Senate: Benghazi attack was preventable

| January 15, 2014

The Washington Post reports that the Senate released a report which states that the attack on the Benghazi consulate was preventable. They blame the State Department, mainly;

The [bipartisan Senate Intelligence] committee determined that the U.S. military command in Africa didn’t know about the CIA annex and that the Pentagon didn’t have the resources in place to defend the diplomatic compound in an emergency.

“The attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya — to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets — and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission,” the panel said in a statement.

The report also notes, chillingly, that the FBI’s investigation into the attacks has been hampered inside Libya, and that 15 people “supporting the investigation or otherwise helpful to the United States” have since been killed in Benghazi. The report says it is unclear whether those killings were related to the investigation.

Funny how the Post is suddenly interested in the Benghazi attack when they spent the first weeks leading up to the election ignoring the facts of the story.

The report says that on Sept. 18, 2012, the “FBI and CIA reviewed the closed circuit television video from the Mission facility that showed there were no protests prior to the attacks.”

But it took six more days for intelligence officials to revise their chronology of events and say that “there were no demonstrations or protests” at the diplomatic compound “prior to the attacks.”

I hope the Senate Committee cleared their report with the editorial board of the New York Times who seem to be the experts on the story.

Thanks to Paul for the link.

Two years and no heads.

Finally some more truth comes out. Who else here knew it was preventable? I did. I hope this f@cks up Hillary big time for 2016 and Kerry as well if he even has a notion of running. This is yet another example of our lack of leadership in Washington, taking care of Americans, anywhere. The surprise to me is that liberal Democrats still believe the government will take care of them. If they don’t know that Obama and crew will sell them out in a heartbeat for their own convenience and ass covering, they have a rude awakening coming.

Capt Bob

The claim that they didn’t have enough information to send in a relief force is pure bull shit. I was an infantryman in Viet Nam and was sent several times to help another unit that was in over its head. All we needed to know was that a brother was in trouble and where. We figured out the rest when we got there.

Twist

Sparks: It won’t hurt Hilary. The Liberals will just claim that it was Republican budget cuts that were to blame.

@3 You’re right. I forget that everything wrong in government is still the fault of the economic policies of the Reagan-Bush administrations.

Some more candidates for Hillary’s Enemies list. To which I say

Do they give out certificates.

Recall that when that when this terrorist attack occurred, The Emperor was weeks away from his second annointing. It was his ass and only his ass that he was concerned about. Whatever bullshit his brain trust could come up with to stall the Benghazi impact was all The Emperor was interested in. To this moment we don’t have a timeline on his response, other than it is presumed he either just rolled over in bed or was never awakened. In any event, the important thing was the campaign and his fundraiser in Las Vegas. In his pep rally there on 12 September, he was upset. No, I’m just kidding. It was a freakin’ pep rally. He was jovial. He spent the first few minutes yucking it up, responding to a shouted “We love you” with an “I love you too.” Oh, it was great fun! He spent roughly two minutes talking about the attack and promised, of course, to bring the killers to justice. Oh, and then he moved on to talk about Nevada as a battleground state (who knew?) and the Republicans and blah, blah, blah. A few days later, Susan Rice, well practiced in the White House bullshit story (which, today, we now know they knew was bullshit, said this in answer to a Jake Tapper question on ABC’s “This Week”: “Well, Jake, first of all, it’s important to know that there’s an FBI investigation that has begun and will take some time to be completed. That will tell us with certainty what transpired. But our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous — not a premeditated — response to what had transpired in Cairo. In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest that was undertaken in reaction to this very offensive video that was disseminated. We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to — or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that… Read more »

If Congress had a hair on its collective ass, articles of impeacment would be drawn up–today! but we have that idiot John “Kleenex” Bonehead as speaker who held the WH line on Benghazi, permitting no committee with the power to subpoena those who needed to be placed under oath LONG AGO. The phuker. What we are learning today comes from the Senate. Why? I haven’t figured that out yet. One thing I do know is that it has nothing to do with truth and justice.

The sad thing to me is that the liberals will still claim that there is nothing to see here, just move along. When in fact, there are so many unanswered questions.

The newest version of events is that Ambassador Stevens played a part in his own death because he knew it was dangerous and went out anyway. I have heard that several times recently so it must be becoming a liberal talking point. Anything to provide top cover to Hillary in 2016.

There will not be an investigation of Benghazi worthy of the name until after the election. The Dems and the needle dick press will protect their show ponies at all cost.

We have got to get the Senate back if we are going to have any reasonable chance of stopping the Democrats from stonewalling. This investigation report, while nice, is just a drop in the bucket. Nobody is going to be held accountable for a damn thing.

Is anyone here or anyone with half a brain surprized?

2/17 Air Cav

@10. No, but too few people don’t have at least half a brain: 62,611,250 is a good strating point. And who says one can’t maintain anger? This is pissing me off like it was Sept 2012 again. Oh yeah, it was that video. It was spontaneous. It was just some locals taking their lead from Cairo. Rice was trained like the dog that she is. And where is she now? SHE IS THE US NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR!

Old Trooper

“the Senate released a report which states that the attack on the Benghazi consulate was preventable”

No shit.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Air Cav … we should all be pissed. So we are now learning what we already knew on Sept 11, 2012

Looks like former presidential hopeful Hillary, Mr. Cooly Barry Obama himself and the Smug Silver Spoon Rice have some splainin’ to do.

The report is just the beginning!

rb325th

But the New York Times said it wasn’t Al Queda related, that it was just like Hillary and Obama said. It was all about a video ya know… Silly Senate.

Sorry, horse has already escaped the burning barn. Too late to shut the barn doors. House isn’t on fire just yet, though.

A Proud Infidel

I’m still betting that the DNC Pravda media will do all they can to bury this and other things so they can pimp the Hildebeast for President. We need to keep hammering on this!

Grimmy

The lie about it being just a demonstration that got out of control, and the blame on that ultra obscure vid came out too fast and too broadband and too heavily re-enforced by repetition, to have been developed during or immediately after the attack.

2/17 Air Cav

@16. Big Media is doing its part. What’s this, day 6 or 7 with their focus on an intentional backup on the GW bridge? I mean, who gives a shit?

RM3(SS)

I still remember the speech Obozo gave where he called the video maker “kind of a (pause for effect) shadowy figure” and I wondered if he was talking about himself.

The report is here

That version is mostly images and redacted but not too badly.

Please note: The first half is written by “the majority” — in other words by the Democratic committee members. On the back is a section written by the minority members and a final section written by Susan Collins.

I read it all and that was useful. The minority and Collins sections point out some problems that the majority section glossed over. After reading the minority sections, I think that we need to hear from Kennedy and Lamb. General Ham gets off pretty east but General Dempsey gets what he deserves.

…and the Bush administration knew about the 9/11 planners too, and did nothing to stop them. What does this prove? That politicians are liars. Almost all of them. And those at the national/international level are the worst of the lot.

MGySgtRet

@22
What fucking evidence do you have that the Bush Administration knew that Islamic terrorists were going to hijack airliners and fly them into buildings in the U.S. Because I have looked at a lot of material and NONE of it has ever come to that conclusion. Even the most Bush hating liberal does not believe that President Bush allowed terrorists to deliberately attack this country (well some probably do but they are a minority).

Here’s another news story related to Benghazi.

I wonder if ANY of them know what they’re talking about.
