Life of Duty: Battle of the Bulge: Dangerous Encounters
The folks at the NRA and Brownells send us their latest video in the Life of Duty series, Battle of the Bulge: Dangerous Encounters, the story recounted by Walter Hughes of the confusion in the front lines at the Battle of the Bulge – the 67th anniversary of that epic battle is this week, by the way;

Today, December 22, is also the 67th anniversary of action by Peter D’Alessondro that resulted in his award of the Medal of Honor.

Peter was from upstate New York and was a friend of my father-in-law, who himself served in the Army in France. Peter passed away in 1997 and is buried at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Please take a moment to read about him.
AP, that was quite a read. Thanks for the link.
It’s painful to these guys passing……
An amazing read. The story of the 9th’s fighting in the three months preceding that action is itself nearly incredible. It included fierce hand-to-hand combat between it and the German’s 353rd Infantry Division and part of their 12th Infantry Division as well. Rear echelons soldiers became warriors over night–of necessity. This was no distance fighting. It was largely small arms, grenades, and bayonets.
