Duffel Blog: The USS Jane Fonda
It’s the DUFFEL BLOG, so it’s satire;
The ship’s name, which had been kept under wraps until right before the launch, was revealed yesterday at a star-studded event presided over by Ms. Fonda.
Ms. Fonda made a statement prior to the launch, saying, “I dedicate this ship to the brave men who fought and died in Vietnam, especially those in the 66th Viet Cong Regiment.”
The actress is extremely unpopular among some military groups for her activities during the Vietnam War, such as posing for propaganda pictures with North Vietnamese soldiers, referring to American prisoners of war as “hypocrites and liars”, and more recently cutting the line at a Target in front of a guy wearing an American flag t-shirt.
You know what satire is, right? Well, it’s satire. It just sounds like something Maybus would do. But it’s satire!
Category: Satire
IMO the best satire is almost indistinguishable from real life.
I was thinking the next ship would the USS Barbara Streisand or the USNS Medea Benjamin.
Still, just the thought of it elevates the BP.
OWB #2: Yep!
False but accurate
your purpose and goal ??
Is it bad that while reading the header I actually had to stop and check to see if it was a Duffel post? I can’t tell if that’s my ingrained cynicism coming out or a sign of the times.
You scared me there.
Kinda took my breath away….good satire does that sometimes.
Take for instance, the new ship USNS Cesar Chavez, christened on Cinco de Mayo (how appropriate) – thus the reason my heart skipped a beat, since another Socialist like Jane Fonda having a ship named after her wouldn’t surprise me with this POTUS and his leftist administration.
Read this excerpt from an article located here: http://www.10news.com/news/31017957/detail.html – especially the last paragraph.
Initially, the Chavez family did not want the ship named after the migrant worker advocate since he believed in non-violence. They agreed after learning the ship will be used to take carry supplies like food to other ships.
Now, the ship name is being criticized by members of the Senate. Republicans have asked the Navy to explain its choice, calling the naming a political statement that does not follow Navy protocol.
The assistant secretary of the Navy did not wait for the Senate hearing to address the controversy.
“This the perfect name of an American hero who embodied American values that will inspire a generation of sailors,” said Juan Garcia, the assistant secretary of the Navy.
Yeah, right!
Jesus Jonn! You REALLY had me going for a second there!! With this administration, all things are possible, and I don’t mean that in a good way.
@9 OldSoldier, you couldn’t have said that better.
Somehow….I have a feeling this will happen.
Also, an acceptable alternative would have been the the USS Obama with this quote; “I knew the only way I would have a ship named after me is if I did it myself. Even Maybus wouldn’t sign off on it.”
Yeah, this one seems more prophetic, than satirical.
TWISTED version of the old saying:
“You want it done WRONG — Do it your”self.”
(In this case, there IS NO SELF, no center, no core, just zero)
No offense, Mr. Zero Ponsdorf .
Not only this, but the USS Saul Alinsky and USS Gus Hall if you vote Democrat on Nov 6.
When/if USS Jane Fonda engages some enemy combatants in a place far far away- yep Jane Fonda in flesh will protest the USS Jane Fonda & immediately demand name be stricken & replaced with following list of names(alleged war criminals):
-USS Lyndon Baines Johnson
-USS Robert Mcnamara
-USS Gen. William Westmoreland
-USS George W. Bush
-USS Donald Rumsfeld
Fellas, fellas, fellas… The only thing that should be named after that pig eyed bitch is a garbage scow!? Unfortunately that would be disgracing the garbage scow.
#16: that assumes we’ll still have a Navy if The Won wins again.
Or Have an Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. POTUS Kenyan Oblamebush wants to fund his social programs and the Unions from coast to coast – Armed Forces are unnecessary expense that needs to be eliminated ASAP.
BTW just keep enough Air Force & Marine personnel to keep Air Force One & Marine One flying-can’t give up these perks. President Kenyan Obama still has to fly to his 57 states, play his hundreds of games of golf, go to Martha’s Vineyard, pal around w/ Manhattan/Hollywood liberal elites-be a man of the people in essence.
“… hypocrites and liars, and history will judge them harshly.”
Fonda’s comment after confronted by an ex-pow’s wife who was beyond incredulous at Fonda’s answer to the reports of the POWs being tortured.
@17 don’t forget the USS Ramsey Clark
The sad part is, after jumping the shark with the Gabby Giffords and the Cesar Chavez, this only barely qualifies as satire. I can actually see Mabus coming up with some tortured rationalization for naming a ship after Hanoi Jane. After all, her dad, Henry, served in the Navy during WWII. And, by Mabus logic, that’s kinda-sorta like being in the Navy yourself, right?
The video above won’t play. Here’s the article.

Attention on deck – SECNAV Ray Mabus has today proudly announced the naming of a new Navy ship: USS Peter “Easy Rider” Fonda. Thats right folks – Sailors and Marines can be midnight tokers & dance with Mary Jane while carrying out their solemn duties. This new vessel will provide “joint” task force commanders the flexible, rapid, and lethal capabilities required- “rolled-up” in single platform. Any evidoers “potheaded” enough to challenge U.S. military might will end “up in smoke”. SECNAV Mabus has “high” expectations and has no doubt this new warship will be cool, far out, and a total gas…man.

I thank you for this reference —
(Horrible — Where’s the Firing Squad, when you really require it ?? !!) .
I Think we all need to order more “Hanoi Jane Urinal Stickers”
*whew* I had to recheck the date 2 or 3 times to see if this was an April fools joke. I thought I was going to have a stroke.
