Karzai to allow US to keep 9 bases open

| May 9, 2013

Andy and Jerry920 sent us links to the story that Hamid Karzai told students at Kabul Universtiy that he’s willing to allow the US to keep 9 bases open after the “withdrawal” from Afghaistan next year;

The remarks were the first time the Afghan leader had offered any insight into ongoing talks over a deal that would outline American presence in Afghanistan after 2014.

CBS News Kabul bureau chief Mukhtar Ahmad reports that, according to Karzai, the U.S. wants to maintain bases in Kabul, Herat, Helmand, Shindand, Gardez, Mazar, Jalalabad, Kandahar and Bagram.

I guess he did the math and discovered that the taxes on his new mansion in the south of France are going to be higher than he thought and he’ll need a couple more years of socking away that CIA and MI6 cash they’ve been dropping off in his office recently.

Karzai has painted the US as the biggest threat to stability in his country, yet he’s willing to let us stay? Damn decent of the fellow, ain’t it? There’s no reason to stay anymore – Karzai blames us for everything and this administration isn’t willing to fight the war the way it needs to be fought. So why are we trying to give the Taliban 9000 more targets?

By the way, CBS says they don’t have an answer from the US to their questions about Karzai announcement.

“Sorry, what did you ask? I can’t hear you over the sound of us destroying everything we can’t carry out of this crappy country.”

So a withdrawal isn’t a withdrawal, sort of like decimated doesn’t really mean decimated. Depends on what your definition of is is.

Twist

And the Liberals will still cry “Obama ended the war in Afghanistan”.

NHSparky

Twist–only if the Taliban ends up killing a few million in reprisals like they did in Cambodia and Vietnam.

@3 Just like he killed Osama Bin Laden right? I havent seen one thing yet that I can say he has done well, I Have seen a lot of political dancing, poor judgment, apologies to other countries, and acting like a rockstar instead of a President.

I would like us to be in Afghanistan until yesterday. Screw Karzai and whatever the hell US foreign policy is in the ME–the best kept secret in the world.

As a lecher and a pig, I say the military should leave any country where the women are ugly.

The Greatest Generation fought and died in places teeming with beautiful women, like Italy and France and Germany and Japan.

Korea and Vietnam? Beautiful women. Crappy countries with plenty of exotic diseases, but beautiful women.

Kuwait? Iraq? A-stan? Thank god for cyberporn and thumb drives.

As far as Afghanistan, let Obama resign and move there. He’d fit right in with their twisted, corrupt and bankrupt government.

Here’s hoping Karzai is choking on the exhaust from the last convoy out of town REAL soon!! One thing I will fault President Bush for is vouching for Hamid the Corrupt. What a ally he has been. I wonder if he ever got his bus drivers license because he has been throwing the U.S. military under one since 2001.

Can they at least salt the poppy fields before they leave?

NHSparky

I’d be okay if Putin wanted to test the updated version of Tsar Bomba there. YMMV.

Hondo

NHSparkly: only the version without the U238 jacket. Too much fallout from the really big one.

Nik

Screw him. Junk everything we can’t easily carry out, blow up the physical and semi-physical structures (no need giving those asshats free airfields and the like) and GTFO post-haste.

Get. Out. NOW!
Leave. Nothing. Intact. Behind.
Agent. Orange. The. Rest.
Transmission. Out.

Betcha he has real estate and other holdings within close poximity of each base!

A Proud Infidel

@#9, I’m all for “dusting” the poppy fields with some 2, 4D herbicide, it’ll kill the poppies, but they can grow food crops instead afterward! As for Karzai, I wonder just how much money he’s got stashed in Swiss bank accounts, and just where he’s planning on running off to, Paris? Rio?…

Ex-PH2

Karzai in France? Naw, he’ll just cross the border into Pakistan and live behind the compound walls of his overpriced mansion built with the cheapest labor on the planet.

What you are all missing here is that if the US pulls out completely, he won’t get any more of that ‘aid package’ crap, because once we’re gone, the Taliban takes over. What do you think will happen to him? Probably a bullet to the head or maybe a public beheading — something suitably gruesome, a fitting punishment for an enemy of the Taliban and al Qaeda. That’s his destiny and he knows it.

2/17 Air Cav

Perhaps he’ll just move to Maryland and join his brothers there. That’s right. Mahmoud Karzai is an American citizen and lives in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Maryland. Another Karzai brother, Quayam, owns a Baltimore restaurant. So, no, I don’t think either Paris or Pakistan will be the next stop for Bro Prez. It’s Baltimore or bust!

OWB

You mean he might bring some of the $$ back here? That would be kinda sweet.
