US begins delivering aid to Syrian rebels

| September 12, 2013

The Washington Post reports that military aid has begun arriving in Syria for the rebels there from the US, you know, because we have money to throw away to help arm the people we’re probably going to end up fighting in another couple of years.

The arms shipments, which are limited to light weapons and other munitions that can be tracked, began arriving in Syria at a moment of heightened tensions over threats by President Obama to order missile strikes to punish the regime of Bashar al-Assad for his alleged use of chemical weapons in a deadly attack near Damascus last month.

The arms are being delivered as the United States is also shipping new types of nonlethal gear to rebels. That aid includes vehicles, sophisticated communications equipment and advanced combat medical kits.

Light weapons and ammunition “that can be tracked”. Yeah, because this administration has such a good record of tracking weapons. Their plan to recover illegal arms transfers at crime scenes in Mexico has worked flawlessly. So, are they going to set up an arms room scenario wherein the rebels present a card along with an ID that proves they’re not jihadists and turn their weapon back in every night after they clean it? I’m just wondering because the article makes the process sound very reassuring, but, ya know, sometimes Joe Snuffy loses his weapon under these tightly controlled conditions, so I don’t know how the Washington Post can tell us that this system can be tracked, short of putting GPS chips in every weapon, and even then they’ll lose actual control of the weapon even though they might know where it is.

I just hope they all kill each other as quickly as possible so we can move on to another crisis because I’m growing weary of this one.

Geez, I thought they were going to send food and medical supplies. My mistake. There is no money for the US military but the administration is supplying arms and ammo to these people.

So now what? Can we expect to see some of these things turning up in Mexico or Afghanistan?

Sure. Why not? I’ve heard of stranger things.

I’m guessing this isn’t a FedEx or UPS delivery and that we are talking thousands of weapons. How exactly does one ship such a load into Syria undetected? And by what claim of right are we taking this action? I really have a hard time following this mess, even with a scorecard.

The link below may be from the Military Times (yeah, I know what you’re thinking), but they have the results of a survey showing military personnel oppose military action against Syria by a 3 to 1 margin:

I know it may be a “captain obvious” thing to post, but it may be good for one’s friends or family not connected to the military to see this. Oh, and the part at the end about the fatbody is rather interesting too…

Did anyone seriously expect any other outcome? They announced a few weeks ago that there were operators in place for something. And arming the enemies of this country is exactly what they have been doing all over the ME.

What would be unexpected, at this point, is for the other branches of government to do THEIR jobs by putting an end to this insanity.

I’m sure the Syrian Christians are just jumping for joy. And I hope someone in the administration thought to ask Putin about this first. We LOSE weapons a stone’s throw from our border and we are supposed to be able to track weapons in Syria? I swear that obama’s foreign policy is to cause global havoc, revellion, and revolution. It’s not enough that he and his bilateral, if not bisexual, cronies are ruining the USA. They have to run an export business too.

Twist

B-b-b-b-b-ut there will be no boots on the ground. I guess we sent these by remote control.

Combat Historian

I’m hoping that the ammo we are shipping to the jihadis have been tricked out with rounds that explode in the rifle when chambered, like what CIA/MACV-SOG did with commie ammo planted in NVA caches during Vietnam; but since obamao is actually genuinely doing this on the level to help our enemies, that sure as hell ain’t gonna happen…

BWB

It’s okay. Obama, McCain and company swear the people we’re arming are “moderates.”

Just when I thought they couldn’t go any more ri-tard, they hit the switch and kick in the warp drive of stupid.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@8 Muslim moderates are the ones who only kill children who deserve it right? Like the ones who dare to go school or question their little religious books….

There are no moderates and no innocents only those who’ve not yet taken up arms…

Let me see if I understand this…12 years ago, a bunch of jihadists hijacked four American airliners and flew them into the the WTC and Pentagon. Now we’re ARMING the same group of jihadists. Thank YOU, Mr. President, for rendering my and my Soldiers sacrifices irrelevant.

Now this is OUTF*&%$#@ Standing. I get told my bosses wont be on for next year. But we can send these cockholsters millions in support when we cant even take care of our own people.

What part of Stay the hell out of this cock fight dont you under stand.

This admin is all collage “edumicated” – the Ivory Tower dont work in the real world DUDE.

Meanwhile, my reserve unit has M16A1s still in the armory, and I haven’t received TA50 for over a year… Nice.

Can’t say treason without “aid and comfort” to a KNOWN enemy…Rebels, moderates, my a$$, they are flat out Al quada and said as much and it seems it is only their side who are hacking off heads and murdering Christians…and our Prez supports em?? WTF? Are we not still battling this bunch in the ‘Stan? Are they not still killing our bros and sis’s???? I don’t see a damn bit of good on this shit move except a bunch of asshats are making Saudi dollars off the blood of good Americans…Shit pisses me off beyond reproach as some of those weaopons will find their way to the ‘Stan, you watch and see….

The comments dissing bodaprez used to get nastier by the week.

Now they get nastier by the day.

Still trying to muster something resembling a civilized response to this insanity. None to be found. Anywhere.

So how does this make sense to anyone? And why am I paying one dime for any of it??

Supplying arms to the enemy and forcing us to pay for it is so far beyond rational thought that stringing together coherent sentences is somewhere between difficult and impossible. Lying is one thing. Extracting from us the means for our own demise is suicidal if we willingly participate.

It just gets stupider and stupider.

Ex-PH2

OWB, if you try to rationalize it, your hair will stand out like a porcupine’s quills and your head will probably explode at the speed of light.

I try to look at this kind of thing as another example of pure waste of my tax money, and (I hope) another nail in THAT coffin, like those $100 million vacations with the family.

I just can’t believe our government is so broke we are forcing government employees into unpaid furloughs, but we can afford to ship weapons to people in other countries?!? And just like Jonn said, I suspect it’ll be a repeat of when we armed the Taliban for their fight against the Russians….we’ll end up fighting these Syrian rebels somewhere down the line. Wtf?!

OWB

There simply IS no rationalization for arming the very people who are shooting and killing our own people a few miles away. There still would be no justification for it even if we had no forces nearby, but as it is, this is beyond insanity.

There is an article with photos in the Daily Mail, sent out by a photojournalist who recorded four beheadings of Assad sympathizers by Syrian rebels. He made his horror at this sickening spectacle quite plain, but said that he felt he had to keep his mouth shut and get the story out. I can understand that, especially when he also said that Assad’s sympathizers are engaging in equally brutal group massacres, of groups of women and children. He described it as something you read about in history books, like a scene from the Dark Ages, where the enemy’s head is held up and stuck on a pike at the front gate.

If any of the stupid f@$#@!ks in the administration or Congress think that these things will NOT happen to any of our people if someone is stupid enough to send our troops there, those dumb f!$@:ks should be dragged over their by their short hairs and made to witness the brutalities by both sides in that fight. We have no business getting involved in that godawful mess, period.

Even Putin has not suggested sending in Russian troops.

I can see little to no difference between Syria’s current state and what went on in Cambodia under Pol Pot.
