Hasan and Manning court martial news

| August 6, 2013

Since we have two shit bags on trial today, I thought I’d combine the news. First on Hasan. He opened his trial with this statement, according to NBC;

“The evidence will clearly show that I am the shooter,” Hasan, an American-born Muslim accused of killing 13 soldiers and wounding 32 others on Nov. 5, 2009, told jurors in a less than two-minute-long opening statement, according to The Associated Press.

However, he added: “Witnesses will testify that war is an ugly thing. Death, destruction and devastation are felt from both sides, from friend and foe. Evidence from this trial will only show one side. I was on the wrong side, but I switched sides,” reported Reuters.

Well, this shouldn’t take long.

On Breanna Manning, ABC is saying that they heard a rumor that Colonel Denise Lind, the judge has combined some of the charges against him and reduced his maximum possible sentence to 90 years;

A military judge has reduced Army Pfc. Bradley Manning’s maximum possible sentence in the WikiLeaks case to 90 years in prison.

Manning had faced up to 136 years in prison after he was convicted of charges related to his disclosure of classified information to the anti-secrecy website. But the judge, Army Col. Denise Lind, found during his sentencing hearing Tuesday that a number of the charges refer to the same actions and therefore were duplicative for sentencing purposes.

But that rumor comes from those doinks at the Bradley Manning Defense network, so I’m not sure how reliable it is.

Meanwhile the Huffington Post reports that 1500 morons have signed a petition volunteering to serve out Breanna’s sentence for her.

So many have signed the petition at this point, Zeese noted, that if each took an equal part of Manning’s potential maximum sentence they would serve less than a month.

“There’s a lot of safety in numbers,” he said. “We obviously recognize that the military is unlikely to let us serve his sentence, but the people who are signing up are really committed, so it’s up to them whether this is more a symbol than a reality. From our perspective we are really offering to do this.”

I love the thought of 1500 morons being off the street for few weeks, but I doubt any of them could last a day or two, so the Army ought to go and round up the volunteers and let them collectively serve five years or so of Manning’s sentence just for the entertainment value. It could be like a reality show or something. 1500 of them would fill up a couple of seasons with chuckles and belly laughs while the hippies deal with the consequences of their symbolism.

We all know that’s not going to happen, so it was just another tactic by bed-wetters to get attention and say they are doing something.
I wonder what the same clowns would say if they were told they COULD serve part of his sentence, but it would be 20 years no parole in Gitmo. They could pick it by lottery.
Of course Brianna would be serving the other 70 years at the same time.

I’m actually good with that, as long as Manning gets the maximum sentence and they live long enough to experience every single day of those 90 years.

If the petition signers take their own food and and one change of clothes with them, so they aren’t living on my tax dollar, I have no problem with each of them spending time in jail. Period.

The Terrorist bastard’s opening statement isn’t evidence but it certainly portends what is to come from him: His sworn testimony that he intentionally and with malicious aforethought committed murder. We know why he did it and he’ll throw that in for good measure, under oath, too. As for Breanna’s Babies, they should not volunteer the impossible but, instead, do something they can accomplish. A mass hunger strike, beginning on her sentencing date and lasting until her release date or death, which is later. Yeah, that would be meaningful.

I wish they would take four of them and give them a year of his time each but he has to be there to so it comes off the end of his sentence. They will meet such lovely, welcoming people there in Leavenworth!

Hasan’s opening statement will be his downfall. What do they say about fools who represent themselves? If I were a juror and heard that statement I would be wanting to send a note to the judge and ask, “can we start deliberations now?”.

Hondo

Geez, Jonn – do you have a clue how much brie and wine for 1500 people 3x a day for 5 years costs? The tools volunteering to serve time for Manning would demand that or they’d complain they were getting “cruel and unusual punishment”!

Old Trooper

That’s all it is, in the Manning thing; symbolism. They have no idea what “hard labor” at a military prison entails. Well, they “think” they know from watching movies, but I doubt they would be so enthusiastic once reality set in.

NavCWORet

Yeah, I don’t thing the Manning sentence standers realize they will be in a military, not civilian prison. Completely different atmosphere.

If I remember correctly, a courts martial conviction is the same as a federal conviction and the big house in Kansas if a federal facility. If so then there is no parole or early release.

Hassan vs. Manning:

Let’s see … on Hassan: “Alex, I will take DEATH PENALTY for $1,000.00.”

On Manning: “Alex, I will take INSTITUTIONALIZED RAPE OF SMALL STATURED MALES IN FEDERAL AND/OR MILITARY PRISONS for $1,000.00.”

Green Thumb

Put them in the same cell so Hasan can give his Islamic manliness to manning on a daily basis.

I see this as a win-win.

@8 – I’d say the enthusiasm they had for serving Brianna’s prison sentence would diminish immediately following the sound of the big clunky gate shutting and locking behind them.

As for Hasan? Fuck him too. They still need to dry shave his beard with a dull rusty razor and alcohol.

DefendUSA

Breanna Manning won’t survive long…he’s a wuss.
As for Hasaan? He’s survived far too long. And I have a real problem with the fact that he got paid for 4 years and still receives his medical treatments on our dime.

I am so disgusted with why they charged with workplace violence and now he gets to make a mockery of the survivors as he represents himself.
Well, the elephant in the room was President Obama not calling this a terror attack because these survivors have nothing to fall back on for the rest of their lives in order that he may have a fucking fair trial? That’s not justice.

@11. It’s…THE DAILY DOUBLE!!!!

@12. I think it got shot off. But I hear he likes a good Kosher dog now and then.

@14 – Insofar as it’s possible, the victims should sue Hasan in civil court and get that money he’s been amassing over the past 4 years. It would be little compensation for their injuries, but IMO it would be a mechanism to take care of a few financial things since the gov’t obviously won’t take care of them.

Nik

Insofar as it’s possible, the victims should sue Hasan in civil court and get that money he’s been amassing over the past 4 years.

Oh. Nice thought. If it’s legal, they should totally do that. Granted, it’s “only” $300k, but that’s better than how Obama’s taking care of them.

LostOnThemInterwebs

So 1,500 idiots want to go 96 years to jail? well if they REALLY want to be bubba’s friend … just make sure they don’t hit protective chastity .. general population is enough for this idiots 🙂

Just An Old Dog

The asshole Hassan has already admitted he was for the most part a recruited insurgent/ enemy combatant.
The servicemen and women injured in the attack should be awarded purple hearts and given combat wounded status through the VA.

malclave

I was on the wrong side, but I switched sides

So he’s saying that he is an enemy soldier who was wearing a U.S. military uniform?

Fair enough. Shoot him.

Bobo

So, Hassan admits in open court to being an enemy combatant, but DoD is still refusing to issue Purple Hearts to the killed and wounded.

From a UPI article published on 2 APR 13 – “A position paper, delivered by the Pentagon to congressional staff members Friday, says giving the award, for injuries sustained in combat, to those injured at Fort Hood could “irrevocably alter the fundamental character of this time-honored decoration.””

Ex-PH2

On the noon TV news: the judges has ruled that Hasan can continue to represent himself. Don’t have a link, but will look for one.
