James R. Albertson: What His Military Records Say

| December 14, 2012

Remember James R. Albertson?  You know, that guy Jonn wrote about last month who claimed he was a secret POW in Vietnam for 28 days, and who had received multiple Purple Hearts and a couple of Bronze Stars for “bravery”?  And whose son claimed his missions were “classified” – so presumably that’s why he doesn’t show up on any POW lists?

Well, NPRC’s reply to a FOIA request concerning Albertson’s official records came in the mail the other day.  And it turns out there’s a different reason he’s not on any POW lists.

His military records show no service in Vietnam.  None.  Zip.  Nada.

His records also show no Purple Hearts or Bronze Stars – with or without “V” device.   In fact, Albertson’s records show no personal decorations of any kind.  The only decorations he received were one service medal (NDSM) and one unit award (AFOUA).

Albertson served in the USAF from March 1966 to January 1969.  He was retired for “physical disability”.  His duty assignments were for training; then as a medical service specialist; an “R&S Clerk”; and a “duty status clerk”.  His duty stations were Lackland AFB (training), Sheppard AFB (more training), and Athenai Airport, Greece (medical clinic and support group staffs).  Sometime in late 1968 or early 1969, he returned to Scott AFB – where he was medically retired.

Greece was Albertson’s sole overseas assignment.  For the benefit of those who might be severely geographically-challenged:  “Greece” and “Vietnam” ain’t exactly the same place.  (smile)

NPRC’s reply to the FOIA on Albertson’s records can be found here; format is Adobe PDF.

It’s sad when folks lie to their families about being some kind of “great war hero”.  Their surviving families invariably end up hurt badly when their lies are exposed after their demise.

But what’s even worse is that this liar was able to get away with falsely claiming to be a Vietnam POW for years.

Sadly, not the first, won’t be the last.

“Greece” and “Vietnam” ain’t exactly the same place.

I don’t know… socialists have taken over Greece and they’re lighting police officers on fire in the streets. I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather be in Vietnam right now.

I never cease to be amazed by these stories, the number of MOH, SEAL, SF, RANGER claims that are all entirely bullsh1t is astonishing. We seem to be producing jerkoff liars at amazing rates these days….and now this man’s son will think his dad a liar for the rest of his life….how utterly sad and avoidable all of this is…especially when people have honorable service records…. Hondo, do you think these guys are able to get away with it for so long because 99.2 percent of the population doesn’t serve or, as many of my colleagues here point out to me, most folks don’t really care in spite of their words to the contrary? I have a hard time with politicians who are proven liars, and I struggle with the idea that most voters don’t seem to care that they continually re-elect liars with no concern about the liar’s character. Bill Clinton is considered by many (not me certainl) to have been a very good president and he is clearly a liar in fact and deed….one of the most popular shows on TV is a reality game show that places people on an island where they are encouraged to lie and deceive each other to win a million dollars, and the show has tens of thousands of people trying to get on to be a liar on national TV….you could almost argue that celebrity liars, and lying politicians are people that our society through the media promote as ideals. Many of our fellow citizens thus aspire to be just like their drug addled, lying celebrity heroes… With the SCOTUS decision that being a liar is not a crime in and of itself, I think most of these guys are successful at this for so long because nobody checks unless they bump into someone affiliated with this group or others like it…. I am at a loss about all of this, my dad was simple man who worked construction his entire life. He had a saying about doing deals with a handshake, “if a man’s word ain’t worth sh1t neither is… Read more »

Of course his records don’t show VN service…it was classified TS/SCI(squirrel). He was based out of Greece to hide his movements to/from Nam and his Clerking was also a cover. Anyone knows this. /S

If his blog posts and comments here are any indication, I kinda doubt it.
