Oregon businessman discovers that ripping off vets is bad for business
Someone sent us a link to a KATU investigation of Tim Leatherby of Leatherby Tools who thought he could make money by ripping off veteran workers, because people like Leatherby sees us as bags of money, not people;
KATU investigated Leatherby and showed how he hired local veterans to do remodeling work at a Salem apartment complex, but did not pay them the wages he promised them. The veterans said he owed them more than $15,000 in wages. He promised them multiple times that he would pay them their wages, but did not.
In the report, the veterans said that Leatherby told them he was working closely with Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber. However, a Kitzhaber spokesperson told KATU that Governor Kitzhaber had never met Leatherby.
So the Oregon Attorney General fined him a hundred grand and took away his business license for the state. I guess it didn’t pay all that well for him.

What fucking scumbag! He got off easy!!!
Agreed. RB- Thanks for sticking up for us at that insane persons blog yesterday.
This is actually more common than you think within multiple realms from employment, school acceptance and areas of social interaction and necessity..
And nine times out of ten, the perpetrator has a yellow ribbon on their vehicle.
Just making an observation.
TSO–concur. I saw those comments he made and I am reminded that lunacy isn’t restricted to one side of the political spectrum or the other, but figured you and the other folks had the situation well in hand.
And while ripping off veterans is particularly egregious, ripping ANYONE off like that should be met with a swift and vicious curb-stomping. Here’s hoping that this little escapade follows him around for a while so he’s not tempted to try it again somewhere else.
I would hope that that fine money was used to pay the employees what they were owed.
Someone contact KATU – “In a related story – Daniel Bernath has done the same thing … only different”.
I can not do it.
I am buried in SB48 activities!
@TSO, no problem…
@6 Master Chief, the info on Bernath has been sent to Ian Parker, Reporter/Producer at KATU Portland.
@6 Master Chief. I don’t know what an SB48 is but good luck with it sir. Proud to have people like you working in our government.
Did the state take part of that 100 grand and pay the vets what they were owed?
Super Bowl 48
So, the state fines him $100K, suspends $98K, and the guys who got screwed for services rendered don’t get a thing?
I wouldn’t be surprised, NOBODY does chickenshit fuckovers like Government!
What insane blog? Please provide a link.
For as nutty as Portland and Eugene make this state seem, it is VERY pro-veteran (and gun, but that’s another story). This guy stuck his johnson in a mulcher by screwing over vets and then lying about it. The state’s response finds me very pleasantly unsurprised.
Bobo, wouldn’t complying with BOLI mean paying what he promised? If not, I may have to revise my previous comment
People get murdered for less than that.
Just sayin’, Scumbag. You’re lucky you fucked over the nice vets.
Is “Leatherby” the same as “Leatherman”, or is it a knockoff?
Timothy Leatherman is the honcho of Leatherman tools, so I have to wonder if Leatherby = Leatherman.
If so, it is very disappointing news.
He Is The Same Fucking Asshole
Sounds a lot like Phil Monkress.
To answer CDR_D…Tim Leatherman is NOT the Sam as Tim Leatherby…whew! Totally different men.
Yes, Tim got off easy with the $100K fine and his biz license taken away. But with leatherby’s history, he will just pick up and go elsewhere to ripoff others. And chances are, he won’t pay his fine here!
He appears to also get his victims from dating cites, so be careful ladies! Apparently he gets money from them or their friends …does “plumbing” for them and runs out on the job. Turns out the plumbing work he does is pretty bad as you can see by this:

I found this on Craigslist.
