No, that’s not how you protest

| November 8, 2012

There’s a way to express your displeasure with the election results, but this isn’t the way to do it. Several of you sent this picture to us yesterday of a MacDonald’s manager who was upset with the fact that Obama won the election so this is what he did. Yes, I know it’s supposed to be a distress signal, but it makes me think of the filthy hippies who I’ve encountered over the years. Like these;

Those folks did it because they hate this country, and they claimed at the time that it was a distress signal, but we know what they really meant. So get loud, but don’t be disrespectful to the rest of us who don’t want to be associated with hippies and other derelicts.

I know I hold an unpopular opinion already on this subject but in my view, it’s more disrespectful for idiots to have flown the flag at half staff for the death of Whitney Houston.

Be careful in letting your views on jerks like the rejects from Westboro waving our flag cloud your judgement on those who fly it upside down to protest the state of our nation. Not everyone who does so is doing it to be purposefully (or ignorantly) disrespectful. My mother wears her flag pin upside down and does so with the full reverance to those who bled and died for it. She’s actually converted a few liberals because of them seeing her pin that way. Besides, there is already too much freedom for me, but not for thee happening in this country anyway.

I thought the manager of this particular McDonald’s claimed that the pole was broken, hence the flag flying in that manner.

Find that ludicrous.

#1…I don’t remember seeing any flags flown half-mast for Whitney Houston. Where was this?

I am going to side with Jonn, I think the man was wrong about this.

But I also think that we all need to walk away from the politics of mutual self assured destruction. Nothing gets done in Washington without both parties working together. Obama can’t accomplish anything with taxation or budget without congress approving the legislation. Whether we wanted Obama or not (I assure you I did not), we are now stuck with him for four years and have to figure out how to get our duly elected representatives working with the man to reduce the deficit and put people back to work. Intelligently, and not by throwing money at everything. Our task is now to call our legislators and let them know if they like their jobs they need to stop the gridlock and start the true bipartisan work or we will vote them out.

I don’t see that actually happening because the blue states and red states seem to be so predictable that their respective representatives take their votes for granted. The real grass roots movement that should be afoot is the one that says, “do what you promise or get voted out next time…” if we don’t start doing that, then we will all get what we deserve for being part of the problem.

If a flag ends up upside down because of a broken pole, then the flag needs to be taken down until the pole is fixed. And this was a manager that said this. I guess idiocy is alive and well.

Temper tantrums will not help. It’s time to figure out what has gone wrong with the conservative platform in this country and fix it. We have the next four years to get our heads out of our a**es.

1st Amendment rights, I suppose. I knew Adam Kokesh while in the Marine Corps. He wasn’t that great of a Marine, in my opinion and comes to no surprise he turned out the way he did.

Free country. Don’t forget that. Just don’t ever burn it. Ever.

UpNorth

Free country, indeed. I guess that means that people are free to behave like an idiot. This guy seems to have exercised that right.

Concur with the above. We may not agree with the reelection of Obama, and he and the liberals are going to make a royal mess of things until 2017, but the Republic isn’t in mortal danger…at least not yet.

OWB

OK – he has the right to fly the flag any way he wants to, within reason, but I also have the right to tell him he is wrong to do so, and even point out that he has violated a law if I can prove that he did.

Jonn. Spot on. No way to protest. Free speech and the 2014 mid term election is how good citizens should protest. Not a big fan of ANYONE who violates FLAG CODE! Although I do share with the MACDuggles manager and his frustrations.
