NYPD cop shoots son, boyfriend, self
The Washington Post reports that a New York police officer shot her boyfriend, her one-year-old son and then turned the gun on herself after her 19-year-old son escaped through a window.
The officer was identified by family and property records as 43-year-old Rosette Samuel. She joined the force in 2000. Police say nothing in her records indicated she was troubled.
I only mention this because if it had been a veteran of the recent wars, it would be front page news and the hand-wringers would come out of the woodwork demanding that we ‘do something’. This officer was one of the only people who Mayor Bloomberg wants armed on the streets of New York, or so he’s told us.
I don’t bring this up as a shot at cops, so to speak, but rather a shot at the gun grabbers, like Bloomberg, who blame the gun, and obviously, it’s the people that are the problem.

NY is on the verge of going ballistic.
Just because they don’t have a psych history doesn’t mean they’re normal. Anyone who can shoot a one-year old is a wingnut, I don’t care what kind of badge they wear.
So much for the idea that cops are somehow more responsible with guns than the civilian population, but most of us here already knew that.
Some cops are nuttier than fruitcakes? Not really news, but still terribly sad. My thoughts are for the 19 year old son.
Meanwhile, cops reflect society at large. The best we can hope for is that the goofiest of them are weeded out early in the hiring process. They do try to do that, of course, but cops are no more perfect as a group than any other group of citizens.
Sad story. People with issues will find a way to hurt themselves and others. If this lady didn’t have a firearm she just as likely would have used a knife, other weapon, drugs or simply set her house on fire with everyone in it. Magically getting rid of firearms isn’t the “easy button” to fix violence in our country.
think all of the above are true. Remnds me of some research a while back that said for all the posturing and “we have to get of the nasty machine-guns” rhetoric,there have been something like two – 2 – incidents committed using LEGAL full autos. Both werre committed by cops – one who blew away an informant, the other who took out his allegedly cheating wife/girlfriend. Kinda makes you think the loonies are running the asylum in some respects.
Dunno, I AM becoming convinced that it is The Gun that is responsible for incidents like this. This poor officer obviously heard The Gun tell her to commit this heinous act.
Maybe the gun grabbers are right after all?
Well, my guns (if I had any) do talk to me. They make me feel all warm and a bit safer. Who knows what evil guns talk about?
The answer obviously is to disarm all cops at all levels of government. That will cure the problem of cops shooting citizens, family members, and themselves. The problem of cops misusing guns will disappear overnight as no one will take the job unless they are crazy. If they are crazy they can be disqualified from serving.
Catch 22. The best catch there is.
Those damn “guns” do it every time, got a mind of their own I’m telling ya. Word out last night, his hona the Blooming*panties*berg is financing the anti gun campaign he’s running out of his pocket. I once heard communist’s love capitalism as long as it is working in their favor. Sorry to hear this cop tossed her cookies overboard though and condolences for the nineteen year old.
