Some updates on David Gregory
Honestly, I think it’s absurd that David Gregory is being investigated for brandishing what appears to be a 30-round box magazine on the air while he was physically in the District of Columbia, not because of who he is, but rather because the law is stupid. According to Politico, he was warned by the DC police;
“NBC contacted [the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment,” Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman, said in an email. “NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated.”
But, I guess Gregory thought that his point was too important and that he is above the law, so yeah, he should be arrested. But the law is stupid. In Maryland, a loaded magazine in a vehicle is considered to be a loaded weapon even if there’s no weapon in a vehicle that can be attached to the magazine. That’s stupid but not as stupid as considering an unloaded magazine to be a loaded weapon.
Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post, on his own blog, the Daily Download, says that the anti-gun control crowd are out of control and that we should “Free David Gregory”;
Was it a stunt? Yep, and an eye-catching one. Was Gregory being aggressive with the NRA chief, or seeming to push gun control in a confrontational interview? All that is up for debate.
But a police probe over what I assume was an empty ammo clip is a total waste of time. What it demonstrates above all is that journalists are getting ensnared in the political war over gun control.
How about making it a crime for Joe Onthestreet getting arrested for the same thing, Howie? I didn’t see anyone in the media, besides Emily Miller at the the Washington Times, sticking up for the soldier who was transporting his weapons through the District in a perfectly legal manner.
Kurtz goes on to defend Piers Morgan, that idiot on CNN who thinks Americans still want to be ruled by England’s crown.
Even more absurd than a criminal inquiry into David Gregory is an effort by pro-gun enthusiasts to kick Piers Morgan out of the country. His crime? Carrying on a passionate crusade for gun control.
What’s more absurd is that gun control morons made rifles illegal to purchase because they have flash suppressors, bayonet lugs and pistol grips because they look scary – none of those things make the weapon more dangerous or more deadly.
In fact, I’d submit that the gun control crowd have been consistently more absurd about their agenda than the pro-gun folks have been in recent weeks. And the gun control crowd have been more persistent, for a very long time, to the point of being completely obnoxious about it.
The real problem is that law enforcement folks are reluctant to enforce the laws, because enough gun laws have been written so that legitimate and law abiding citizens can keep their guns and criminals can’t. So, yeah, I don’t think that Gregory should be arrested and charged, but only because the idiot laws written by Leftist gun grabbing fascists has gone too far, but as long as he broke the law, he should pay for it, however DC courts think he should.
And if Howard Kurtz doesn’t like that Gregory was arrested, he should work to change the law instead of blaming folks who had nothing to do with writing the law.
Category: Gun Grabbing Fascists
If Gregory’s point was that the law was stupid, I could care. But he was taking an anti gun position and denigrating gun owners as his thesis. So make him an example. Or, as they are likely to do grant him an exception.
At that point, will Sharpton, that jackass Rob Parker from ESPN, or any blackivists bemoan the unfairness in DC law enforcement?
So far, Gregory is only being investigated.
I did not see anything that said he’s actually been arrested, and frankly, unless he acquired the magazine himself, the person who got it for him is the one who should be charged.
There is a petition online at the White House website calling for Gregory to be charged. It has garnered 7,000+ signatures so far.
The gun control crowd either does not understand that prohibition does not work, or they choose to not understand. It didn’t work for booze. It doesn’t work for pot or meth or other controlled substances. It doesn’t work for black markets in prescription drugs. It doesn’t matter if it’s illegal; the laws stop nothing.
These are things that are illegal in Illinois:
Texting while driving
Cell phone use while driving
Driving under the influence
Driving without your seatbelt buckled
Shooting people driving on the highway
Drive-by shootings
Driving without a driver’s license
Driving with expired license plates
Driving with no insurance
People do them anyway. It just runs up insurance rates for the good drivers, and it doesn’t stop anything.
The liberal comments on the WAPO article are both hilarious and scary. Scary how warped some folks really are…National Gun Show this weekend. Place is sure to be packed. Hate crowds, but gotta go check it out: http://thenationsgunshow.com/ Cheers!
Charge his ass. If DCs laws are good for the goose, they are good for the anti-gun gander. I am pretty tickled that they have been forced into this predicament of selective enforcement for the elites or admitting their law is overly broad bullshit.
Repeal the fascist un-Constitutional law that he broke (but wants to see other law-abiding citizens prosecuted under), and none of us will be calling for him to spend a day in jail.
Oh, great, so now guns have cooties — anything that might remotely one day possibly be brought into contact with a gun is now a weapon. Including us, apparently…
@4 – That’s interesting.
There is a banner that says “DC Gun Ban is struck down by the Supreme Court!!!”
Further investigation?
Hell, I’d even be OK with calling off the PR dogs and letting the issue fade away if he comes out on Meet the Press this Sunday, honestly states that he’s seen the error of his ways on this issue, and tells the viewers why it’s a stupid law.
Gregory isn’t above the law, no matter whether we think it’s a stupid law, or not (and we do; me included). If it was me, they wouldn’t hesitate to throw my dumb ass in the jug; so what’s so special about him?
Can we trade D.C. to the British? I say we give them D.C. in exchange for Manchester City! GO MAN U! They can keep Man City. I’d be willing to throw in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia to get rid of the in-bred, brain dead retards that occupy the District of Curmudgeons!
What do you call someone who breaks a stupid law? A lawbreaker. What do you call someone who is charged with breaking a stupid law? The defendant.
At the risk of overstating the obvious: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
“I did not see anything that said he’s actually been arrested, and frankly, unless he acquired the magazine himself, the person who got it for him is the one who should be charged.”
Nope. Gregory possessed the mag on TV. Good enough for charges.
I heard somebody say it didn’t matter because the mag wasn’t loaded. lol, if it was loaded he’d be looking at two charges: one for the mag, one for the ammo.
Here’s a statistic for mortality rates:
10 million people who did not wear their seatbelts have been killed in car accidents in the past 15 years.
That’s a lot.
“NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was DENIED [caps mine].”
That’s pretty funny. “Excuse me, I represent NBC and I’d like to know if we may have your department’s permission to break the law.”
The ultimate in irony…gun-grabbers being charged with breaking laws they helped to put into place.
Now it’s being reported that after DC shot them down, they turned to the ATF who then gave their blessing to use the mag and then apparently called DC police who then gave their blessing as well. So now the police can just say to go ahead and ignore that law. WTF?
What I’ve learned is that there are many people who are totally afraid of guns…all guns. The black military looking guns scare them the most. You know, like the little kids who are afraid of the circus clowns. Well, it’s the same sort of fear…it involves clowns. They are so afraid of guns, they will do anything to reduce this fear—even if it means taking guns away from good citizens.
but the gun clowns don’t know that then only the evil forces would have guns then…because the crooks already break the laws and don’t care if they break another one by having guns.
I have been blessed with a wife who is smart enough to know why I carry, and also smart enough to know she shouldn’t. She understands the principle, and has been very good about learning firearm safety and how to shoot, but states she doesn’t think she could ever pull the trigger on someone.
That being said, she has expressed fear of one firearm I own. It’s a little 2 shot .22LR derringer that I used to use for SASS side matches. Her problem with it is it looks too much like a toy. She prefers guns to be big and scary.
To be fair to us tea drinking royalists, Piers Morgan is working in the United States because he is so widely despised in the UK that he can’t get a job here. The petition in the USA for Mr Morgan to leave is matched by one in the UK for him to not be allowed back in.
Having said that you could do a lot worse than being ruled by Her Maj. I’d take her over any President you’ve ever had. Remember that the privilege of being a Commonwealth Realm is only ever one severed head away. :p
@21
At least our Presidents leave every 4-8 years; we aren’t stuck with them for life.
In the US we (well some of us anyways) look at disarming the populace as one step toward a return to a monarchy or dictatorship
@22
I agree with you on gun control, I wish we had the Second Amendment and your self defence laws over here in the UK. The present political situation in the US has taught me to respect the foresight of your Founding Fathers.
I was joking about you becomming a Commonwealth Realm. We aren’t “stuck” with the Queen though. She has dedicated her entire life to embodying our national virtues and culture and she has always put her duty to her people before herself. We really mean it when we sing God Save the Queen.
@23
I know what you mean. I like your queen and most of your Royals. Unlike our political elite they do tend to lead by example. Military service is expected of them and most of them comply admirably.
Unlike our “leaders” they do seem to realize that with great privledge comes great obligations.
That is where we differ culturally. You guys seem to love and trust your leaders. We are suspicious of ours.
@25 Yes, but we can always fire them.
I like the Queen too. She’s so darn polite.
@25 The majority of British people love and trust the Royal Family because they have demonstrated that they deserve our love and trust. We despise our politicians because they have shown themselves to be despicable.
I think it is a brilliant illustration of the idiocy of some of the laws and how easy the authorities can take advantage of an action with absolutely no criminal intent. I know if I had the mag on a street corner, the D.C. police would have no problem making me miserable for months, regardless of my intentions.
longtabsigo Says: If Gregory’s point was that the law was stupid, I could care.
Yep, imagine if Wayne Lapierre or Ted Nugent went on a news show where they were invited to talk about the gun laws and, to make a point about the fact that a magazine itself is not dangerous, brought the same capacity magazine that Gregory did. Think the MF-ing media would be circling the wagons around the NRA or Ted Nugent? Not a chance.
The situation is simple… this is SOP for the Left: “the end justifies the means”. The Left is all in favor of breaking laws (or lying, or misleading, etc), so long as it leads to their desired outcome.
And they keep using this SOP, because it works. The majority of the American public is made up of apathetic, ignorant sheep, who believe any and all lies from the Democrat Party and MF-ing media. They will continue to lie and break laws and consider themselves above consequences, until the majority of the American public wakes up and holds them accountable.
The problem is we had the chance to do so last month and we didn’t. So, of course the media, Democrat Party and Obama know they can do anything they want and get away with it, because the American people do not punish them at all.
Elections have consequences. We’re all going to find that out with massive tax hikes, lousy Obamacare, never-ending high unemployment, possible stricter gun control laws, possible 2-3 radical left-wing justices added to the SCOTUS… and all that goes wrong over the next 4 years will be blamed on the GOP, conservatives, radical right-wing gun-nuts and, of course, ‘RACISM!!!’
Gonna be a looong four years…
@30 I agree with almost everything you said, except your very last statement. You don’t wait four years to call the fire department when your house is burning. I would hope we would have better sense than to wait four years to try to fix the mess we are very much in right now.
Michael in MI, I don’t know what you could possibly be referring to. President Obama has promised that he would have the most transparent administration. Other than the Secretary of The EPA resigning for phantom email accounts, Hilary Clinton going into the Witness Protection program, compiling a kill list of American citizens overseas, citing Executice Privilage in the Fast & Furious scandal, and a few other incidents, he has been tranparent. Besides, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.
(That was sarcasm, in case no one got it)

Well, in all seriousness, I’m not sure what we do between now and 2016. The only recourse we have as citizens against a government (both Parties) which cares nothing for the desires/needs/wants of its citizens is to vote the bastards out of office (and we blew that opportunity last month). Since we can’t vote these bastards out of office until 2016 (some we can vote out in 2014, but not the key influential players in the Administration), I’m not sure what other option we have.
Sure, I shall be taking care of myself financially and planning accordingly for tax hikes, inflation, recession/depression, etc. But as far as fixing the mess, there’s not much we can do.
The Democrats, including Obama, are intent on transforming this nation into a socialist utopia, while the Republicans are a bunch of worthless, spineless amoebas. Meanwhile, the media has fully become a propaganda arm of the Democrat Party and Obama Administration.
Other than taking care of ourselves financially and working over the next 4 years to talk some sense into the apathetic, ignorant sheep whose votes we need to turn things around, not sure what we can do.
Hack Stone Says: Michael in MI, I don’t know what you could possibly be referring to. President Obama has promised that he would have the most transparent administration.
Heheh. Let’s not forget the transparency he showed in the Obamacare negotiations and the fact that he promised all legislation would be online and available to the public for 5 days prior to him signing any of it into law.
Geez, we could probably write an entire book detailing all the broken promises the SCOAMF has made since his 1st inauguration. Of course, I’m sure the book would immediately be deemed ‘RAAAACIST!!!’
Okay, in case someone hasn’t brought it up yet:
If David Gregory was a black kid and pulled that shit, he’d be UNDER the jail right about now.
As a conservative California native, I feel obligated to respond to an earlier post about trading us to England. Most counties in California are conservative and generally pro-gun, including my own county of San Diego. The problem is the communist enclaves of LA, Berkely (F*** THAT PLACE) and the gay bay. Please don’t judge us all based on them. I conclude with the statement I give to people who make such assumptions:
Yes, I’m from Southern California
I don’t surf
I don’t smoke pot
I don’t live at the beach
I have no connection whatsoever to Hollywood
I don’t buy into new-age humanist agnostic BS religions
I avoid Starbucks like the Goddamn plague
I visit the beach once a year (maybe) to make sure they didn’t move it
I drive a Ford truck
I work a full-time job for a living (firefighter, if anybody’s curious)
I vote republican
I love greasy cheeseburgers
I live in a town where the elevation exceeds the population
I’m a believing Catholic who goes to church
I hunt deer in the fall
I own more guns than you do (including some scary evil “military” rifles)
I hope this clears things up. Anyway, this guy is an elitist assbag just like Piers Morgan or Chris Matthews. I say jam his ass up, THEN repeal DC’s retarded law.
I say, “Welcome Aboard” to “The Other Whitey”.
That’s some good trash!
Thank you. Glad to be here!
