Thursday feel good story
Today’s feel good story comes from Virginia where 76-year-old former paratrooper, Leon Winder, who called 911 when he heard noises in his house. The police searched the premises but found nothing. Leon kept looking though;
It was shortly after that, while officers searched the area, that Winder, a former Army Airborne soldier, went into his barbershop attached to his home.
“I saw a coat on the floor and I looked to pick the coat up. I looked to my left to get the coat up and the guy was standing in the closet,” Winder recalled.
Winder said fired twice and hit the man in the arm.
“He didn’t say nothing. I was firing on him he couldn’t say nothing,” he said.
That’s when the suspect, identified by police as 37-year-old John Buck Fields, ran out and was caught by police.
All the way, Leon!
Chief Tango sends us links to two more feel good stories. The first is from Toledo where Antione Garret heard Randy Estrada breaking into his house, so Garret went to confront the burglar;
Garret fired his handgun several times, until Estrada climbed back out the window and ran away.
A short time later, Estrada called 911 to report that he had been shot and was taken to a Toledo hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive his injuries.
“If someone’s breaking into your house and you fear for your safety, you have the right to defend yourself and your family. And in this case, that’s what we believe Mr. Garret has done,” said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

The next story comes from the mean streets of Chicago where 25-year-old Demarcus Brandon decided that he needed a new cell phone so he went to the neighborhood cell phone store and tried to rob the place. The clerk, however had a different goal in mind and he killed young Brandon dead right there.
Police said there was an exchange of gunfire between Brandon and the clerk, though it’s not clear who shot first.
Brandon was paroled from the Shawnee Correctional Center this summer, where he had been serving concurrent 3-year and 13-year sentences, according to Illinois Department of Corrections and Cook County Court records.
The 13-year sentence stemmed from an incident in Chicago in which Brandon was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, gun possession, aggravated fleeing from police, and having either a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches or shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches.
Another perp broke his ankle while he was scattin’ out of the AO.

lol @ video new report.
Did they get some bum off the street to read off a prompter?
If Obama had a son.
Re: Demarcus Brandon, aren’t you glad to see gun laws keeping weapons out of the hands of dangerous criminals? Sounds like a round of thanks to the clerk are in order for stopping Brandon before he added “murder” to his already-substantial rap sheet.
Both these stories bespeak systemic problems. The Chicago case bad guy had two separate sentences, one of 13 years and the other three. They ran concurrently—which they most certainly did not have to. He got credit for 20 months time served and went to prison in 2008. His projected parole date was in 2016 but he was released this past summer. He was a violent criminal and I have no doubt that he committed other crimes since his release, prior to the one that killed him. You see the problem. No more to be said.
The second story speaks to the LE issue. Leon called 911, police arrived, conducted a search, but evidently didn’t check the barbershop attached to Leon’s house. That’s where the bad guy was hiding when he was found—not by police but by Leon. Again, no more to be said,
Bummer for Demarcus Brandon. He’ll miss Christmas this year! And ever year from now own. But I am sure his “moms” will say he was a good boy and trying hard to change his life. He just needed a phone for job contacts and such. POS-Merry Christmas.
@3 Yea 2/17, those anti-gun laws in Chicago are working out well don’t you think. What is it about, “if you outlaw guns, only outlaws…”
So 25 yr old Mr. Branden was serving concurrent 3 and 13yr sentences? He was either 15 when he committed the crimes or he was let out after committing several felonies.
Right there is the problem, however, that problem appears to have been solved
I have to say, I like reading the “today’s feel good story” because it is a place I can read about real US citizens using their real guns in positive ways – to stop crime – not for hunting or target practice. Actually I will go larger, these people are not stopping “a crime” the untold story is they are stopping a crime spree. These repeat offenders have preyed on the citizens of this area for months repeatedly and instead of the criminal justice system protecting they are allowing this to happen to good people. I often wonder if the bleeding heart’s ever stop to think – or read – such stories and realize by releasing instead of keeping offenders imprisoned they are effectively promoting execution (Death penalty) by US citizens – while protecting themselves – to shoot and kill the released criminal. I wonder if they realize how effectively they have negated all the civil rights they claim criminals are afforded by releasing repeat offenders to an armed citizenry.
@4 He didn’t miss Xmas — his came early. He is currently standing in front of “the reason for the season” and trying to explain why he arrived early.
