Just a Glimpse

| January 23, 2013

My first choice is term limits, mind you, but this doesn’t suck.

The bill passed by the House today would withhold Congressional pay for members of the House and/or Senate should either chamber fail to adopt a budget resolution by April 15. Congress has not adopted a budget in more than 1,300 days.

This has been percolating here and there, but it seems to have passed a hurdle I thought insurmountable?

Okay,  it IS hard to picture the Pampered Princes (and Princesses)  on the Potomac actually abiding by this, let alone passing it into law, but it is fun to consider.

Compared to many of the things Congress will be asked to deal with during the next four years THIS is worthy of note. Imagine Congress voting to nullify an executive action concerning firearms?  Tongue firmly in cheek here.

I can dream can’t I?

Meh… this does nothing. Kommiefornia did this about 2 years ago and all they do now is pass an iflated budget that has no realistic chance of ever being solid so they can get paid. Then, when it doesn’t work out, they just go back and ammend it. There’s always a way around it and the politicians will certainly find that way.

Yeah, withholding pay and forfeiting it are entirely different things. They claim to be public servants but live like kings and queens. To many of these royals, their salaries are nothing more than chump change and tip money. Do you think cutting off the pinky of each is too harsh? Hot curling iron in the ear and nose? Yeah, maybe that’s a wee bit much but I, too, can dream.

In the last couple of days, this topic has been discussed with reference to the 27th Amendment. It’s murky for me, and I’ll enjoy reading any opinions on how one affects the other.

Having been exposed to politicians from a young age and being personally acquainted with some I can confidently state this is just another game. Like anonymous said, the largest majority are already millionaires so their ‘paycheck’ really doesn’t mean much. I do like the idea of cutting off body parts if the don’t actually do something.

Yes I think removal from office or stiff fines would work better thank taking away their play money.

Is there ony one of them that would even feel this, financially? Would any of them miss a mortagage payment? A rent payment? A MEAL?

I want these fuckers broke and hungry, damnit.

Unfortunately, all this kind of rule is going to do is erect yet ANOTHER barrier to entry for common folks to congress. I know I couldn’t afford to go without my salary for four months while my rich ass hat colleagues dicked around…this law would just help cement the rule of an aristocracy…

The exercise of withholding their pay is probably more as a message to the voters than for members of Congress. Sounds like a pretty good idea here – much better than most of their schemes.

I’m sorry. In cmt 2, I went Anonymous again. I wonder what’s what. I just switched to IE 9.

Within 4hrs Chuckie ” get the hell out of my way there’s a tv camera” Schumer said that the Senate was going to pass a budget after almost 4 years. See how easy that was? Take someone’s pay and you get results.

UpNorth

Yeah, I’ll believe the Senate will go along with this when Chuck-U Schumer passes up an opportunity to get his pic taken or he walks by a microphone without saying anything.

DaveO

It is BS. The 27th Amendment to the Constitution is fairly unambiguous – the Senators lose their pay starting in 2015.

Guess the GOP is scamming their base.

Mike

Ten thousand dollar a day fines for them not passing the budget

David

This will NEVER pass the Reid Senate.
