CO Senator Mary Hodge pulls a Feinstein

| March 9, 2013

Mary Hodge

According to Twitchy, in the late night hours, the Colorado Senate debated whether veterans and active duty soldiers should be exempted from their impending magazine ban in an amendment by Republican Senator, Kent Lambert. When he introduced the bill, Mary Hodge objected to the amendment because “some of them come back with significant mental health problems”.

Senator Lambert objected to her generalization.

LAMBERT: Thank you Mr. Chair. Of course our active duty military people suffer from traumas of war. They have since the Civil war. They’ve gone through battle fatigue. They’ve gone through soldier’s disease, in the Civil War is what they called it.

But to stereotypically say that we’re just going to have a blanket policy in this state saying that military veterans, who if they have mentally deficient problems or if they have traumatic stress and they’ve been diagnosed they’re not eligible to get weapons anyway. It’s already part of the law.

It does raise a point: are we doing enough for our veterans? Maybe not, but that’s not part of this bill. But please don’t stereotypically identify military veterans and active duty members as being disqualified for arms ownership simply because they’ve served our country.

CHAIR; Senator Hodge

HODGE: Thank you Mr. Chair, and I did not say “all” had mental problems. I said “some.”

Yeah, but “all” will be effected by the magazine ban because “some”, a very tiny, miniscule number of “some”, have problems. The media has done it’s job, apparently, by poisoning the image of veterans.

The exchange is at about 13:13 of the video;

Hey ! Thats Big Ruglicking Sis’s ( Janet Napolitano) husband !

Geez she puts the ” U ” in ugly, and the “R” in Ruglicking.

Out of curiosity – what does the CO magazine ban say about current or retired LEOs who might have seen a shrink from time to time, maybe even for PTSD associated with an on-duty incident or ten? Do they get an exemption as current/retired LEOs? If so, why?

@2: Because “Shut up,” they explained.

I wish slapping stupid people were legal.

Ex-PH2

@5 – You could do that with fish, you know.

This across-the-board attitude toward vets has me wondering just what is it that makes them decide that they know more about us than we know about ourselves. I know very few veterans from my generation who actually have this problem, and only one of them said he dislike hiking in the forest preserve because it was too much like being back in the jungle in Vietnam.

I’m getting the idea that the ‘vets have PTSD’ slur, and it is a slur, has more to do with control issues on the part of politicians than it does with real-world data and/or facts. Maybe Hondo can pop in with percentages per demographic group and era.

It seems to be a consistent slant, not toward solving the problem of violent crime in general, but toward trying to control a population group that can actually think for itself and defend itself if necessary.

What an idiot. Here is the definition of soldier’s disease. Soldier’s Disease was a term first applied to the soldiers returning home from the U.S. Civil War with addictions. It is thought that the widespread use of morphine and opium to treat injuries and maladies during the war accounted for the phenomenon at that time. Later wars such as World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War led to further discussion of Soldier’s Disease (also known as Army Disease) as veterans returned home from war with substance problems.

Hondo

Cpt Bob: you might be well advised to do a bit of homework before ranting like that, fella. Lambert confused two terms that were commonly used to describe different post-Civil War maladies affecting vets, but was 100% correct otherwise.

From the context here (PTSD), it’s obvious that Lambert was referring to what was called “soldier’s heart” (it was also referred to as “exhausted heart”). That’s generally accepted to have been a manifestation in Civil War vets of what would today be diagnosed as symptoms of PTSD.

http://www.vva.org/archive/TheVeteran/2005_03/feature_HistoryPTSD.htm

Yeah, Lambert misspoke slightly and substituted one archaic term for another. But that’s nowhere near as ludicrous or objectionable as to what Ms. Ditz did here.

I wonder how many of her three adult sons served in the military. I wonder if she or her husband is a Veteran. Hey this is just a wild guess but I say 0-5.

Hondo

Not tracking, 2/17 Air Cav. Did you mean “0 of 5”?

Common Sense

@1 – she’s a beauty queen compared to my CO Senator – Evie Hudak:

“shudder”

She’s the one who ridiculed Amanda Collins when she testified about how she may have been able to protect herself from rape had her concealed carry firearm been allowed on campus.

I almost wish these Dems would keep saying such ridiculous things so that we can use them against them next time elections roll around.

Dipshidiots!

@10. Yeah, or 0 for 5–as in nothin’ outta five.

Well, DIFi did say “We have federal regulations and state laws that prohibit hunting ducks with more than three rounds. And yet it’s legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150-round magazines”. The stupid seems to be very strong in these fugly lib’rul women. http://gopthedailydose.com/2013/03/09/sen-feinstein-makes-wild-claim-to-push-gun-control-at-senate-committee-hearingits-legal-to-hunt-humans/

Ex-PH2

Common Sense, when people who say and do these abominably stupid things in a public forum and no one really takes them to task over it, they will continue to say and do them until they overstep the bounds of common decency.

That will be when the backlash begins. Consider this to be the calm before the storm. It’s coming.

My only question is this: if this is their attitude toward us, as a group, would we be justified in turning our backs on them when they are attacked? Personally, my response would be “Futue te ipsum”.

I may see if Ranger Up can make up a shirt for me with that on it.

Flagwaver

Ex-PH2, if someone does make a point of saying something about their stupidity, then you are racist, sexist, a warmonger, or any other character flaw/discrimination. Remember, if someone disagrees with you, and are not a democrat, then it is because they are against you because of your skin, reproductive organs, or some other reason that has nothing to do with the topic with which they disagree.

Cpt Bob

Hondo. I did research this and since she made reference to what is was called at the time of the civil war, that was why I used what was said in the 1800’s. It came from a December 4, 1914, speech by Jeannette Marks, a member of The National Woman’s Party, a feminist organization, and her work, “The Curse of Narcotism in America”.

Ex-PH2

Flagwaver — exactly. Their willingness to bully people who don’t agree with them, and to throw epithets and slurs at others is compounded by their inability to take what they hand out. The smug attitude gives them an excuse.

FatCircles0311

Too bad we can’t ban fat women with bad haircuts that look like men.

Hondo

Cpt Bob: the terms “soldier’s heart” and “exhausted heart” were also in common use in the 1800s. Had you researched PTSD and the Civil War, you’d have almost certainly found the other term and realized what Lambert was talking about. Obviously you didn’t.

My point was you were jumping to conclusions and publicly declaring Lambert an idiot without exercising any due diligence. Had you done so, you’d have realized he’d merely misspoke and actually knew precisely what he was talking about.

In my book, that’s kind of like making a big deal out of using a colloquial spelling or phrase as evidence that someone is “stupid”. That argument often backfires. And it’s IMO also critiquing style vice substance. I’ve always had a problem with that.

Ex-PH2

I have never seen a haircut that looks like a man. 😉

It’s the lack of respect and what appears to be a panic-attack, or anxiety attack, attitude directly associated with the word veteran. It is unreasoning. It is a herd mentality. The fact that we do have free will, we exercise it, and we rebut their bullying head-on, all irritate the living daylights out of these ignorant, self-serving jerks.

But this statement: “And yet it’s legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150-round magazines.” — right out of DiFi’s mouth is completely outrageous.

Where the hell does that imbecilic old sow get off saying something like that?

When has it ever been legal to hunt human beings?

When?

Let her keep on saying these things. They get published in the press and picked up on the internet. You know this stuff does not go away. She’s just digging a deeper and deeper hole for herself, herself and others like her.

I am happy that they are so blatantly bribing the people expected to enforce these laws.

It’s a nice change to see it done so openly.

I again put forth my recommendation where all politicians must have an IQ of at least 120 before being able to run for public office.

I’m pretty damned sure this scrunt would have a hard time meeting that requirement.

melle1228

@27 Would any of them remain on the hill.. Serious think about some of them up there.

I still want to know how some of them get as far as they do. Do they have handlers. I mean who goes to someone like Hank “Guam is going to flip over ” Johnson and says “you have potential run for office.”

2/17 Air Cav

I don’t understand these people. They are all screwing around with the small stuff. If more laws will magically eliminate massacres, why not cover all bases at one time and prohibit death by other than old age? I think such a bill would enjoy bipartisan support and there will be no constitutional issue with it whatsover. Yeah, that’s the stuff. Ban death.

Ex-PH2

@23 – I don’t know, Hondo. I think she looks more like the Fat Broad from the BC Comics strip than anything else. Melle, they get as far as they do with PR campaigns, more than anything else. I got more crap from Melissa Bean last fall, sometimes four pieces of junk mail per day in my mailbox, than I would have thought possible. It smacks of desperation, and vilifying her opposition pushed me to look up his campaign on the internet. None of what she said about him was true, but he never sent anything out in the mail. Basically, if you want the job through the electoral process, you have to campaign like crazy and make a strong sales pitch. However, when a lot of these people actually get into office, the truth comes out: they are not there to represent the people in their district or state. They are there to represent their own interests and push their own agendas. There are exceptions to this. There always are. I try to believe that if enough of this disfunctional dialog hits the media, people will wake up. All the crap that Feinstein has been spouting gets more and more idiotic, e.g., ‘it’s now legal to hunt humans’. It doesn’t just disappear into the past any more. And there are plenty of blogs and websites that are collecting it the way other people collect stamps. If the GOP can pull itself together instead of squabbling, something good might come out of this unmitigated crap. AirCav’s right: these people are wasting taxpayers’ time and money (taxes) on unnecessary legislation instead of addressing the real issues, like 7.7% unemployment (still too high), slow job growth, no budget, unnecessary cutbacks in military spending that are already generating the start of more unemployment claims, etc. We all know the real issues, which none of these dimwitted, self-centered clowns want to face. It’s more important to squabble over whether or not someone should have a gun than it is to solve the real problems at hand. And there is such a thing as payback… Read more »

The issue is that ‘insane,’ ‘mentally deficient,’ ‘moron,’ and other terms describing mental illness and mental deficiency are LEGAL terms that can be, more or less, based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

The DSM is, historically, subject to Political Correctness and not science. The redefinitions of homosexuality is an example of this subjection. Because the law and PC but not science will define who can own guns and paraphenalia, Senator Hodges’s comments are odious.

Larger question: how to set the definitions of mentally and emotionally capable to own guns, so as to prevent a Jared Loughner where possible?

There are people out there, vets among them, who are not mentally and/or emotionally capable of exercising sound judgement with loaded guns.

Looking at her and Evie Hudak make me think of a joke…

A very loud, unattractive, mean, nasty woman walked into Wal-Mart with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.

The Wal-Mart Greeter said pleasantly “Good morning, and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?”

The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, “Hell no they aren’t. The oldest one’s 9, and the other one’s 7. Why the hell would you think they’re twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?”

“I’m neither blind nor stupid, Ma’am,” replied the greeter. “I just couldn’t believe someone would sleep with twice.” “Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart .”

Old Trooper

@6: It’s all part of what I was talking about in the other thread; they are afraid of us, because of the reasons I laid out, and want to marginalize us in the view of the general public. It’s part of what you mention; control.

Ex-PH2

@37 – Yeah, but isn’t sort of that like trying to lasso a tornado? 😉

Old Trooper

@38: true, but that isn’t going to stop them from trying. They have been practicing the “slow creep” in that the initial DHS report back in 2009 that portrayed Vets as dangerous. Even though it was retracted, the damage was being done in the media and with the drooling moonbats on the left, who ran with the narrative and were on every leftist radio and tv show throwing it around. The narrative has been growing and these latest stunts are more of the same in order to attempt to cement it in the minds of the general public. Just as the commies succeeded in vilifying Vietnam Vets for so many years in the eyes of the public, with the help of the media and hollywierd. Those stereotypes took a long time to break and now we have a new front to fight for this generation. Unfortunately, they are using the blanket meme and covering all Veterans under it, this time.

Ex-PH2

@39 – What you said is the reason everyone must be vigilant and pay attention to what these morons say and do, which can be done without going paranoid.

Using the blanket “all ___________ are horrible, evil people” statement is what Hitler did. It’s defamation of an entire population group. It encompasses veterans of ALL wars, including WWII, Korea and Vietnam, never mind the Balkans, the Gulf War, and Iraq/Afghanistan. I would include WWI, but all those people have died out. It also includes current, sitting members of both houses of Congress.

Yeah — we’re all a dangerous bunch of bananas. But if we’re so dangerous, how come we aren’t forming flash mobs and ripping off stores, or knocking and robbing pedestrians in broad daylight, or ganging up at shopping malls and starting riots over nothing?

At this point, I don’t care how many new gun laws all them libtards pass. I Will Not Obey Any of Them.
