Brian sends us a link to the news that the Indianapolis Colts have signed 1LT Josh McNary to their reserve list. McNary is still on active duty;

“Josh had an outstanding career at West Point,” said General Manager Ryan Grigson. “His production speaks for itself, but his intangibles rival any stats. He is still fulfilling the commitment he made to serving our country, but we look forward to him wearing the horseshoe here in the near future.”

McNary, 6-0, 251 pounds, finished his career as Army’s all-time leader in sacks (28.0) and tackles for loss (49), while adding 195 tackles (117 solo), nine passes defensed, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He is the only player in school history to record two double-digit sack seasons and also holds school records for the most sacks in a single game (4.0) and a single season (12.5).

And even with him, ya’ll still couldn’t beat Navy.

Just sayin.

Twist

I sent that just to get Air Cav and TSO to visit the Colts website. I found out after I already emailed that it looks like the Army is going to let him go into the Reserves or National Guard so he can Play with the Colts sooner.

Blake

Congrats on the contract.

The only Colts I am fond of are two of their cheerleaders.

Sparky: I heard McNary also received an appointment to Annapolis but, after a visit there, said, “My manhood is more important than football so, thanks, but I’m going to the Point.”

NHSparky

And yet by going to West Point he sacrificed both.

Just remember, Dan Choi went to West Point too.

Twist

That was hitting below the belt, Sparky.

@5. Dan Choi? Dan Choi? That it? Dan Choi? Here’s just two for you: Jimmy Carter and John Kerry.

All kidding aside, here’s my favorite, all time football/military story. Older guys of any Branch know the story, that’s for sure. But it’s worth revisiting from time to time. If nothing else, the story speaks to the giant character of two men, aa player and an NFL owner. Enjoy.

@2 “….. looks like the Army is going to let him go into the Reserves or National Guard so he can Play with the Colts sooner.”

Wouldn’t be surprised. The Navy did something similar with David “The Admiral” Robinson, who by the way is a class act. That had to be good PR for someone.

@8, the Navy also did that because Robinson was still growing when he was at USNA and was too tall to fit in pretty much anything. Entered USNA at 6’6″ and left at 7’1″.

He was apparently thinking about leaving USNA after two years because he thought that not being able to be on a ship would hurt a Navy career.

Math major too, with a 1320 SAT.

@6–only idiots “fight fair” Twist.

Hondo

NHSparky: I wouldn’t advise starting down that path, amigo. The 66 USNA alumni in the third item linked below would appear to predate Choi graduating from USMA.

I’m glad the US Army is fulfilling it’s purpose of war fighting.

Air Cav, I think you meant Jim Webb. Kerry was a Yale man.

Custer was also a West Point grad. Just sayin’.

2/17 Air Cav

@13. Hey, Custer did a great job during the Civil War. That little Indian thingy didn’t go so well, though, I’ll admit.

I thought Kerry was USNA. Sorry about that. He does seem like he would have been USNA material though.

Somehow, the words “Kerry, Yale and man” just don’t cut the mustard.
