Confused Yet Again

| July 27, 2012

The Olympics is kicking off again.

I haven’t added everything up, but at a glance there are more security forces in place than athletes – again.

Since 1972 I, personally, pay more attention to the number of security personnel involved than any part of the events.

So should the world be proud of the fact that the events go on, or sad that the threat STILL exists?

Is anyone still ignorant of where the threat originates? Two official wars where our guys are fighting – and getting wounded or dying? And still The Olympics require huge levels of security.

I doubt I have THE answer… so please weigh in?

Oh yeah… There are crazies with guns. I doubt the snipers and anti-aircraft positions are there to deal with that?

Happily it ain’t just me: Why the IOC will never memorialize the ’72 Munich massacre

Thanks “you know who” Mucked up the link, but I think it’s fixed?

I am sad about the threat and sad that we don’t remember 1972 the way we should.

Mike

I’m gonna guess here (because I’m really not sure, but the lack of and unwillingness to recognize or memorialize the 1972 massacre has more to do with certain participants and their willingness to help fund/attend the games. Nobody of course wants to address that elephant sitting on their couch directly because it wouldn’t be politically correct. They just ignore it and hope there is no repeat.

I just read the story about why they will not remember ’72. When I finished, I turned the tv off as the ceremonies were beginning. I have lost all interest in the games now.

Another revolting thing about the Olympics – the ads for “Stars Earn Stripes” hosted by wesley clark. Gag…

The sad thing is is that the IOC refuses to publicly honor the 1972 Israeli OT.

These men and women were representing their country in the Olympic Games, not combat, although I imagine most served due to the conscription policy. Additionally, every host nation has refused to do it since.

You may not like the Israeli’s military, and they can be heavy-handed, but they do not lose.

We have the luxury of a friendly nation to the north, two oceans on the east and west and well…Mexico to the south.

The IOC and the global community need a wake up call.

Honor them and move on.

UpNorth

Honoring the Israelis won’t happen. The way it is, the IOC is “only” offending one country, Israel. If they would honor the Israelis who were murdered, they’d offend every practioner of the Religion of Pieces.
I don’t watch the Olympics, except maybe hockey at the Winter Games.

#6.I hear you.

I do not wish to make this a geo-political debate, but right is right.

If shit goes south (possible NBC) in the ME again (which it will) and we become involved, Israel is good to have.

I feel you on the Olympics, though. I actually got fed up with it when we (US) admitted professional athletes. We became over-confident and the “Dream Team” wound up eventually taking the bronze in 2004.

I stick with wrestling and judo, actually. Maybe field events as well.

Anyway…

#7 – the world always had to compete against “professional” athletes from Eastern Bloc countries for years and years…

I stick to judo and the fencing games. Though, after the aftermath of the Women’s Beach volleyball win in Athens, I have been watching that too hoping to see more girl-on-girl grinding.

In all seriousness, after the crap in Atlanta during the ’96 Olympics, I’m not surprised about the overabundance of security.

I’m just curious what the next is going to be like in Rio… the country with the highest kidnapping rate in the world.

I am thoroughly disgusted after reading the link. Have nothing more to add.

OWB

I would be counted among those glued to the tube during the Olympics. Perhaps a symbolic gesture? Still hoping that one day the world will wake up to the threat?

In answer to your first question, Zero, yes, I am proud that the games continue to exist, even if we seem to keep ignoring the rather obvious solutions to the threat.

Watched the entire opening. There were some very cool aspects to it. But there were others parts which were simply laughable in their leftist foolishness.

IMHO, until the IOC remembers the Israeli’s murdered in Munich, the Olympic Games are on par with WWE phony wrestling. UpNorth hit the nail on the head, right now the IOC is only insulting the Israeli’s. Politics has no place in these games.
