Iranian missiles over Afghanistan

| November 7, 2012

Afghans are beginning talks with the Iranians because for some reason the Iranians fired off a couple of missiles into Afghanistan, according to TOLONews;

An Afghan police official, who spoke to TOLOnews on condition of anonymity, said that the 12 missiles landed in Nimroz province which borders with Iran.

“It’s not clear that why they launched the missiles,” he said, adding that they were launched by the military.

“Afghan officials have started talks over the attacks with Iranian officials today,” he said.

The missiles landed in the Chaharburjak district of Nimroz continuing until as recently as Wednesday morning.

Pajhwok News says that there were no casualties;

Dozens of missiles were slammed from the Iranian soil at Pamir, Kamyab and Hakam border posts from 4.30pm to 8.00pm on Tuesday, the governor told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The governor, who said no casualties resulted from the shelling of the uninhabited area, has sought a formal explanation from Iran’s border police commanders.

Citing initial reports, he said the missiles could have been fired mistakenly during an ongoing military exercise on the Iranian side of the border.

One or two missiles is a mistake, 12, however, is a barrage.

“Dozens of missiles were slammed from the Iranian soil at Pamir” — trying to sort out the hidden meaning of this. Is this describing a new weapon?

DaveO

What kind of missiles? Were they instead rockets?

Ex-PH2

Yes, I want to know. A missile that can slam from the ground instead of into it is new, and unusual.

Grammar check! Aisle three! Bring a mop!

In all seriousness, this is what we have to look forward to. But, Iran is a peaceful regime that isn’t looking at building a nuke… The President said so.

Medic09

Testing something before sending it out to Hizbullah and/or Hamas?

Kilo

I’m fairly certain that they’re referring to 107mm rockets and it’s a translation miscue.

OldSoldier54

Looking the see what the US response will be … which of course will be a lot of histrionics, empty words, and assorted smoke-and-mirror effects for the brain-dead US masses.

FltMedic

Fuck em, let Iran bomb the goat herders. Pull our troops out now. Let the world go to hell.

Sorry still pissed about the election.

Adirondack Patriot

Right with you FltMedic. I’m just gonna sit back and watch the 60 million geniuses who TWICE elected a functional retard figure it out for themselves.

Can women get government paid contraception when their ovaries are fried to a crisp by an Iranian thermonuclear device?

Just asking.

Gary

I plan to sit in my lawn chair and drink as the world burns.

@10 Gary

Correct same here, but add, terminate with extreme prejudice anyone who gets to close to my beer cooler or my steaks on the grill.

Rochambeau

Celebratory fire because of the U.S. election? Aww. Thanks, Iran.

FltMedic

I’d love to sit on the porch and watch the world go down in flames with you. Sadly I don’t ETS from the reserves (thank his not active anymore) till Aug. after that hell yea.

Why it’s important:

Missiles are smart, guided, and if these were SAM, we may have lost control of the air. If these were guided SSM this close to the Af-Pak border, our ground route that we use to get our stuff out of A-stan is threatened.

If this is a malfunction in the Iranian C4 system, and the missiles are SAM, are the resources (working C4 and missiles) all on Iran’s western border?

If these are rockets that misfired/bad C4, then is this an indicator of sanctions working on Iran’s maintenance program, or have the best resources been shipped to Syria to create Iran-West?

Or are the Iranians feeling froggy enough to waste expensive munitions? Usually the Iranians prefer to engage our forces in Iraq in infantry firefights, or IED.

Testing. . Testing. . Testing.
Fire one. . Fire two. . Fire twelve.

#16 I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t just get trigger happy, giggle and hammer the trigger a few times until someone jumped on them. This is the same group of people that think painting a speed boat black is a super-weapon.

On a serious note. Why the hell hasn’t anyone in the WH said anything yet. /rhetorical question

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

And, somewhere in Iran, a forward observer is asking the Farsi equivalent of “Where’s the KABOOM? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! This makes me very, very angry.”

Somewhere else in Iran, some Fire Direction Center guy is going “Whoops, I think I transposed two digits in that last azimuth…ah, nothing out that way for miles and miles except miles and miles, no biggie, right?”

DaveO

#18 Awesome! Now all you need is the Iranian Battalion Commander ordering “Repeat” as he was with the FO and missed it all.
