AFRICOM to have QRF
So I guess that the administration decided that with the Arab Spring still bubbling beneath the surface and with our embassies in the danger zone…and, oh, yeah that whole Benghazi thing…they need some armed troops to pull their fat from the political fire, so General Carter Ham, the commander of AFRICOM announced that they’ll now have a Quick Reaction Force according to Stars & Stripes;
In response to a question during a recent speech at George Washington University, AFRICOM boss Gen. Carter Ham said his command is now outfitted with a new capability.
“With regard to a response force, when the command was initially formed there was a sharing arrangement with what’s called the Commander’s in-Extremis Force with European Command. That was a good relationship that up until the 1st of October of this year was a shared arrangement,” Ham said. “And now we have our own.”
While AFRICOM says the unit will be based in Fort Carson — home to the 10th Special Forces Group — it is more likely that the team of operators will spend most of its time forward-deployed in Africa, according to a recently retired Green Beret who served on multiple Commander’s in-Extremis units.
It seems to me that someone would have come to that conclusion a year or more ago. I mean, it’s not like this is the first time our embassies in the region have been attacked.

No Screaming Eagle Sh-t!!!! How long has AFRICOM been around? Just NOW they decide to stand up a QRF? What the fu-king, f-ck?!!
Wait a minute. I thought (from Blackfive, IIRC) AFRICOM already had a CIF team based at Stuttgart?
The old Commander was too busy running his wife to shopping sprees and days spas on our dime to worry about his Day job.
He also had to run back and forth to the states to pad is Golden Parachute into the dreaded private sector.
4 star COCOMs are NEVER denied assets, and GEN Ham had F-16s, F-18s, armed drones, and a JSOC team only a hop skip away in Sigonella. All GEN Ham needed to deploy these QRF assets was the execute order to proceed from the President…why GEN Ham was ordered to stand down is something the Congressional Republicans are still trying to unravel – all reports indicate force availability was NOT the issue. Idiotic dog and pony exibition to deflect blame away from the sorry ass POS messiah.
I was about to say…. when this whole thing blew up, everyone was saying the US already had QRF force in place somewhere in Europe, if by another name, and that it was told to stand down. Why is this only being mentioned in the comment thread?
@4 – I’m wondering how (or if) the whole “stand down” thing will play out.
@5 – You ask, “Why is this only being mentioned in the comment thread?” The only response I can give you is because, sadly, it’s not being discussed anywhere else.
Does it seem ironic only to me that AFRICOM has a Gen HAM in charge of Satan’s Great (U S) Army in a continent dominated by 7th century Muslims??
