Movie Shooting stopped by off duty cop.
Well it seems that the copycats are out again. This time it is my hometown of San Antonio. The shooter managed to wound at least two people before he was shot by a off duty cop.
Two people were wounded late Sunday when gunfire erupted at a local movie theater, sending panicked moviegoers rushing to exits and ducking for cover, police and witnesses said.
A lone suspect was in custody after being wounded by an unidentified law enforcement officer, a Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
Also it seems that the theater was not the original target and was not random.
According to reports, the gunman’s original target was a China Garden Restaurant where he was employed.
Officials say the man was looking for a female co-worker, and when he learned she wasn’t there, he produced a gun. The weapon jammed when he tried to fire it in the restaurant, and some of the patrons fled across the parking lot and into the nearby theater.
Also there is something else that makes this worse.
The shooting occurred last night at about 9:25 p.m. at the Santikos Mayan 14 movie theater during a showing of “The Hobbit.”
One person with proper training in the right place can prevent any number of tragic events. Why do we continue to dispute this.
Doc, it’s because ‘they’ can rationalize that since nobody was massacred, then saying that they would have been is now only speculation and adds nothing to the argument, so therefore it must be dismissed as proof. Only when there’s bodies everywhere can there be a rational argument.
Or ‘they’re’ in denial because the facts don’t support their argument. I like this one better.

It’s because guns are scary and they don’t mind trading your essential freedoms for their temporary security.
Only wounded before being taken into custody? Thats . . . unfortunate.
Yeah, that sounds harsh. Tough. Anyone who’d attempt mass murder like that deserves to begin the eternal dirtnap immediately.
We were told by the lefties that someone shooting back at a gunman in a movie theater would only kill more innocent people. We all know that they are the free thinkers, the party of science and enlightenment, and therefore must not be questioned.
Clearly, there is only one explanation: the gunman’s gun turned on him, because guns are evil. That off-duty cop must’ve shot the other people while attempting to fire back.
See, this is why I don’t go to movie theaters any more. You never know who is going to come in with a bad cold or a gun.
Good job by the cop. Happens a lot in Chicago, not at theaters, but everywhere.
The late George Carlin had an observation years ago that’s relevant: “Off duty cop shot by on-duty criminal.”
Here, that wasn’t the case. But it often is. And it’s not always an of-duty cop who gets shot by the on-duty criminal. Often a cop – on- or off-duty – isn’t anywhere nearby.
Bare hands against a gun ain’t good odds.
@7 “Bare hands against a gun ain’t good odds.”
And the cops really don’t like those spring loaded knives in private hands….so leave me with my revolver and all will be well…
This is exactly why I exercise my CCL. I rarely leave home without my friends, Mr. Heckler and Mr. Koch.
I can only hope that I react effectively if I;m ever in that situation.
Strange that Joey shows up only on selected threads? I think not. This clearly doesn’t fit with Joey the Rock-Climbing Hero’s(h/t Hondo)view of what the world is really like, so he skips it. After all, this was merely a disagreement between two evil guns, the less evil gun won.
I went to Clackamas Town Center with some friends this past weekend to see The Hobbit (yes, that’s the mall in Oregon). I was carrying my M1911A1. A state trooper, surprisingly, noticed it under my jacket (over-sized military flight jacket) and asked very cautiously to see my CCW. I very cautiously showed it to her along with my ID.
When she saw that I was a vet, she relaxed and asked me about the pistol. We talked for a while before the movie. She thanked me for my service and for carrying. Even she knew that her presence was only as a “first-target” for any shooter.
I have never drawn my pistol on anyone and pray to the Lord that I never will have to. However, I am well trained and well disciplined and know that if the situation does arise, I will be able to protect myself and others.
LEO’s carry guns for THEIR protection, not ours – but may use it if the need arises, such as in the report commented on here. Their job after all, is to enforce the law, and through the peformance of their duties, have to deal with all sorts of people (crazed and not so crazed).
Which is the same reason I have a CCW as well, to protect myself – should the need arise… but I’m not wringing my hands to use it as some people think.
@11 – Glad to hear the state trooper was receptive to you after you showed you were in compliance. Folks open carry around here, and the cops are getting used to it.
And I’m sure the trolls from the other day will come right on over here to apologize for being, well, TROLLS.
@11 What’s a state trooper doing in suburban shopping mall? Why do they need to bring in state police? I’m sure the local police can handle walking around and looking tough. After all, do they really think another person will come and the shoot the place up again?
