Today’s ObamaCare Changes
From a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, 25 Mar 2014 (emphasis added):
“We have no plans to extend the open enrollment period,” HHS official Julie Bataille said. “In fact, we don’t actually have the statutory authority to extend the open enrollment period in 2014.”
But today the Washington Post says something different (emphasis added):
The Obama administration has decided to give extra time to Americans who say that they are unable to enroll in health plans through the federal insurance marketplace by the March 31 deadline.
Federal officials confirmed Tuesday evening that all consumers who have begun to apply for coverage on HealthCare.gov, but who do not finish by Monday, will have until about mid-April to ask for an extension.
Under the new rules, people will be able to qualify for an extension by checking a blue box on HealthCare.gov to indicate that they tried to enroll before the deadline. This method will rely on an honor system; the government will not try to determine whether the person is telling the truth.
So, let me get this straight. At one point yesterday, apparently the Administration felt that no legal authority existed to extend the ObamaCare signup deadline. But later in the day, such authority apparently had “been found”.
Just where did that authority to extend the ObamaCare signup deadline come from? Did the authority exist all along, and the Administration was just “confused” yesterday when they said it didn’t exist? Is the Administration simply “rolling their own” here – regardless of what the law says? Or is there another plausible explanation?
Further: the Administration says they’re going to depend on people to tell them truthfully whether they “tried to enroll before the deadline”? So, in other words: they’re going to use the “honor system” to determine who gets an extension.
Yeah, that’s going to be really reliable and accurate.
Must be nice to be able to create legal authority where none exists – and to live in a world where no one ever lies.

The Obama team makes things up out of whole cloth every day they are in power, the mid term elections will be an important opportunity to make sure the lame duck aspect of his last two years are as lame as possible.
I said this in another post and it fits here as well, when health care sign-up includes a notice that being an illegal alien is not a hindrance to acquiring healthcare but veterans are being asked to pay more in retirement for their promised benefit something is seriously wrong in Camelot…
VOV Your last paragraph is true but it chaps my ass to the Nth degree! “The honor system.” Yea, tell me well that works out in anything else. Welfare, food stamps, Social Security Disability, ObamaPhones and unfortunately, even within the VA healthcare system. (Reference the number of posers with forged DD214s getting benefits.) Dishonorable people WILL be dishonest. They WILL NOT change. Why are we even offering this program to illegal aliens? However, at our local “District Hospital” as it is called, anyone can show up for treatment, regardless of ability to pay and receive any and all care necessary. It is the hospital we and all others with insurance or any ability to pay avoid like the plague. Why? Because if you go there with an open gash needing stitches, the waiting room is full of Mexicans with 8 kids and they are there because kid number 5 has the sniffles. So you get a sterile towel to wrap on your arm while they treat the colds and flus of all the illegals first then get around to you, bleeding on the floor by then. I hate it, it is wrong and should be stopped. I see these SAME people walk into car dealerships and big box stores for expensive TV and electronics and lease or outright buy new vehicles or electronic merchandise and pull out a mule choker of cash and pay for it. Then they have “nothing”, “no income” down at the hospital and we taxpayers foot the bill! LIARS!!! This doesn’t include the 3 local “La Clicincas” payed for by we state taxpayers which cares for illegals for free. From pregnancy to birth to death and all things in between. I am SO fed up with the free gimmes for illegals and I have to pay for everything I get or have and have all my life. And remember, when Bubba and Thor aren’t violating their cellmates, they are helping you to enroll in Obamacare. All they need is every piece of your PII so they can make sure you are all taken care of.
Oh, I’m sorry for being racist and only mentioning Bubba and Thor. I couldn’t forget Sanchez and Gonzales, too. You know, the two upstanding citizens who want to make a new life for themselves after sneaking into the country illegally. I’m sure they can be completely trusted with your personal information and that of your spouse and children.
Up hear in God’s country, we have not had the pleasure of long lines of illegals waiting for free services. My bitch is the Obummer administration changing the rules to fit whatever hitch the Non-Affordable Care Act faces that hour.

As long as this administration continues to to pretend to enforce the laws (Obamacare, fast and Furious, Immigration, election laws) I guess I can pretend to obey them too.
The numbers must look awful…Jay Carney can’t/won’t give breakdown of: young vs old, how many have paid their premiums, how many signups were those kicked off their plans. The goalpost is just gonna get moved back indefinitely…the bailout of insurance companies for tens of billions courtesy of the taxpayers (53 percenters) is inevitable.
Everytime I see the latest ObamaCare changes, I think of this quote from Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark: “I dunno, I’m making this up as I go.”
Maybe they should adopt that as the official ObamaCare motto. (smile)
