Combat role for woman should include their eligibility for the draft

| July 6, 2013

The Stars & Stripes has an article from the Ohio Springfield News-Sun, in which they discuss the possibility that women would be included in a future draft, and of course, the reporter gets quotes from the most experienced person that he can find – a 19-year-old girl who hasn’t even been to basic training yet;

Kristi Schweers, a 19-year-old Springfield resident who leaves this summer for Marine Corps boot camp, is a proponent of the all-volunteer military.

“Not everybody is military material,” Schweers said. “Not everyone is ready and willing to die.”

She doesn’t like the idea of anyone, male or female, being drafted, but thinks women are more than up to the challenge of fighting in the toughest of combat units.

“When it comes down to it,” she said, “the strength we have is insane. We give birth. C’mon, you can’t top that.”

Yeah, well, not all men are “military material”, yet they were drafted despite their qualifications. And, oh, yeah, giving birth is just like combat. No, really, it is.

When Jimmy Carter reinstated draft registration when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1980, the question of whether women should be included or not went to the Supreme Court and they held that, because women couldn’t fill combat positions, they could be subject to the draft. Well, now that this administration has removed that restriction, women should be lining up at the Post Office to register within 30 days after their 18th birthday like men have been doing to some extent for the last 30 years.

Line up, ladies.

Wow. Who knew military duty is like having a baby. When do I get my epidural?

Bam Bam

Maybe if they could launch babies out like mortars…

“Birthing unit this is OP2… Make it rain!”

Kidney stones > birth

Confirmed by my female ER doc, who had twins.

You can stop beating that horse ladies. My last one was 9mm.

Gotta disagree with you on this one.

Allowing women into combat arms units is bad enough. Forcing them into it would be a far worse reflection on our society.

I’m against the draft except in extreme cases, when we need large numbers of bodies to fight a protracted land war–WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc. I’m not calling for Selective Service to be abolished altogether, because there is always the possibility such an extreme case will pop up again in the future. But women should not be forced (or allowed) to register; if we face another war of this type, our society should call upon its men to bolster the standing professional military and defend the nation, just as civilized societies have done for millenia.

Just because the so-called “Party of Science” is pushing the idea that men and women are absolutely identical save for their external sexual organs and that traditional human gender roles were invented in the 1950s for no reason other than to oppress women, doesn’t mean we should join them in walking down that path.

They’ll just abolish the draft (they think that drones will allow them to conduct foreign policy without having to deal with messy casualties anyway). They might as well-it would be political suicide for any administration to start conscripting all the special little snowflakes.

Feminism, along with Socialism and Multiculturalism, is part of the holy trinity of lefty delusion and cannot be allowed to be challenged with actual facts or reason lest the whole edifice collapse upon itself.

C’mon, ladies, time to pony up on your equality rhetoric and go sign up for your draft card down at the Post Office. Aw, don’t want to now?

I see that Kristi Schweers is another product of the public school system of the 21st century. She must have been texting during biology and physiology classes. She obviously doesn’t understand the differences between giving birth and humping a ruck day in and day out with sporadic engagements with the enemy. While on the physiological side, women are designed for childbirth while their upper body is not designed for hauling all the equipment as a matter of their job description as an infantryman.

Ex-PH2

I have two hitches in the Navy. This is fine with me. In fact, I think it should have been done a LONG time ago. 🙂

If these silly women REALLY want equality, they need to understand what REALLY goes with it.

sqrlhntr

It’s obvious what she intends to do in the Corps. Stay pregnant, miss deployment.

Stacy0311

regarding the whole birth thing: find a woman who just gave birth. At the same time kick a guy in the balls. 1 year later, find the same 2 people. Ask each if they would be willing to do it again. THEN tell me how painful childbirth is…..
So Kristi just needs to STFU

Ex-PH2

@10 – Stacy0311, the first childbirth is frequently the most difficult and painful. Subsequent childbirths are usually easier.

I remember an old Social Studies teacher once tell the class “if women want to be equal, they will have to step down off that podium men place them on” (this was in the day of the ERA)…selective service, equal standards, etc are just downward steps that come with “cool” stuff like combat MOS’s.

Ash

Honestly, I’ve been saying we should be included in the draft for some time now, though I advocated them still excluding women from the combat MOS’s. I do not think that the majority of women are capable of keeping up in combat arms and I’m quite certain that the standards for said MOS’s are going to deteriorate rapidly once women are allowed in them… There are the occasional exceptions to that statement, of course. I’ve met women who were stronger, both literally and figuratively, than guys I’ve met but they are far from the norm. This is going to hurt our force. If they let the standards remain the same and women could meet them I would have no problem with it, but this “make things easier to be PC” shit is going to get people killed.

The only way there will ever be the kind of numbers of dead females the femi-nazis want is to force women into combat roles. That will require a draft as women discover joining the military might include being forced into the infantry with the resulting consequences of failing to adapt.

“Not everyone is ready and willing to die.” The military prepares one to kill, not to die. It’s not a very fine distinction but it is one that presently escapes her. She’ll learn soon enough as a boot.

Kristi, it’s time to wake up and smell a ruck sack and uniform that’s 3 weeks in the field. You are a product of our Politically Correct, 21st century education system. Sister they may tell you you are equal. Under the Constitution you are. As a Marine or 11 Bravo (not to mention SEALS, SF and Rangers or Forc Recon) you are not. Have all the babies you want but you will still not make it through Marine basic as a rifleman, equal to a man. Remember, not all men make it through. If you do you will get a behind the scenes assignment and probably make rank faster than men humping the countryside. You will get gender normed into thinking you are full fledged Marine but that is not “equal”. You obviously do not have a clue about what you are talking about so I will pay you no mind. If you go to the recruiter, tell them you want to test the same as a man and if they let you in tell the DI the same thing when you get to basic. And please, please don’t enlist and get pregnant. That is the cheapest form of female, “don’t want to go to war” there is.

setnaffa

Sign up or no Federal benefits. Including student loans…

Something to ponder:

“What society in its right mind would send women to combat when there are able bodied men available?”

A quote from my “uncle” who fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He passed away last year and I’m sure is turning in his grave.

Sparks

@18 Thank you for your response. God bless and keep your uncle and all of his service to our country! May you rest in peace old soldier.

Auto

my question is when they draft the able bodied men and women, who is going to work in factories? You cant honestly think that the old and young(<16) are going to be able to keep up with wartime production demands.

Eric

And if they shut down the selective service, how many millions would we save on that antiquated system?

It is yet another thing where the feminist side wants the benefits, but doesn’t want the disadvantages that go along with it. “Open my door and pay for my food because I’m a woman! I am equal to a man and deserve to do anything a man does or gets! Oh, but I’m going to carry my purse, not that 75 pounds of gear and sleep in the field with 30 men for 45 days because that’s for men, I’m a woman…”

Maddie

I agree women should be drafted. If we women truly want equality then we can’t pick and choose what equality means. As for being able to do a job, I believe everyone should meet set criteria for a job and that the criteria should not change because of gender.
I have worked with both men and women who can’t lift what they should and are a liability to everyone around them.

Oh well, back to Alterac Valley 🙂

@21 Eric

About $24 million a year. Budget dust really.

http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/FY%202013%20Budget%20Justification.PDF

If we ever did need to resort to conscription again..I dare say the cost to try and create a system, in a timely manner, that will actually be able to identify and classify all people of military age would cost far more than that. And cost time which would be of the essence if it was needed.

FatCircles0311

Is it truly that difficult to find an somebody with first hand experience instead of just asking some completely random person with none?

Are all of the infantry veterans hiding in secluded caves all of a sudden?

NHSparky

What @17 said. No bennies without same costs.

The liberal mind considers the military to be full of low intelligence almost criminal people who only wish to kill, maim and destroy.
The Liberals do not care if a war leads to victory and any defeat can be bought away or walked away from.
The Liberal view of an emergency draft will look like the opening segments of “Enemy at the gates” with the political enemies, people with political liabilities, the retarded even the handicapped, the slow, dumb and stupid drafted enmasse and every other man/woman is given a gun, no, not an assault rifle that might show disrespect to the enemy who they will cheer for even as they kill them.
Then when the war is over the draftees will either be set up for execution by the US Government using the former enemy as executioners or jailed in a Gulag somewhere in Alaska.
The military is considered just another bunch of murdering criminals by the Democrats.
It says a lot when the Veterans files at the labor department are kept in the same files as former convicted felons. That’s how the liberals and almost 57% of the nation considers us Veterans.

Sparks

@27 Well said. Thank you.

There is a great deal of truth in what Obsidian has written-somewhere on the web is an essay on “the tragic vision and the utopian vision”, which explains how conservatives and lefties (respectively) view human nature. Lefties are heavily invested in the utopian vision, but the existence of the military (and the necessity of its use) are constant reminders that that vision is false and that the left indulges in a dangerous delusion. They hate us for that, and it’s the kind of hate that only those who are wrong-and at some level know that they are wrong, but refuse to admit it-can muster. Have no fear though, they are no match for us in any type of combat (they know that as well, and it stokes their hatred).

Veritas Omnia Vincit

There is a problem of numbers though, that needs to be resolved. This nation is rapidly becoming less involved in the military and as a consequence less concerned about how to treat the military and how to budget the military. When less than 1% of the nation serves, and when the majority of those serving come from families where others have served before them it isolates the military more and more from the civilian sector of our society.

I am not suggesting that the draft is an answer, and if you read anything I post I am certain you know I am not in favor of women in combat. But something needs to happen to make the military an option of choice for more than 0.8% of the population or the military will get hosed more every year until such time as they are trulyneeded again and we will be as unprepared for that moment as we were in 1917 and 1941….

David

@27 – I think nowadays those drafted would be the ‘forgettable ones” who would form the modern equivalent of KGB battalions – the liberal intelligentsia would find a way out.

@25 – you honestly think a modern reporter s going to look for someone experienced who might tell the truth? Contradicting the party “all women are equal all of the time” party line? Why would someone who knows not to stand up during incoming want to set himself up to the fire he’s draw for telling the truth?

Old Tanker

So are they going to add “Birthing” to the new physical standard?
