Kerry considered for SecDef?

| November 13, 2012

I mentioned on Friday that John Kerry was a likely choice for the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense or the Director of the CIA. Well, it seems that the Obama Administration is considering him for Defense Secretary, according to the Washington Post;

President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus.

Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

John O. Brennan, Obama’s chief counterterrorism adviser, is a leading contender for the CIA job if he wants it, officials said. If Brennan goes ahead with his plan to leave government, Michael J. Morell, the agency’s acting director, is the prohibitive favorite to take over permanently. Officials cautioned that the White House discussions are still in the early stages and that no decisions have been made.

In fact, I’ve been predicting this for years, if anyone was paying attention. I hope the VSOs are watching him, because his record of screwing the troops goes back to the “fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan” “testimony” to Congress in 1971.

I can’t think of anyone less respected by the troops;

This is rediculus, & just plain SAD. I feel bad for EVERYONE serving today, & for the next 4years. And to have to endure this along with the return of the “Do more with less” that’s coming your way.

Charles W.

That was MY reply, #2 about this being SAD news for our service members. I forgot to add my name, but I stand by my comment. I really feel bad for today’s Military & AMERICA if this goes through.

If this goes thru, I will committ sedition. I will tell every young person within hearing to NOT join the military, any branch, for any reason or inducement.

Tony

*sigh* This just keeps getting worse.

“I can’t think of anyone less respected by the troops;”
Funny, I can’t think of anyone with less respect for our troops.
This asshole for Secretary of Defense?!
That idiot Susan Rice for Secretary of State?!

Yeah, Obama loves our country, tell me another one…

OWB

Could there possibly be a more effective way to tell all veterans and members of the military that there is not one iota of respect for them coming from 1600?

Welcome to the new USA, where a traitor can eventually become not just a senator but direct the very agency that he has historically held in complete disdain. What a crock.

Twist

I’m just waiting for Obama to assign Jane Fonda and Alec Baldwin to cabinet positions.

Remember this?
On July 2nd, 2008, Obama spoke in Colorado Springs and hit themes of national service, foreign policy, and national security. In that vein, Obama proposed a rather extraordinary idea — that the US should spend as much money on a civilian national security force as it does on the military.

By the time Obama finishes with the military Kerry will be rebuiding his old Swiftboat as his flagship?

Dave

Now that the revolution has been affirmed at the polling booth, the Bolsheviks are ousting the Mensheviks. Expect a long cold winter, comrades…..

Wrote your senators, ask them to put a hold on Kerry and Rice. If your senator is a Repub he may just do it. If your senator is a Dem they will at least be on notice that you object to these appointments. If enough of us do it the news will get out-give Obama as much trouble as you can.
Just my $.05 worth.

Obama was looking for a wy to discredit the military… I think he has found it.

“an extensive rearrangement of his national security team” —
Yes, do anything to make us look stupider than we already do. Do make us look like fools and idiots and while you’re at it, piss off more people who voted for you, you jackwagon.

Hey, if Carry gets the SecDef job, is he going to do something about his hair?

Zero Ponsdorf

Been watching this develop. Back in ’04 Kerry managed to bring disparate groups out of the woodwork to unify in condemning his Presidential run.

Perhaps this will be a much needed catalyst?

@14

That’s a good sign, right? He can get people to work together who might not have otherwise.

That boy’s a uniter.

Even as somewhat of a liberal, this idea pains me greatly. Good god, I hope they’re saying this just to irritate people and it’s not actually under consideration!

PintoNag

@10 Agreed. God, what a mess.

NHSparky

I remember his old 1984 ads on what he’d do with the Reagan buildup of the military if he were elected.

If someone can find and link the original flyer I’d certainly love to see it again.

Talk about your chickens coming home to roost.

Dems are worried about Kerry vacating his Senate seat – Kerry is in top 10 of most senior Senators (meaning influence from committee chairmanships) and it would create a special election where soon to be former (R)SEN Scott Brown can attempt to get his job back. Its quite plausible Mass can have Warren & Brown serving as its Senators. This scenario would cut Dem’s advantage in Senate to 54-46…The Democratic machine will make sure this doesn’t happen – lots of poor minorities & illegals living in the Mass who can be influenced y’know.

19: Devtun: they don’t need to worry. Citizens of Massachussetts aren’t too keen on law-abiding, standup people. If the GOP wants to win, they need to nominate Michael Vick. He’s got the prison creds, and he can’t seem to complete a game without going to the ER, so he knows healthcare.

I’m sure Philly will come out 121% in favor of getting rid of Vick.

Looks like Kerry and fellow Senator Sheldon Whitehouse are also involved in L’Affaire de Generals.

I wrote that because Kerry is French, and served in Vietnam. Which Chengelis did not do.
