Bomb threats (UPDATED)

| September 14, 2012

Facebook has been a-buzz about bomb threats at a couple of universities today. First was South North Dakota and then someone sent us a link to an evacuation at the University of Texas in Austin;

Here’s the statement UT released:

At 8:35 a.m. the university received a call from a male with a middle eastern accent claiming to have placed bombs all over campus. He said he was with Al Qaeda and these bombs would go off in 90 minutes. President Powers was notified and it was decided to evacuate all of the buildings out of an abundance of caution.

I’m sure they’re giggling their their goat lovin’ asses off how they get us to jump through our shorts with a phone call.

UPDATE: There’s now a bomb threat situation in St Louis, MO

Respectfully: North Dakota State at Fargo, ND. Not South Dakota.

Add Valparaiso University to the list. http://preview.tinyurl.com/9eylfo5

When has anyone actually called in a bomb threat that was real? I don’t recall ever hearing about one. A real bomber wouldn’t warn anyone. The closest I can come to is James Holmes when he notified police that there were bombs all over his apartment, but that still isn’t quite the same

RunPatRun

Good, bad, right or wrong; colleges tend to err on the side of caution after Virginia Tech. Hope they catch the callers.

Loach

Yeah the IRA would often warn ahead of time. Different time different group.

Just found this in my inbox from Fox News: “University of Texas at Austin says it will reopen and allow buildings to be entered after search fails to find explosive devices that caller said were planted on campus. “

JoBlow

its gotta be Romney ppl trying to embarrass the President.

Twist

Not sure if #8 is serious or my sarcasm detector is broke.

Well, at least one President took appropriate and responsive action. Unfortunately, it’s a university president.

This site definitely needs a Like button.

Wonder if the University was able to get the call traced?

Could someone want a three day weekend in North Dakota?

Ex-PH2

I suppose we can expect more?

Okay if I go to Walmart now? I also have to go to Woodman’s. Will everyone be okay till I get back?

Nik

@10 Nice. Very nice.

Damn Jonn… Reading Brad Thor and watching these collective events unfold has the voices in my head in an uproar.

I don’t know if the caller was threatening us or calling shame on on the irgorant rioters of the religtion of peace? Can anyone translate this babble? Joe

ExPat, so it’s okay for these “peaceful protester” to threaten to kill innocent American children, women and the elderly but not us?

Science has proven that in-breeding produces retards. That’s why there’s laws against it in civiliazed countries….and why there are so manyfucking retards in some places.

With all of the horrendous and frustrating events coming our way the past few days, it’s hard not to want to break something. It’s time like these that we should turn to Reverend Al Sharpton for comfort and an unintended good laugh. (Thanks to UpNorth who reminded me of this classic the other day.)

Air Cav, I still think he’s a shoe-in for Carney’s job. Or, maybe Hillary’s?

The bomb threat in Kansas City is basically …then hilarity ensued.

Okay an idiot walks into the KC federal building asking why he is on the terrorist watch list. Well there is good reason, but the funny part is that he is also in federal witness protection…did I also mention that he regularly attends Chiefs games with his head painted to resemble a football helmet? Also this isn’t the first or second time he has blown his cover? He was a material witness in the 1993 WTC bombing which was why he was in the Witness Protection Program, so you think that the US Marshall Service keep track of those guys don’t they? I guess he was also on some kind of Terror watch list…which with previous associations maybe a good idea. Well a bomb dog does a walk around his car and “gives a sign” so they rip his car apart and find…duh dun duh…nothing. Bomb squad gets to use all its gizmos for nothing. Once again “better safe than sorry”.

IRA had a specific code word, if it was used, you had 5 minutes to evacuate. Anything else, it was a poser.

VU was some sort of grafitti found in a new campus building Thursday afternoon about chapel hour (its a Lutheran school) on Friday, 1130 – 12 or so. So lots of LE on campus Thursday night. So somebody at least was on campus and made the threat.

This kind of crap could be a real pain in the rear, but you have to deal with it.

I remember the checklist the AF gave us in the 80s about how to deal with a bomb threat. One of the questions you were supposed to ask was what is your name? Admittedly, not the first one…

ex af

Too early for mid terms…

Another bomb threat, another campus evacuated:

Ex-AF, strange as it seems, that’s a common checklist. It actually worked one time, with a forerunner of the Occutards. Our dispatcher asked the questions on the checklist in a really rapid sequence and the asshat actually gave his real name. Of course, he didn’t black caller ID either.
