A Novel Way of Supplementing Income
Everyone knows that junior enlisted guys and gals don’t make all that much. But it seems as if one soldier found a . . . creative way of supplementing his income.
Anthony Pirone was unemployed. He was drawing unemployment compensation in CA.
He finally got fed up with being jobless. So in May 2011, he enlisted. He’s currently serving in Afghanistan.
There’s only one tiny problem. It seems Pirone didn’t notify the state of California he was employed after he enlisted. In fact, according to the state of California he filed false affidavits at least 10 times stating he had no job after he’d enlisted. He also cashed the unemployment checks he received between May and Decembeer 2011.
Since Pirone is currently deployed, his trial will be delayed until after he returns from deployment. But then he’ll have to answer a few rather pointed questions.
By the way: if you’re thinking you’ve heard the name “Anthony Pirone” – you just might have. Pirone is one of the BART cops that was involved in the 2009 New Year’s Day shooting incident in Oakland. He was later fired for his actions that night, which reportedly were recorded on video and included striking the guy who later was shot, yelling racial epithets, and in general contributing to the escalation of the incident. Nice guy.
Oh, and I’m guessing Pirone was pulling in a fair chunk in unemployment – which explains why he might have been reluctant to give it up. At the time he was fired by BART, he was making in excess of $100k a year in salary and overtime.

A blight, a stain on honest cops everywhere. BART did the right thing firing him, he should have been charged criminally. Bet Big Army finds a way to send him home early to face the music. Absolute worst thing in the world to be a former cop in prison, as he will find out.
And if his CoC is worth a damn, they’ll make him face UCMJ action before they let the Civilian Authorities have their day, maybe a LTH or a Big Chicken Dinner, then after his conviction in a Civilian Court, he’ll be screaming “WEEEEEE,… WEEEEEE,…” for Bubba, “Thor”, or whoever else offers the most cigarettes!
He’s a blight and a stain on the human race. He got a second chance when he enlisted, after he got fired — not too many of those going around, right? And he managed to screw it up.
Oh, and Pirone? The government has NO sense of humor when it comes to “its” money. The government can play shinanigans with “their” money all day long, but when you try it, well…let’s just say they will make sure you have plenty of time to think about what you did wrong.
As the old saying goes, “DON’T STEAL, the Government hates the competition!”.
Novel, but stupid. I’m wondering why he isn’t being sent home ASAP, given that he’s looking at felony charges. I can’t imagine a command that would want to keep him around, knowing the issues he’s got.
Here…let me save Green Thumb a little trouble.
Turd.
Now, having said that, he should be on the first plane home in custody and under guard, which takes at least four other hard-working, honest soldiers out of the fight.
Royal turd.
He’s a crook, like the dame in Hawaii in the other thread. That’s all. Done. Being in service allows one the presumption that the individual is an upstanding citizen. However, as these two POS well establish, the presumption is rebuttable.
What a dumb ass. You have to wonder how someone that slimy even got into BART or the Army. If you are going to play the unemployment game don’t get a job with the Government, be like all the under the table illegals and “unemployed” you see working in day labor.
@8. Funny, there are many jobs in gov’t where one is unemployed. Nice paycheck but little or no work.
Bag. Douche. 1 ea.
I have been unemployed since last June and in that time-span, I have had 6 “random” WA state audits where I had to go into the unemployment office and show evidence of my attempts to seek employment. Apparently CA doesn’t have this or someone fudged paperwork to allow this assclown to do this…
A couple things to note here:
1. The max unemployment CA gives is $450 a week. After that you’re maxed out and cant go any higher.
2. CA hardly ever checks up on anyone, unless there’s crazy red flags. Most people will never even have to verify they looked for work, or show up in person, its simply too much for the CA system to handle.
That is still 1800 a month which was probably a nice little supplement to his Army pay. What a damn wanker…..
MGySgtRet: bingo. And 6 x $1,800 = $10,800.
Further, most months have a bit over 4 weeks. Over 6 months, that adds up to an additional 2 weeks, or an extra $900.
Yeah, I can see why the tool might have been kinda reluctant to give that up. Hell, I could use an extra $1,800 or so a month myself. But it ain’t worth going to prison to get it.
