Camp Bastion/ Camp Leatherneck under attack
Fox News says that two Marines are dead and that the attack may still be underway;
Two Marines were killed when Afghan militants armed with rocket propelled grenades and small arms breached the perimeter of the main U.S. Marine base in southern Afghanistan not long ago, following a rocket and mortar attack on the base that is shared with British forces.
Army Maj. Martyn Crighton, a spokesman at International Security Assistance Force’s Joint Command, said the attack on Camp Bastion/ Camp Leatherneck may still be ongoing. There are at least two fatalities and a number of wounded. The base took indirect and small arms fire, causing major damage to buildings, an aircraft hangar and several military jets.
But, ya wanna know what’s really stupid about the article? This line; “Officials in Afghanistan said it is too early to know if this attack was motivated by the anti-Islamic YouTube movie that recently went viral on the Internet.”
Oh, sorry, did we forget that the attack might have come as a result of the fact that our troops are engaged in a war and sometimes assaults on military installations are part of the ongoing actual military operations and have nothing to do viral videos?

I used to think that the Left was stupid.
Recent events regarding the video and attacks on US interests in the Middle East make me realize that I underestimated them.
The Left are collectively a bunch of fuggin retards.
Those espousing the idea that it is all spontaneous based on an idiotic video on youtube are fucking idiots. The useful idiots out protesting across North Africa are just being driven by their masters, who have to be loving all the pathetic apologising by our government officials… and if they really believe the violence is about that video, they too are even dumber than I thought they were/are.
Iran is likely behind all of this to begin with, as well as Al Qeada and others… This video is a convenient excuse and a nice tool for the mullahs, but it was not even viewable in Egypt when all this started!!
As to asscrackistan… what are we accomplishing there at all at this point?
Let me say that the attack is most likely due to the fact that the Taliban know Prince Harry is there. As a Marine who has two tours in that area and at those two bases, there really was not many houses or villages out by the base. Plus if you read the news, the stated that the Talibans intentions were to target and kill Prince Harry. I am glad he is safe and I mourn the loss of my brothers.
Good let’s hope those Talib goat humpers bunch up and make it easy for Spectre to kill them…

The muhammad movie/youtube video may not have been the main impetus for the extreme levels of violence at the Libyan embassy which killed Americans. It may have been a ‘tool’ used by the al qaeda types not only as a “cover,” but also as a way of increasing the overall level of general violence during their attack. A poster on another thread made a good observation about group dynamics in riot type situations. The al qaeda types only needed a dozen or so hard core ‘agents’ to mount the attacks against the embassy with guns and rocket launchers. The other people there at the embassy, probably a mix of people including those who were specifically protesting the videos, got swept up in the orgy of violence. Again, since when do these goat herders, in general, protest against supposed slights against their religion carrying rocket launchers?
But now that the protests and violence has spread all over the place, there is no denying that this new violence HAS been motivated by the muhammad video. I mean, since when have Malaysian citizens carried out violent attacks against American embassies and symbols, simply of their own accord? I highly doubt they are protesting against Laden’s death or any of that sort of thing. These recent riots are due to the video.
I’m not sure the al qaeda types envisioned this happening, but no doubt they have to be happy to have so many people rioting and acting aggressively towards America.

As the token Civil Affairs guy, I say, it is time for the United States to pull every last red cent of CERP, ODACA, and other reconstruction/Aid monies out of the region, focus on Africa and Asia, and begin developing partnerships with Mali, South Sudan, and other countries near HOA that have oil… On top of developing domestic crude, and alternative energies. Fuck that region, let the aid money dry up and they will self destruct!
My son is a GySgt.USMC, stationed @ the base that was attacked in Afghanistan . I am in limbo. This not knowing, not hearing from him is hell. Are there any new updates for us civilians. I keep telling myself the old saying…”No news, is good news!” Praying for all our troops across the globe.

Actually this attack may be focused on HRH Prince Harry, who is currently stationed there.
Despite the fact that we are still involved in a war and that war involves casualties there are contributing factors to this attack. When did our media become so focused on reporting in their opinion…”news worthy information” that they have lost sight that they may be directly responsible for the loss of our loved ones? The British media decided it was a good idea to share the location where Prince Harry was stationed. WTF? Did they think that revealing his location would allow fans and followers to send CARE packages?? Of course they helped in making this particular base a target on Prince Harry’s birthday. Then the media further thought it important to reassure the public that England’s playboy was safe and never in any danger. Well, we can all sleep well now. (insert sarcasm here) Of course I am glad Prince Harry is doing fine and I have respect for his military service, however my family lost sleep and communication from our loved ones stationed waiting to hear if they were o.k.
How could you possibly say that the increased level of violence, demonstrations and upcoming attacks have nothing to do with the youtube video gone viral? Of course this has caused a reaction. Shame on those that contribute to an already tense and hostile environment in any way putting lives in jeopardy more than they already are. God bless those families that lost loved ones in the attack on Camp Bastion/Leatherneck as a result of our stupidity. Denise: Do you have any idea when the video was released? Do you know the source for the claim that the video prompted the attacks? Did you know that Culprit #1 was falsely reported to be Israeli? Have you checked the news lately regarding the ‘spontaneity’ of the attacks? Your well wishes are appreciated but your opinion…Well, it would be nice if your opinion were sensible and based on facts and not propoganda.
Could it be that these attacks are due to crappy wifi reception outside of Camp Bastion. The Taliban needed to move in closer in order to access better reception and watch the crappy video. Maybe the Taliban are pissed because Obama said everyone should be able to access the Internet. Maybe the Taliban are pissed because the Time Warner installer is supposed to be there between 0900 and 1500 and he’s late.
Regarding the spontaneous demonstration BS said to be spawned by a film no one has seen, John McCain had the line of the week:
“Most people don’t bring rocket-propelled grenades and heavy weapons to a demonstration.”
AirCav, Ambassador Rice (USA rep to UN) insisted this morning on CNN and later on Fox that the riots and/or demonstrations are entirely due to the film, which only exists (to my knowledge) as a trailer on YouTube, not as a complete film — unless someone has other info about it.
I don’t know what Ms. Rice has been smoking or how long she’s been out of touch with civilization, but she sure is parroting the official line.

My son is there on that base and my best friend’s son is in country — both of their training regiments were cut way short and were shipped out in a hurry last month — Both of us came to the same conclusion last month that something was ether going down or fixing to go down .. So for this administration to say they were caught by surprise is Bull. Stop apologizing for the truth they killed an ambassador.
AirCav…I don’t arrive at my opinion based upon propaganda. I consider myself to be open-minded, but not easily led astray. I happen to have several close friends and a son-in-law stationed at Leatherneck. I have five former students stationed at another base in Afghanistan. I am in contact with them often. I think those that are actually stationed there have a pretty good idea of what’s going on, some things they can share…some not. I am NOT saying I have all of my “facts” straight…but I don’t get my news from watching television, or listening to mainstream media. You can say what you want…perhaps my reaction is an emotional reaction. (I’m entitled. It hits close to home for me.)
Do I think a video or a prince’s birthday would be stupid reasons to blame for an attack? Of course I do. The bottom line is the Taliban does not need a “reason” to launch an attack. I am just saying that in this case, IF there were contributing factors that lead to this specific attack, (which I believe that there were) then in my opinion, those involved, are not without blame.
