Shinwari: Wheels Down on US Soil
Jonn’s written multiple times (here, here, and here) about Janis Shinwari, the Afghan interpreter who saved the life of a US soldier and later applied for a US visa under a special program. Shinwari initially got a visa, sold most of his belongings and prepared to move his family to the US – then was notified that his visa had been “frozen” without explanation.
Turns out the story has a happy ending. A few hours after the US government shutdown ended, his visa was reinstated. He and his family landed in the DC area earlier today.
Kudos to Matt Zellar – the former MI officer whose life Shinwari saved – for bulldogging this one on Change.org. I’m guessing Shinwari would still be in limbo (or worse) if not for Zellar’s efforts.
The Army Times has more details. IMO it’s worth taking the 5 min to read their article.

For people that risked life and limb to save an American this should have been a no-brainer. That Zellar had to bulldog anyone is a damn shame. Welcome to America Shinwari family, your visa was hard earned and no doubt deserved.
About time, man does everything this administration touch have to turn to sh1t or do they actually go out of their way to make sure it ends badly?
For a guy who was the supposed foreign policy messiah his administration only seems to stutter at every step. So thanks to the Obama Afghanistan and Iraq are now middle eastern model democracies and every citizen in those nations will soon be driving Chevy Volts all over the streets….oh wait, that’s not it thanks to Obama both nations are devolving back into the abyss and will resume their murderous ways as state sanctioned terror sanctuaries shortly after we end our presence there…well done, bravo Mr. President nice to see your main concern is f@cking Americans out of their health care and leaving foreign allies to die in abject misery….I love hearing liberals talk about his legacy….what legacy? What did I miss in the last 5 years that would generate any kind of legacy other than that of utter ineffective leadership and zero recovery?
Well … that’s two now, including the terp Dakota Meyer was trying to get brought here, right?
And, what Old Tanker and VOV said … times two.
This nonsense about jerking around the families of our risk-taking allies has been a feature of the State Department going back at least to the Bush administration in Iraq. I do not recall any names surfacing.
Not really a huge fan of the Truman Projects underlying mission.
