A peek into our future
Some of you may have noticed that I’m almost a single-issue voter. Taxes are my worst enemy – not because I’m rich, but because I’ve reduced the way government affects me down to next-to-nuthin’. The only thing I worry about is how much they force me to pay for the services they never provide me – well, that and worry about my guns being taken from me so I can’t provide my own security against those who the government does provide for and still want more of my stuff.
I watched Obama’s “tax cut for 95% of Americans with income less than $250,000” drop to “families making less than $200,000”, to “under $150,000”. And it’s not even January yet. Today we get news that Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered the City treasury to suspend their $400 rebate checks to property tax payers because the City can’t afford it. And who’s at fault? Those rich fat cats on Wall Street, that’s who;
Wall Street already has taken half a trillion dollars in write-downs.
Financial companies might not pay city or state taxes for three to five years as they struggle with losses, he said. The mayor estimates New York Stock Exchange member firms will have to earn a combined $10 billion a year for several years before the city can resume collecting taxes from them.
Pardon? “Might not pay”? Do you mean that it’s merely a projection of what may happen at some point in the future? And what if they do pay on time (like everyone else in the world has to do)? Is the city of New York going to pay interest to those getting rebate checks? Probably not.
Liberals hate giving money back to the taxpayers because taxpayers then realize how much they really pay. In fact, if I ever came to a position of influence in this country, the first thing I’d do is get rid of witholding and make people write one check on April 15th for the whole amount of their taxes. Same with Social Security – maybe if folks had to struggle to come up with that large amount of money in one whack, they’d realize how much they’re really paying. We’d probably have massive support for a national sales tax alternative after the first year.
But, I guess my whole point is that by January we’re all going to discover who Obama really thinks is rich in this country and that none of us who work and pay taxes are going to get a tax cut…and most of the country will forgive him – like they forgave Clinton for reneging on his 1992 tax cut promise. President Bush promised tax cuts in 2000 and delivered on them. Will President Obama deliver on his promise?

John,
After the 2006 electorial debacle for Republicans, I decided I needed to begin moving assets offshore(think Panama). This has been significantly competed. I am buidling a house in Panama & last month bought a beach condo to live in until the house is done (I figured that it would take a miracle for McCain to win). I don’t plan on contributing to Bambi’s “spread the wealth” programs.
My wife works for a large resort as a pastry chef and got her boss to pay her off the books until we leave. Not legal, but half the bus boys and the dishwashers are illegals. So I think we are pretty muc ready for Obamanation.
Many years ago when I lived in California, Gov Reagan implemented no state tax withholding. He wanted people to know what state government costs by writing one check. It worked to a large extent to hold down spending.
Later,
Sam
