Oscars? Meh
Several of you want express your outrage at the First Lady who graced us with her presence at the Oscars last night with some mannequins behind her. I don’t understand the symbolism of the military members behind her since she didn’t mention them or their service…but she is the First Lady and I’m sure, guessing by their wide smiles, the troops who were there were happy – and that’s all that matters to me, seriously.
But folks on Twitter weren’t so happy about it, according to Twitchy. Jennifer Rubin had some stuff to say about it at the Washington Post. Drudge says she “crashed the Oscars”.
But, since I don’t really care what happened at the Oscars because I’m too busy dealing with real life things here, it’s all just so much noise – from both sides. If you guys want to get exercised about Hollywood, knock yourselves out – I won’t think any less of you. In fact you can get exercised because I’m not exercised, if you want. Meh.
Category: Barack Obama/Joe Biden, Big Army
I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Oscars since the last movie I watched was Blazing Saddles. Oh, and Private Ryan.
My only observation is that the King and Queen sure like to trot out Service members for props.
Upon hearing about them crashing the Oacars this morning, I just thought it rather odd. Not at all presidential. Strange. But then, each first family gets to develop their own interests, – this is what interests this family. Sad.
But, yeah, the pic of our young military members as props is irritating. Again. Some more.
I’d sooner watch a documentary on the mating habits of retarded three-toed sloths than the Oscars.
They want to keep that celebrity status going and be treated as such not as the elected leader of the free country. That’s why they find it more fun to talk to Holyweird over our Ally countries.
I stole this from a comment in a Ranger Up thread; “isn’t it ironic that the White House presented the Oscar for best picture to a movie about an embassy rescue?”
Juan and Evita.
I don’t watch the Oscars, but this is really a non-starter as far as White House issues are concerned. We have presidents congratulating football teams for a victory, so congratulating some actors is no big deal, but I do like @5 CaS6’s quote….made me laugh.
Just blech!!
I would rather poke my eyes out with a nail gun shooting red hot nails then watch the oscars. Only oscar i like is oscar meyer hot dogs.
A bunch of rich Liberal elitists pating each other on the back…no thanks, I’ll pass.
@6 My thoughts exactly; their behaviour mimics that of despotic dictato…oh, that’s right, their behaviour mimics dictators because they are. The US Royal Family: Benevolent Ruler Supreme Obama.
I loved her panderring comments about “loving however you wanted to love” or whatever she said.
The fine OFFICERS standing behind the FLOTUS were all smiling because this was a break from the arduous combat duites they were all involved in.
The impressive array of military decorations and badges leads me to believe they were all White House Staff and or local PAO’s (not there is anything wrong with that).
I wonder if they fed and watered too?
In the end: White House and DoD FAIL!
who ever ….
It pisses me off only in the sense that the liberal Hollywood crowd basically tells the rest of us that “yeah, we bankrolled this douche, and we will rub your hayseed noses in it all we like”. And the first lady using the military for props makes me want to throw up an MRE that I ate back in 97. But other than that, I am fine with it…..
were about to lose jobs, training, and money for SM and DOD civilians and this shameful watse of money and resources. talked about pissed off i am
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Hollywood award presentation in my lifetime. The entertainment community (and those who support it) is hollow and morally bankrupt to me, and represents a significant departure of the morals/ethics/beliefs that I have. Same goes for Michelle Obama. I don’t watch her husband, and don’t give a rats-ass about what she says or does. People only affect you if you allow them to, and I won’t allow that kind of trash in my house.
That dress makes her hips look wider than the beam of the USS Yorktown…
@5 – Ironically enough, we were watching Argo instead of the Oscars last night, it was actually pretty good. I especially liked the bonus feature where they showed the interviews with the real people involved.
My thought was that it was too bad they didn’t put as much effort and concern into the Benghazi rescue as they did the 6 Americans from Iran. Even Carter was actually involved and concerned about the situation, as compared to “I’m going off to party in Las Vegas Obama”.
The Oscars are dreadful. I just go online the next day to look at the dresses.
Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden have been courting favor with the military through their children for 5 years now. We are part of a social group termed “Third Culture Kid” We basically grew up straddling two cultures, military and civilian. “Argo” is a movie based in part on a of a story by a TCK, diplomat’s son, who grew up in Iran and t hen joined the US Army to help with the hostage crisis. Here is his blog about it:
http://3dculturekid.blogspot.com/2012/11/argo-canadian-caper-and-story-of-young.html
As a USAF Brat, I find it offensive to see and that it smacks of propagandist behavior, since they came in fairly disliked by the military overall and are still regarded with distaste, thank goodness. I just wish that there were more ears to the rails on this, for the sake of today’s military dependents and their parents.
I regulated the Oscars to the taping capabilities of my Beta Max.
Oscars?
Wife watched the Oscars while I scanned pictures in my office, but I heard some of it.
The most entertaing thing to do today is read all the tut-tutting and finger-wagging at host Seth McFarlane.
Apparently the powers-that-be in Hollywood hired McFarlane because they didn’t want some old fuddy-duddy to host, they wanted to be “edgy” and “hip” and now they are shocked – SHOCKED! – that a guy whose only schtick is a couple of crude, un-funny cartoon shows put on a crude, un-funny Oscar presentation.
May I sum it all up for everyone?
“Fuck’em.”
Oh, I don’t know. I like the placement of the V on her dress. I think that is funny. Other than that, what Medzyk said.
Since when is being on TV in that idiocy that lets Hollywood pat itself on the back more important than the real things going on in the world?
I must be getting crankier than I thought. I just see this “look at me!!!!” stuff to be about as tacky and vainglorious as you can get. I would rather be stepped on by a rhino than watch that crap.
I echo what Medzyk said.
I don give a damn that the First Lady went to the Oscars.
However, I am bent out of shape – immensely – that the US government picked up the tab for her, her escorts, and her security detail to make the trip. Total up the whole bill, including salaries/lodging/per diem and AF1 operating costs/allocated maintenance costs, and I’d guess the bill is easily between $250k and $500k for that little unnecessary boondoggle.
Uh, Hondo, she was in the White House.
Look at the wall behind her. Take a deep breath. Chill. She was in the White House.
@21 re: Seth McFarlane, I couldn’t pick him out of a lineup if my life depended on it….but,
In a replay I saw, I did think his joke about Django Unchained where a man tries to win back his girl after the girl has taken unconscionable abuse was like a date movie for Chris Brown and Rihanna was pretty good. Of course I have no concern for the tender sensibilities of wife/girlfriend beating 4ssholes.
The crowd did not agree my opinion, but I find those who point out what’s true in this country are often looked upon unfavorably. If Chris Brown wasn’t a woman beating piece of sh1t he wouldn’t have to worry about being the brunt of a poor sense of humor in an Oscar host.
Well, I guess that’s what I get for taking the term “crashed the Oscars” literally vice reading the story in detail. Mea culpa.
Even if I don’t give a damn about the Oscars and didn’t watch them, I should have known better. Even Drudge exaggerates at times.
@ #5: “isn’t it ironic that the White House presented the Oscar for best picture to a movie about an embassy rescue?”
And, more military personnel were deployed to the scene of Michelle’s Oscar appearance than were deployed to the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.
In regard to goings-on in Washington, there was this in an article about the asteroid that bypassed Earth last week:
“Asteroid 2012 DA14, the space rock that will pass by Earth Friday, is in no danger of hitting the planet. But if it did, the damage would be extensive, Boslough said, with the White House-sized asteroid capable of snuffing out the entire Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.”
One can only imagine.
Is anyone really surprised that Michelle Obama was involved with the annual collective of self indulged celeb circle jerking? REALLY?
I’d be worried if the Obama’s weren’t a part of it.
I am more offended by the whole Oscar mess. Those idiots keep voting and promoting liberals and lecture us on liberal policies all the while the waste at the Oscars is atrocious. $50,000 swag bags.. C’mon liberals how many poor children could that feed, how many poor homeless could that shelter?
VoV – – If it’s any help, the main complaint was that McFarlane’s ‘humor’ was dated. Mel Gibson comments? Bobby Brown and Rihanna? Seriously? Those refer to years-old incidents. This guy was less topical – and funny- than an old Johnny Carson re-run.
You don’t have to imagine much, Ex-PH2. Just take a look at photos of Meteor Crater, Arizona.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Meteor_Crater_-_Arizona.jpg
The small black object at the top is a medium-sized parking lot. The thin black line leading to it is a paved road.
The crater is just short of 3/4 mile in diameter and is roughly 570 ft deep; the crater’s lip rises about 150 ft above the surrounding terrain. Impacting object is estimated to have been an iron-nickel meteor approx 160 ft in diameter.
I believe the object that passed by recently is about the same size, though possibly somewhat lighter if it was stony vice iron-nickel. It would thus probably produce a similar effect, or might disintegrate into an explosive fireball at altitude – thus enhancing its destructive effect (airbursts generally cause more damage due to a larger area covered by the blast).
The explosive energy released by the impact at Meteor Crater is estimated at about 10 megatons of TNT. In an urban area, it’s estimated that the resulting blast wave from such a blast would level pretty much everything within approx 3 miles of the impact and would severely damage or destroy most structures out to around 6 or 7 miles away, if I recall nuclear weapons effects projections from years ago correctly.
Mrs. B. Hussein 0bama living in the lap of taxpayer-supported luxury, doing her thing for the 0scars while using Vets as a backdrop, Vets whose benefits and pay her side is doing its best to gut while they go on every spending orgy they can! Watch that? I’d rather crawl naked through poison ivy after wallowing in broken glass and rubbing alcohol and eating a live grenade after being forced to blow King Kong!!
Hondo, I know. Berenger Crater fascinates me. I keep wondering how many mammoths got whacked by the shock wave from that thing when it smacked. The original owner thought there was iron ore in the earth because there is iron all over the place, but it’s from the detonation of that meteor some 50,000 years ago. No iron ore was ever found.
There are craters from nuke tests at the Nevada test site.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedan_(nuclear_test)
I think the Sedan crater was the largest of them.
Makes you think, sort of.
They are smiling because the Beast just farted something wicked fierce, you know health food will do that.
