Life of Duty: D-Day
The folks at the NRA and Brownells send us a 6 minute video clipped from the Army’s 28-minutes of archival footage on the subject of D-Day.
Yeah, I think I’d rather parachute into war than to watch the ramp on the landing craft drop while machine gun fire poured in with no place to hide. I’m surprised they could drag those huge brass balls up on the beach and then alter the course of history.

Yes it’s unbelieveable… I prefer to take my chances exiting the aircraft at 400’AGL
Without a doubt… Not that the guys jumping had it a whole lot easier on the way down, but once on the ground they could at least find some cover. There was no such thing on those beaches. it is a miracle that D-Day was succseful.
Amazing. What more can be said about those brave guys?
My dad was on Normandy beach, D-Day +3. He said there were sections of the beach you couldn’t walk without stepping on a body, either German or American.
Wet. Cold. Nauseuous. Scared shitless. No body armor. Nothing for cover or concealment from the water to the seawalls, other than the “Rommel’s asparagus” obstacles placed at the beaches’ edge.
The clips of men going ashore and falling, and more moving up to take their places, gave me chills.
My father in law was there. He recieved a battle field comission. I agree great big brass balls!
I call him every d-day and tell him thanks.
it will be a sad say when he is no longer here to be thanked for their efforts. He says that he isnt a hero at all. the ones that didnt make it back are the heros. I agree 100 %.
Dad was at Utah and my uncle was at Juno. Dad came home, Uncle Rudy didn’t.
While our military is still capable of this type of valor, our country unfortunately, could never muster the guts to do anything like this again. Forget most Americans volunteering for anything like this, much less a draft . We’ d be “hand-wringing” over every move.
I’ve seen those two soldiers get shot, at 4:07, the one not moving, the other still moving, and I get the chills every time I see it.
Big brass ones, indeed. Thank you, all of you.
