everyone (but herself) for her errors, lashing out by calling people “vile”, “hit men” and making the bizarre claim that pointing out these corrections was some sort of “intimidation”. The bottom line is that Ms. Eaton authored a wholly inaccurate blogpost about Rahm Emanuel; she then deleted multiple comments pointing out the facts even while leaving the erroneous posts “live” which borders on defamation; finally, when the county informed her of past litigation, she got all huffy and… Read more »
PS: you wrote, “This guy did a lot of research and he deserves credit for it”
Actually, it was a woman. 😉
And she clearly didn’t do understand what little research she did do as she tried to put her gotcha report together. (It’s actually rather simple to look up tax records on Cook County’s website so the research is easy to do.)
Again, the entire thing you’ve got posted here is based on a lie.
Jonn wrote: Thanks, I never tire of people telling me repeatedly that I’m wrong. You’ll notice the title of the post has a question mark.
Jonn,
The original of Ms. Eaton’s post was “Why doesn’t Rahm Emanuel pay property taxes?”
That’s a question also. And also false. Emanuel’s “paid in full” tax record is online, a screen grab is posted here.
And I never said you were wrong. I was letting you know that the content you’ve copied and pasted is all based on a lie which was based on Fran Eaton’s lack of a basic comprehension of the county’s tax records.
It’s your choice on whether you promote that lie or not, especially seeing as how the original author deleted the posts rather than go through the trouble of continuing to defend her mistakes and lies.
If someone wrote a post entitled “Jonn Lilyea eats puppies?” it’d have the same effect as the question mark on your title here…
It’s our First Amendment right to question our leaders and their records — you, me, Fran Eaton … we all do it. But when those questions (and assumptions based on them) turn to the specious and fallacious, other citizens have a responsibility to highlight the truth.
Like I said, it doesn’t matter who you backed for prez, a fib’s a fib.
Jonn wrote: Thanks, Rob, it’s been a full day and I apologize for being short with you. Your comments are appreciated.
No problem, Jonn.
…It’s been a full year, and it ain’t over yet. 😉
I would suggest, however, either significantly updating your post here to reflect the fact that Emanuel does pay his taxes and/or removing the post, lest you get “intimidated” yourself for defamation.
Again, just a suggestion.
