Aside: This IS from Chicago? And I have read and re-read this article looking for a hint of irony.
High-capacity clips? Gun checks? Mass shootings? Slaughters like Newtown catch our fleeting attention, but they are only the daily gun death toll concentrated in one spot at one time. The problem is handguns.

Its my understanding that firearms rank as the number three cause of death in the United States. Swimming pools and automobiles kill more people than firearms.
If you don’t choose to own a firearm, don’t buy one. If you own one, be as expert as possible with it. However, I don’t see why I should be punished because someone else breaks the law.
Its all about control. Its not about hunting. Remember, kids, politicians prefer to deal with unarmed peasants.

OK, snark off. That column was the biggest bunch horse hockey I have ever seen in (digital) print. The irony is, these jack-offs can’t figure out why they (newspapers) are mostly teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. What can you expect? Armed good guy in a school in the most violent neighborhood of Atlanta when unarmed bad guy shoots –> one injury, no deaths of students, teachers or gunman/boy. No armed good guys in school in comfortable northeastern neighborhood when armed bad guy shoots —> dozens of children, teachers and gunman killed and injured.
And we DO NOT want to consider the possibility that armed good guys reduce deaths and injuries in schools? Sure, those are the people with sane solutions to the problem of violence in this country! Not.
The stupid prick that wrote that article is definitely full of himself, and would drool at the though of confiscation while he keeps his armed guards!

reminds me of an article in a local free “paper” i picked up to read while waiting on my food. someone that sounds alot like this guy wrote a very angry sounding story about how “traditional vales” ment straight white men coming home and beating their wife and kids and keeping minorities down. I propose an experiment…a highly publicized arming and training of citizens in the worst neighborhood in Chicago. I’m guessing that within a month, you’d see significant changes in the homicide rate and other criminal activity, with the obvious exception of a few cases where dumbasses will be dumbasses.
Not sure I’d select the worst neighborhood, Claymore – some/most of the really bad ones are likely populated with few who aren’t drug dealers, crackheads, or gangbangers. Not sure I want to give those groups any more freebies of any kind, much less firearms.
However, if you can find a neighborhood that has a reasonable population and is looking to clean up its act and become safer – then hell yes. I say lets give it a shot (yes, the pun was intentional).
Of course, the libidiot leadership in both Chicago and IL won’t. They know it will prove them wrong on this issue, so they won’t chance it. And law-abiding citizens will continue to die in droves because they’re denied the means to defend themselves against low-life criminals.
