Draft dodger Harry Reid blocks attempt to restore vet pension COLA cuts
Compare and contrast this with the previous blog post I wrote about Democrats worried about Obama’s proposal to cut the rate of growth of Social Security pensions. From the Washington Free Beacon;
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) “filled the amendment tree” on Thursday, ending debate and blocking any Republican amendments to a bill to extend unemployment insurance (UI) benefits.
Among them was Ayotte’s measure, which would repeal cuts to military pensions by ending a loophole in the tax code that allows illegal immigrants to receive the Additional Child Tax Credit. Her attempt to get a vote failed 42-54, with only one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), voting with Republicans.
“It’s a sad day when a common sense amendment to responsibly pay for legislation that helps struggling Americans, repeals unfair military retirement benefits and reduces the deficit can’t even get a vote in the Senate,” Ayotte said in a statement.
[…]
Ayotte offered her plan, the “Keeping Our Promise to Our Military Heroes Act’’ (S. 1869), as an amendment to the UI bill. The measure would require a Social Security number in order for an individual to receive the Additional Child Tax Credit. Ayotte’s office said the bill would save approximately $20 billion over 10 years.
So can we expect Dianne Feinstein to stick up for veterans in the Senate? This is me not holding my breath.
By the way, Harry Reid is a draft dodger using the Left’s own definition as applied to Dick Cheney, since Reid and Chaney both spent their draftable years going to college.
Category: Congress sucks
“Let us not go down that partisan route,” Boxer said. “Let us support our leader.”
You see, that’s the way this stuff works. It’s about, as Boxer says, supporting “our leader.” He knows best. There is no need for anyone to exercise independent thought. Each of the chosen was elected to follow and support THEIR leader. So, my question is, why have 100 senators when one will do?
We have a leader in Washington?
Lord forgive me, but really wish that SOB would just stroke out already. I despise the shadow he casts on the ground.
The use of the term “draft dodger” by the left proves their collective schizophrenia. Sometimes they use it as a pejorative, while at other times it is a badge of honor. Probably some nuance in there somewhere that this conservative is not capable of understanding.
Harry Reid… Barbara Boxer… waste of good oxygen.
The Democrats are not going to let the Republicans unfuck themselves during an election year. Republicans who voted for the pension reduction will rightfully lose votes. Don’t expect any traction on this issue until after the elections.
I would love to ask Boxer, Reid, or any of their ilk in Congress face-to-face what it feels like to sell their souls for power and ores, but hey, they have neither souls or a conscience!
Well going to college I don’t think is ‘dodging’.
Leaving the country is dodging. Going to college I thought you were ‘excempt’. During that period in time, I think the majority of people didn’t want to go to war. Getting ‘forced’ by a draft wouldn’t sit well today at ALL. But our war is more personal than Vietnam was. At any rate,
I don’t think he dodged, I think he was fortunate to have financial ability to go to college. To the Canadians who fled, naw, screw you guys.
Prince Reid was definitely ripe for the picking in 2010, but hey, the GOP knows how to nominate boobs for Senate candidates. Now Hairy is in danger of getting knocked off his perch as Majority Leader in about 11 months, but he’s a survivor, the media will cover for him, & this is the R’pubs we’re talking about.
Dev–yeah, the GOP hasn’t failed to disappoint me for about a decade now. They’ve completely lost their balls.
And I keep writing Senator Ayotte, telling her to keep up the good fight. That and having met her once, she’s pretty easy on the eyes. And TALL.
Tell harry reid to tax the rich or cut defense spending to get the money. Haliburton and the coke brothers have plenty of ilgotten money just to name two crooks.
I’ll bet VWP is well acquainted with the coke brothers. It would explain a lot.
@VWPunked
Which rest home are you in that provides access to a keyboard?
Bedwetter asshat.
@3 – I hate to correct you, but since he is one of the undead, Harry Reid casts no shadow. That’s also how he can look in the mirror since he has no reflection.
Oh, also: VWPussy, isn’t there a dick you can be eating somewhere? Beat it. Can’t you see grownups are talking?
@14 – My bad. Where is Buffy when you need her?
It’s actually easy to understand: If you are a Democrat, if you were drafted you were a war hero, even if you were just Joe Snuffy or just gamed the system to get in and get out (CHOn Kerry, he says clearing his throat. If you stayed in college, you were an intellectual, and if you took active steps like fleeing the country or setting bombs off you were a political warrior, freedom fighter, or followed your conscience. If you were a Republican, in the same order, you were a baby-killer, or in the latter cases, draft-dodging yellow-bellied coward. National Guard counts as college.
I’m from Nevada and I have no clue how this guy continues to get elected. I don’t know a single person that’s ever voted for him…
