DC police help Feinstein, hinder Republicans in gun debate
Emily Miller at the Washington Times writes today about her investigation about how Senator Dianne Feinstein got semi-automatic scary black rifles into a Senate hearing on gun control legislation earlier this year. From Miller’s FOIA;
Lobbyist Chuck DeWitt emailed Chief Lanier on Christmas Eve last year. “Sen. Feinstein has asked us to bring examples of assault weapons used in the worst incidents over the past few years.” The CEO of the Lafayette Group told the chief that the guns would be put on display at a media event and asked, “Could you put me in touch with your person who would have any of these weapons?”
Chief Lanier’s response was not turned over.
The police department got her the weapons and recommended that she get those scary black rifles, which are illegal in the District, zip-tied to a display board so that the police department could deny charges that Feinstein actually took possession of the rifles, refering to the David Gregory dust-up when the reporter had a restricted magazine in the District.
The following week, Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham asked the MPD for the same consideration;
A week after Mrs. Feinstein’s publicity stunt, Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina were refused permission to bring a hunting rifle and an AR-style rifle to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Mrs. Feinstein’s “assault weapon” ban.
The Republican senators sent a letter of complaint to committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, but were still forced to use just a photo of a standard wooden hunting rifle with a plastic pistol grip at the hearing in order to demonstrate that simply adding the ergonomic feature transformed the gun into one that would be illegal under her ban.
Mrs. Feinstein’s staff gloated: “I was gratified to hear Sens. Cruz and Graham complaining that getting weapons into their hearing today was ‘unworkable,’”
I’m beginning to believe that the deck is being stacked against us pro-Second Amendment folks.

The deck is stacked against any pro-freedom group in dealing with the government. Government always seeks to increase its power which is why the founders wisely sought to restrain it, but we have let those restraints go by the wayside long, long ago. Molon Labe is the only recourse for those of us who are serious about retaining our rights.
@1 is right–the deck is stacked against anyone who doesn’t drink the KoolAid. Witness WWII veterans being denied access to the WWII memorial, but the leftards pushing for amnesty for illegals get free run of the place.
I’m sure we can come up with a MFT more examples.
And to think I had a friend who took issue with me referring to Chief Lanier as a “Token hire.”
Most big city police chiefs are political appointees nowadays, which mean they serve at the mercy of big city mayors who seem to be predominately Democrat. I woudln’t hold my breath waiting for fairness.
Comrades in Arms:
I ain’t no lawyer, nor do I have much formal book learnin’,
BUT – – – ,
According to Section 6 in Article I of our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America, which each and every single one of our elected and/or appointed public officials swore a solemn oath to uphold, defend, and enforce, members of the United States Senate and/or United States House of Representatives don’t need police permission to bring firearms into the United States Capitol.
These things only happen because the various entities are either ignorant of the Constitution, or they’re deliberately ignoring it, in which case, they should be immediately subjected to impeachment, if congressmen, or arrest and prosecution, if police officer(s).
Regardless of whether we are referring to the Republican Party or the Democrat Party, I would add that the current government shutdown, as well as almost any other current issue, are examples of ALL political and/or bureaucratic entities in Washington, D.C. perpetually ignoring and/or outright violating of our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America.
Thank you.

@4, true, it’s a shame we can’t elect the police chiefs in (most) major cities like we do our county sheriffs. The fact that (most?) every county sheriff in Colorado stood on the steps of the state capital in opposition to their stupidity show who those sheriffs really serve, the people that elected them.
Cruz and Paul oould have a compatriot in the House put in an amendment defunding DC’s various police departments, putting the city under the US Marshal Service.
DC and Lanier aren’t authorized, under any law, to defy or deny members of Congress.
They can stack the deck. They can pass all the laws they want. Criminals will still misuse guns that they are prohibited from even touching. I will take my guns to the grave if required. And there are surly going to be a lot of new graves around here if they come to take mine.
@ #7 DaveO: Their not? Didn’t know that….And I’m quite embarrassed to say, I’ve been negligent in re-reading the US Constitution either. Thanks, Robert. Learn or relearn something new every day.
It sounds like just another day in the Great Whorehouse on the Potomac!
It’s not just the scary black rifle thing; Feinstein seems to have a real trifecta of bad juju going on lately.
In the first place, she’s chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and up to her ears in letting the NSA indulge in domestic spying. Say adios to the Fourth Amendment.
And if you want to complain about it, her answer is to back legislation to determine who is, and who is not, a journalist. With a plausible assumption being that those on the approved list are going to be ones who agree with her. Bye-bye, First Amendment. It was nice knowing you.
And with the above two options for redress off the table, we have her telling the Second Amendment to bend over and grease up with the scary black rifle thing.
Anybody else notice a pattern here?
