Manchin won’t talk guns
Preston sends us a link from the Morgantown Journal of a Q&A they did with West Virginia’s junior senator, Joe Manchin. But the only part you need to read is the disclaimor that the Journal put in the beginning of the interview;
Editor’s note: This question and answer session was permitted under the condition that The Journal would not ask questions regarding gun control legislation or the Second Amendment, as requested by the senator’s staff.
I quit reading the article after that. One of the biggest issues of the day, and Manchin hasn’t been at all forthcoming about what his plans are for the legislation currently being discussed in the Senate and he doesn’t want to respond to those questions about it. All he’s told West Virginians about his views is that “no one is going o take your guns”, but then, tell me why he’s working with known serial gun-grabber Chuck Schumer trying to craft a stronger system for background checks when Schumer himself has said that he wants to use background checks as a backdoor to registration and registration as a backdoor to confiscation?
Manchin’s inability to craft a coherent message on gun control only leads to speculation here. None of it favors Manchin. We may be stuck with him for six more years, but he may end up being the senior Senator from West Virginia before we get to replace him.

Moral Cowardice. Take a stand, be your own person and stand up for what you believe in… if you believe in anything at all that is.
If he’s refusing to talk, there’s a reason. It won’t be good news for gun owners, either.
He won’t talk because he has something up his sleeve. Pity you can’t put him down on the ground with his arm behind his back and persuade him to spill what he’s hiding.
Oh, he’s up to something, all right. Keep a weather on that direction. Storm’s a-comin’.
The phrase “Bart Stupak redux” keeps coming to mind . . . .
That should be ‘weather eye’. Sorry
If Tonto were alive today, he’d tell us “Politics man speak with forked tongue!”. we should ALWAYS be skeptical about what pols say, and doubly suspicious when they rock around on their heels and tiptoe like Manchin’s doing right now. He’s from WV, where the 2nd Amendment is a BIG issue, if he caves, he’s committing political suicide.
A Proud Infidel: Manchin may not care that much about his political future at this point. He’s already 65 and will be 71 by the time his current term in the Senate ends in Jan 2019. His Congressional pension will by then be worth somewhere around $24-25k a year; he’s already eligible for Social Security (I’d guess another $12-24K a year); and he’s got 24 years of service as an elected official in West Virginia (assuming a $100k/year salary as governor and 24 years of service in state offices, that comes to around $48k a year). He’ll be living reasonably well ($85-$96k a year from those three sources) if he elects to call it quits in 2018.
Unless he’s thinking about another run for governor or perhaps POTUS in 2016, I’d guess this could well be his last elective office.
Manchin went to D.C., and fell under Feinstein’s spell? Or was it Chuck-U Shcumer’s spell?
Since when do the polls get to set the agenda on what gets asked, they’re supposed to work for the voters, not be regal and above them.
@6, True! But a lot of pols get elected and suddenly get “DC-itis”, a mental affliction that suddenly makes them consider themselves as royalty!
Manchin is a closet liberal democrat and that means he will do what his lord Obama tells him to do. He will fuck gun owners at each and every opportunity.
