Attack on Yakota?
Stars & Stripes reports that someone may or may not have fired on Yokota Air Base in Japan with homemade mortars or something last night.
Residents near the base, which serves as headquarters for U.S. Forces Japan, reported explosions at about 11.30 p.m., according to a Tokyo Metropolitan Police spokesman.
Police found two metal pipes, lead wire and a battery in an empty lot about 350 meters east of the base. Partly buried, the pipes pointed toward the base, said a spokesman for Tachikawa Police, which initially responded to the calls.
Yokota spokesman Capt. Ray Geoffroy confirmed the discovery of improvised launching devices near the base but said there are no reports of injuries or damage.
NBC, in a link sent to us by Pinto Nag, reports that it may have been left-wing activists, whatever that means;
National broadcaster NHK reported that left-wing activists were suspected to be behind the attack. NBC News was unable to independently confirm the report.
Similar incidents targeted Yokota air base in Oct. 2009 and July 2007. No injuries were reported during either attack.
I guess left-wing Japanese terrorists are just nicer than regular terrorists. I suspect that if they ever cause any casualties, it will be their own people and somehow it will the fault of the US.

Based on the effectiveness of their “attacks”, maybe next time they’re going to try something REALLY dangerous, like Mentos and Diet Coke?
Is the base on full alert? Maybe it was a diversion and the leftist terrorists are actually tunneling in ftom the other side. Or were they merely testing reponse and response time? Yeah, I’d have the birds warm and ready right now, I would.
We used to roll our eyes at “towel-headed camel-jockies” too. Anybody with a political agenda, building any kind of bomb, anywhere in this day and age, deserves to be filed and tracked for future reference. We can’t afford to be dismissive about this kind of activity anymore.
P-Nag–these guys have rarely been violent (and not much since the 1980’s.) Given the Japanese police and their tendency to crack down hard on dumbshits like this, chances are the people who did this 1–will be caught quickly, 2–will get the crap kicked out of them, 3–are thanking their lucky stars nobody got hurt, or else they’d REALLY get jacked up.
