Congress wants investigation into Benghazi

| November 18, 2012

Despite what Harry Reid says, at least one Democrat Senator wants answers into why this administration changed the intelligence from the CIA to fit their story. From the Associated Press;

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who heads the Senate Intelligence Committee, said she too has lingering concerns about how the talking points were created when it was clear early on that the military-style assault wasn’t a simple protest gone awry.

She said Congress has asked the administration to provide an explanation.

“We gave the direction yesterday that this whole process is going to be checked out,” said Feinstein, D-Calif. “We’re going to find out who made changes in the original statement. Until, we do I really think it’s unwarranted to make accusations.”

Meanwhile, on Twitter, the administration wishes that Republicans would just get over it. They don’t understand why Republicans are so concerned about Benghazi now that the election is over;

It was just over a month ago when Obama deputy campaign manager and lying liar Stephanie Cutter got the ball rolling, declaring that the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in Libya was only an issue because Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan insisted on politicizing it — a claim that seems even more outrageous in light of the “French kiss” of a third presidential debate.

Confronted yesterday with a question about Benghazi, Democratic Party Communications Director Brad Woodhouse replied by tweeting simply, “We won.” And yet the hearings continue, even though Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid yesterday smacked down the proposal of a Senate select committee. His reasoning? “The elections are over; it is time to put aside the partisan politicization of national security.”

Yeah, “We won” worked so well for the Obama Administration in the last term…so, please try to hide behind it again. “Americans died, Obama lied” will look so good on bumper stickers during the mid-terms. Maybe most of us didn’t really give a rat’s ass about the campaign and were more concerned that four good Americans (three of them veterans) lost their lives and we want answers about how that could happen in this day and age. Especially in light of the warnings to Washington from the consulate that this might happen.

And I don’t remember the Left shutting up about Abu Ghraib after the 2004 election. Or Scooter Libby, or Valerie Plame, or how much other crap did they try to use against Bush that election.

John McCain, a day late and a dollar short as usual, came to the conclusion that the Benghazi thing hurt the Obama campaign’s narrative;

“The narrative of the president is ‘I got Bin Laden, and al-Qaida is [o]n the run,’ but al-Qaida is not on the run, and is making a strong comeback all over the Middle East,” McCain said on CBS’s Face the Nation. “This may interfere with that narrative.”

McCain said he would allow any nominee to lead the State Department “the benefit of the hearing process,” including top contender U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. Rice has come under fire for initially saying the Benghazi attack was the result of a spontaneous protests, rather than a planned terrorist attack.

So, it’s a cover-up on par with the Watergate cover-up. Well, except in this case they’re covering up the circumstances surrounding the deaths of four good Americans (three of whom were veterans). And just because the administration covered it up for political reasons doesn’t mean that we want answers for political reasons. We want answers because those three veterans and their families deserve answers.

Feinstein’s call for an investigation is a feint.

She wants something, like maybe another sweetheart deal for her husband (contracted to renovate Walter Reed back in 2001-3 – we know how THAT went).

Or to twist arms to ensure California gets FULLY bailed out.

More than likely, once she gets what she wants, she’ll pull the rug out from under the other senators and say the TEA Party done it.

OWB

Are these idiots ever going to just shut up and do their jobs? I don’t give a flip if the fools who decided to leave Americans unprotected were political atheists, running for office somewhere, or otherwise employed. All we want to know is who signed the death warrants for these Americans.

I also understand that who made up the stupid story about the video is only significant if it leads to who is responsible for the deaths.

The inmates really are running the asylum these days. It is way past time for the clowns in Congress to grow up and do what they are being paid to do. We have let them skate freely around acting foolish for entirely too long.

2-17 Air Cav

Get used to it, OWB. Too many otherwise good people stayed home election day. The inmates have been duly elected and are fully authorized to run the asylum.

OWB

And it will continue to get worse until folks at the local level decide to fix their own voting irregularities. Much of it must be done long before election day because by then it is too late. If they do not already have a plan in place to do something about busloads of folks being brought in to vote, for instance, then there will never be a fair count. When they decide to actually count the votes.

OWB Says: I also understand that who made up the stupid story about the video is only significant if it leads to who is responsible for the deaths.

The video excuse still pisses me off. Why doesn’t/hasn’t anyone gone on the news shows to make the point about… let’s say that Christian mobs across the country rioted at movie theaters, taking hostages and killing the managers of the movie theaters… over the previews they saw for The Da Vinci Code. Wouldn’t it then follow that we would have to arrest Tom Hanks for daring to make such an offensive movie against the beliefs of Christians?

Or, what if the same thing happened across the country at art museums, with Christians rioting at museums across the country, taking hostages and murdering the caretakers of those museums… over the showing of Piss Christ. Wouldn’t it then follow that we would have to arrest the artist for daring to make such an offensive piece of “art” against the beliefs of Christians?

This is the core of the whole issue, and people are just blowing it off. But this is the heart of the matter. It goes back to Koran burning (instead of blaming Muslims for their violence in response to Koran burning, those who burn the Koran are said to be the evil doers) and the Fort Hood mass murder (instead of stating that radical Islam is a problem when they mass murder innocents, the leader of the US Army stated that it would be a worse tragedy to lose our “diversity” in the military). Excuse after excuse is made for Muslims’ violence. And this nation — and the West in general — keeps appeasing Muslims’ radical behavior. As a result, we are encouraging them to continue.

We cannot keep ignoring the elephant in the room here: Islam… and this nation’s appeasement of it and continual encouragement of violence perpetrated by its adherents.

Yes, we get it–and that includes OWB. Check out the TAH comments from the very day of the Benghazi horror story. No one is buying the Oprah-like sideshow of General P and 30,000 emails and I suspect that Madam Feinstein has an ulterior motive, as DaveO suggests. BUT–and here is the BIG BUTT–this crappola is evidently what more than half of the voters want. Feinstein, Reid, Pelosi, obama and the rest of the clowns got their jobs the same way. More people voted for them than voted for their opponents. Again, congratulations America!

DaveO

California has significant financial issues, and with the Inmates In Charge in the Asylum, California’s debt and obligations may eclipse America’s debt.

There has been talk about the Dems forcing the country to go over the Fiscal Cliff. For Obama and the Dems the Fiscal Cliff is a win-win. Over half of America voted for Obama, either because they are true believers, or they are too scared. What we will see, if the cliff is reached, is a social experiment in Anarchism as governing philosophy. Plus, all the press except some shows on Fox News are primed and ready to blame the GOP, with the FCC prepared to shut down the blogosphere to stop criticism.

What this means for California, if the Hollywood Tax Cuts remain in place, is that the remaining non-Hollywood, non-State & local government economy will be overstressed. This may lead to an increased exodus. Then what?

OWB, it is Feinstein’s job to take care of California, especially now that it is safely a Dem stronghold. By getting the rest of America to bail out California, the state will live to vote again in spite of having no true economy.

As an aside, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Feinstein wouldn’t do this if she didn’t believe there is enough truth to give her leverage. Reid will give her what she wants because he doesn’t want to lose the her and her clique’s votes to remain Senate Majority Leader. He’ll shut it down after she gets what she wants.

OWB

I understand your frustration, Michael. The reality is that while understanding Islam may be a part of developing an appropriate strategery, it really doesn’t matter in the most fundamental of defenses. When someone is shooting at you, does it matter if they are 42-year blonde Methodists or 18-year old Buddhists with red hair? Not really. You try to kill whoever it is that is trying to kill you.

This is not complicated. Some just love to obfuscate every little thing. It must make them feel all good about themselves or something equally irrelevant to our collective survival.

2-17 Air Cav

Hey Michael. You are not responsible for this but Minnesota isn’t exactly a bastion of economic or political conservativism. The late Senator Wellstone, a crazed progressive, was elected and re-elected by Minnesotans. And much more recently, that guy obama trounced Romney there. The peoples have spoken and apparently they don’t give a damn.

The way I read it, Feinstein wants an investigation into who changed this report and why, NOT an investigation into everything surrounding Benghazi

As someone who doesn’t see a scandal in Benghazi, but also wants to know how the intelligence picture was synthesized, this seems like a perfectly reasonable thing.

Nik

“Plus, all the press except some shows on Fox News are primed and ready to blame the GOP, with the FCC prepared to shut down the blogosphere to stop criticism.”

Pfft. If the FCC tries that, it will be an unmitigated disaster.

Ex-PH2

Where is this “shut down the blogosphere” coming from? A diseased wit? That would require shutting down the entire internet, resulting in canceling all electronic transactions and electronic communications. Oh, my god — we’d be back in the days of land lines and CB radios and teletype communications. Is that what you’re talking about, and just how long do you think people would put up with it? Just exactly how long do you think that would last? Huh?

Or have you never seen the power of a mob of very angry people? If not, then try to find some of the news reports from the riots and arson in London, England, last year, where entire neighborhoods were burned out by mobs. Ditto the riots by so-called disenfranchised Arab youths in the outskirts of Paris two years ago.

And while you’re at it, try to give the paranoia a rest.

Nik

@12

Even IF the FCC were foolish enough to try that, there’s a ton of (legal) ways around it.

Ex-PH2

@13 – Yeah, no kidding. Isn’t someone else’s paranoid delusions kind of fun?

2-17 Air Cav Says: The peoples have spoken and apparently they don’t give a damn.

Yeah, I know. I’m resigned to that fact (current population of America just doesn’t give a damn about anything other than free abortions and Obamaphones).

My last comment was just a rant of frustration. Ever since the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001, this nation — and the West in general — have bent over backwards to appease the violent adherents of Islam. And here we are 12 years later wondering why our appeasement has done nothing, but encourage them to keep hating us and keep killing us. Doesn’t occur to the majority of people (not present company) that the problem is Islam itself.

So I guess my frustration is that this Benghazi thing *should* be a big deal to everyone, considering that it’s yet *another* case where Muslims go batshit crazy and riot and murder over something. That’s the core issue. Then, in addition to that, we have issues of the kidnapping and murder of our Ambassador, the lack of security, the deaths of four Americans, the cover-up and lying about this terrorist attack perpetrated by al Qaeda and then the accusations of racism and sexism against anyone who dares ask questions about the whole fiasco. And this is even before we get into the connection with Petraeus’ testimony and adultery scandal.

There was something there for everyone to care about, yet, as people have already mentioned, the American public spoke on 11/06 and their statement on this was: don’t give a damn.

Anonymous

@15: “There was something there for everyone to care about, yet, as people have already mentioned, the American public spoke on 11/06 and their statement on this was: don’t give a damn.”

I’ll play Devil’s Advocate for a moment since I was just discussing this very thing with someone who, you’re correct, ‘doesn’t care’. And the reason isn’t that he hates the country or whatnot, it’s because he a) he has no direct connection to anyone lost in 9/11 or serving in the military and b) sees in his job (doctor) countless people dying from things we could ‘fight against’ but don’t invest in to the extent that we have in terms of fighting terrorism.

We’ve spent anywhere between $1T – $3+T, have over 50K wounded from the wars, and haven’t ‘ended’ terrorism or made unquestionable progress, after losing nearly 3000 on 9/11. Yet he says we lose nearly 550,000 PER YEAR to cancer, and the entire yearly budget for the National Cancer Institute is somewhere around $5B. That IS pretty skewed, and if our reasoning is, “Well, they attacked us!”, that’s not good enough.

What’s the proper response to that? I certainly didn’t have a solid one. Point being, people can be completely rational and ‘not give a damn’ about some goat-fuckers being dickheads for whatever irks them in day to day life.

@16

My wife died of cancer and doing the process I discovered that the doctors knew no more in 2007-2008 then they did in 1978 about cancer doing that time I am sure alot of money was aloted for cancer research, what the fuck did they (doctors) do with it? Ask your doctor friend that!!! Also I discovered how hospitals keep high sucess rates in cancer if you are to high of a risk they just tell you there is nothing they can do and send you to another hospital so you don’t count against their numers.

rb325th

@16… Your doctor “friend” needs to take another look at what happened on 9/11. Just because he knows no one who died that day, or who is in the military who has died, or in the military at all… God what truly pathetic reasons, honestly I am just dumbfounded by the complete idiocy of that.
The people who died on 9/11 could have been anyone of us here in the US had different targets been picked, had circumstances been different, but the fact is it was an attack on ALL of US not just those who died that day. Those in the military who fight, are wounded or killed doing so are doing it on his damned behalf as well!
The fact that his special interest is not funded enough by government is meaningless. Cancer sucks, no doubt… but guess the fuck what! There is nothing in the US Constitution mandating we fund even one f’ing bit of any healthcare program anywhere. Defense is mandated by the US Constitution.
If not for those men and woman out there fighting and dying on all of our behalf over the past couple of centuries we would not even be worrying about cancer research. We would not have some of the best healthcare in the world, care that people from all over the world who can come here to enjoy.
So tell your selfish friend to stop and think next time he runs his pie hole complaining we spend too much on defense. In other countries he would not have that right either. We do because of those men and woman he does not know, and those who attacked and killed the people he did not know on 9/11 (and continue to do so today) do not give a rats ass about him, his job, or his desire to see an end to cancer. They want him dead too.

USMCE8Ret12

Sadly I predict that little will be done in getting solid answers on the Benghazi debacle, as those in DC simply don’t have the intestinal fortitude in looking past their own agendas and seeing the situation for what it is. When Romney asked early on about Benghazi (and the press coined it as “politicizing” it, he was only asking the same questions the rest of us have. I remain hopeful, but believe this will be brushed under the carpet and no one will be held accountable. That’s a sad state of affairs for for Chris Stevens and the other Americans who perished, and for this country.

OWB

Yeah. What #18 said.

Yeah. What #20 said.

The “me” generation is, what, 40-45 now? And that’s what we have all over this country: me, my, and mine. Self sacrifice is old hat. Self denial is ridiculous. Read the Bible or break out the Constitution at the kitchen table for a good, old-fashioned family discussion? Don’t be silly. What’s in it for me? What do I get out of it? It’s not fair that he has money and I don’t. I’m a victim!

I could go on but what’s the point? The USA is changed and there appears to be only one thing that will alter it for the better: a miracle or a disaster (including man made ones!)of epic proportions. Then, and only then will people realize that there are certain things which cannot be debated or put to a vote, or for which Dr. Phil, the NY Times, or MTV has any answers. It’s sad but I am convinced of it. What hope I had for a common sense, democratic return to traditional American values, independence, and exceptionalism was extingusished earlier this month. So, the circle gets smaller and I, like many here, associate with only certain folks because, quite frankly, I have less and less in common with all others.

Twist

Thanks for adding the “minus those” part. I do not associate myself with the “me generation”.

2-17 Air Cav

I thought that went without saying so I didn’r say it. The “greatest generations” was also peppered with cowards, charlatans, and other miscreants. I suppose I had better qualify everything. I had hoped it wasn’t necessary here.

Here we go, a perfect example of America in 2012. A whorehouse owner in Nevada was just elected county commissioner. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/11/19/brothel-owner-elected-commissioner-rural-nevada-county/

Veritas Omnia Vincit

I always thought the “boomers” were the me generation which means those of us born between 1948-1962. The greatest generation were our parents who rid the world of evil perpetrated by three nations across the entire globe.

Boomers are the generation that altered the status of the family from couple-centric to child-centric, we now worship our kids to the demise of the family. The result is a bunch of mostly lazy, unmotivated, slackers who live at home until they are in their late 20’s early 30’s and contribute little.

Certainly not all boomers, but enough that the landscape has been altered in a very selfish ego-centric way across the nation. The more useless kids learned this behavior from their parents…the children they are now raising in this GenX or whatever the heck they are should be really entertaining to watch develop…

On topic, Feinstein is a life long hack for the dems….quid pro quo is probably a fairly accurate assessment here. Indeed the Dems won, what a great statement to make regarding 4 dead Americans. They won so the dead don’t matter….Al Qaeda alive and well, twinkies and the economy not so much.
