The racist race

| February 1, 2013

Coca-Cola has released an ad pre-Superbowl called CokeChase, and perpetually outraged Arab Americans are…um…outraged about it;

From Reuters;

“The Coke commercial for the Super Bowl is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world,” Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email.

“What message is Coke sending with this?” asked Abed Ayoub, [American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee]’s director of legal and policy affairs. “By not including the Arab in the race, it is clear that the Arab is held to a different standard when compared to the other characters in the commercial,” he said.

CBS declined comment. Coca-Cola spokeswoman Lauren Thompson said Coke took a “cinematic” approach with the ad, employing the characters as a nod to movies of the past.

“Coca-Cola is an inclusive brand enjoyed by all demographics,” she said in an email. “We illustrate our core values, from fun and refreshment to happiness, inspiration and optimism across all of our marketing communications.”

Ayoub said ADC intended to contact Coke and CBS Corp on Thursday to “hopefully start a dialog.”

“I want to know why this happened and how can we fix this if possible before Sunday,” he said.

As a cowboy and former Vegas showgirl bus driver, I’m offended, too.

Oh, I’m sorry you were offended. Here is some bactine for the sting. Now wash it done with some hot STFU, OK?

TopGoz

Outrageous.
Only a stupid showgirl would try to drive a bus across the sand dunes. The ad is insulting to post-apocalyptic motorcycle riders as well, showing them as inept and easily thrown from their mounts.
Insulting.

Scubasteve

What if it’s just a teaser for an actual Superbowl commercial. What if the SB commercial shows them fighting for the next 50 miles? And when they get there, the Arab, who of course knows all the shortcuts and back trails through the desert has already drank the Coke.

What if the camel exploded and ended the race? Would they be happy then?

What if I actually gave a flying f**k about a commercial that is advertising a product that I’m not required to buy just because I see it?

What if….SQUIRREL!

A Proud Infidel

SCREW ‘EM, tell ’em to SUE ME, and if they get anything, I’ll split it with them!! (Mighty liberal of me, ain’t it?)

A Proud Infidel

On second thought, maybe they need to call 9-1-1-1-1-1-1 and have a WAAAAAHmbulance deliver them a group hug and a glass of Kool-Aid to drink while they sing Kum-ba-yah. SHIT, who ISN’T offended these days?

Hack Stone

The racist part is when they show the Arab planting IEDs along the road.

streetsweeper

Yea, I’m offended too. Shut your pie hole, Ayoub.

B Woodman

Not Coke’s fault that Ay-rabs like to ride camels, and that camels are one of nature’s more onrey creatures. Blame the Ay-rabs instead for making poor life decisions.

Badger

WHAT?!?! Arabs were offended by something? NOOOOOOO! No way! That’s just a bunch of crazy talk …

NRPax

Also, I thought Arabs hated Coke because they did business with Israel. So they are protesting a product that they don’t even drink?

Ex-PH2

It falls into the IDGAC* category. Also, IDGAS and IDGAF.

*I Don’t Give A Crap, etc., etc., etc.

Redacted1775

They love Coke over there…the cans anyways. Pack ’em full of enough HME and it’ll take a limb right off, or worse.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Sounds like a good reason to stock up on Coke, anything the IED planting sh1theads in the middle east don’t like is probably something fun, entertaining, intelligent, interesting or educational. All the things most of these 4ssholes are not….

Since the fall of the Egyptian Empire that part of the world has contributed zero to humanity, if they didn’t have oil they would still be living in tents riding camels around the desert following the rains.

There is no manufacturing in that part of the world, there is no innovation in that part of the world. There is only misery for multitudes and oppression of the citizenry. What’s to celebrate about a culture of that nature?

The rest of the world should be offended that these 4ssholes are even attempting to spread their brand of “culture” anywhere. Shooting girls in the face for seeking education, criminalizing rape victims, criminalizing showing your face in public for a woman, beating folks who don’t follow your extremist religious rules to the letter….humanity would be better served if this culture were eliminated from the face of the earth never to darken the horizon again.

Don’t like the commercial? Don’t buy Coke, and by the way, go f#ck yourselves and the camel you rode in on.

LittleRed1

Oh dear, I guess I’m waaaaacccist because I thought it was a great commercial.

Hondo

Now, that sounds like a good motto, Ex-PS2: “Idgac, idgas, idgaf.” Got a nice ring to it.

Seems I’ve heard something rather like it before, too. (smile)

USMCE8Ret

Why don’t we hear about the beef/cattle/farming industry (cowboys), the Vegas showgirl industry, or doomsday preppers (post-apocalyptic motorcyclists) protesting this!

BTW, the busload of Vegas showgirls used a gun that shoots confetti. (Now I find THAT objectionable).

Freakin’ ragheads are going to start attacking embassies now. (Oh wait!)

Ex-PH2

Hondo: Ta!

NRPax

@13: I respectfully disagree with you. The Middle East has given the world new and exciting ways to convert people into explosives and they are absolute geniuses when it comes to blaming everyone else for their shortcomings.

Sadly, we don’t have any way to isolate them from the rest of us. Hopefully that technology comes out soon.

Um Jonn-you drove this bus? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Priscilla,_Queen_of_the_Desert

Got something you want to tell us (NTTAWWT)?

ohio

I think the muzzies have a stack of forms with a lot of blanks like this:
If______________, kill them.
If______________, cut off their heads.
If______________, stone them.
etc, etc, etc, etc……………and they just keep making this crap up. Such narrow thinkers.

OWB

Translation: Ayoub said ADC intended to contact Coke and CBS Corp on Thursday to “hopefully start a dialog.” means “The shake down of Coke and CBS is coming.”

Coke may stand strong, but CBS has probably already caved.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@18 Nice!

NR Pax

@22: Thanks. I love breaking that out with liberal types. Their outraged screeching is like a symphony.

Hondo

Hey, folks – the Arab world is generally regarded as popularizing/regularizing both Arabic numbers and algebra. While both can be a bear to work with, they beat the hell out of what we had to work with before. (And yes, I know the roots of both predate the rise of the Arab Caliphate – but the Arab world did expand/codify the knowledge of both and introduce them to the West.)

Of course, that was back in the Middle Ages. Can’t think of much of value since then.

Just giving credit where credit is due.

Ex-PH2

And none of you watched the Polska Polar Bears?

NR Pax

@24: I believe the appropriate answer to that is “What have you done for me lately?” They may have helped with numbers, but it was Western Civilization (Emphasis on that last word) that put it to good use. -:-)

A_Proud_Infidel

What’s next, PETA bawling about Coca-Cola’s polar bear commercials?

Ex-PH2

I saw “Lawrence of Arabia”, then “Eldorado”, then “Mad Max Road Warrior”, and then “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”.

I’m disappointed that Hugo Weaving was not driving the bus.

Then I went to the Polska Polar Bears. What’s not to like?

Hondo

NR Pax: I believe that’s essentially what I said in comment 24, amigo.

In fairness, during much of the Middle Ages the Caliphates in general were probably more advanced and more tolerant than most of Europe. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve not made many advances since then, and have backtracked on the “tolerant” part.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@24 It’s been 1200 years since Al-Kwharizmi (sp?) and 1100 since Abu Khamil (sp?) if my history serves me right…so I kind of forgot that part.

If a millennium has passed since you last contributed to the world at large….

rb325th

Someone send Ayoub some tampax…

FatCircles0311

They are angry that the women shown were scantly dressed not oppressed or about to be executed because of Islamic law. I think the commercial should have been more realistic than fantasy then if Muslims wanted to complain they would have no standing.

USMCE8Ret

@18 posted: “…they are absolute geniuses when it comes to blaming everyone else for their shortcomings.”

Well, it seems that they have influenced our culture in a way – Sounds like the current administration.

Imagine that.

WigWam

@13 Yeah, with that line of thinking nothing is ever going to change in that part of the World. Reminds me of medieval Europe.

If there is no manufacturing in that part of the World, no industry, how will Iran ever create a nuclear weapon? It’s quite a compliment that the Israelis believe Iran is capable of such a feat. With all the lack of innovation and religious extremism wouldn’t they be preying to Allah to hand them a nuke?

All this talk of women and oppression is making you sound like a liberal. Their culture is one of a highly religious and conservative society. And not the like status-quo, PC “conservative” that the Republicans puppet either. If you know anything about American history, you’d know that women’s rights including suffrage, equal wage, and abortion were all the result of progressive movements during the early 20th century.

NHSparky

WigWam–because the Chinese and Russians are “helping” Iran build a nuke.
