There’s that camel’s nose again
Greg sends us a link from a local NBC station in New Haven, CT which reports that New Haven Mayor, John DeStefano, has asked the state legislature for permission to let illegal aliens vote in his local elections;
DeStefano said on Tuesday that the proposal would build a more engaged community and follows the lead of other cities, the New Haven Independent reports.
The Independent reports that New Haven has about 10,000 non-citizen immigrants.
Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally or illegally and cannot vote now would still be unable to vote in state or federal elections.
DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

DeStefano made the disclosure Tuesday morning after a press conference […] where he and other politicians gathered to announce their opposition to the federal “Secure Communities initiative” to deport more immigrants who are here illegally.
Maybee he’d like to throw open all of the banks so robbers would have an easier time plying their business, too.

That’s bonkers. Citizenship as a requirement for electoral participation is a fundamental underlying principle of western democracy.
This is just about the most ridiculous proposal I have ever seen come from a politician east of California.
The arguments against this are too numerable to even try and list.
Given the Left’s apparent preference for how things are done in other countries, how many other nations allow non-citizens to vote in elections?
For that matter, how many allow illegal non-citizens to vote in elections?
Racists. Why are they limiting it to people living there? Just because I live in California and have never been to Connecticut in my life is no reason to disenfranchise me!

As a cross-country trucker, I bought diesel fuel in New Haven more than once, (paying taxes there). That, in and of itself, should entitle this Floridian to vote there, (If I did I would vote to end gun bans, open the workplace to the non-union worker, and reduce their damned high taxes.), I mean, if the illegals qualify by merely paying taxes, there are a plethora of those of us who fit that description.
Oh, let’s not limit it to just those who pay taxes there! Maybe we could all request absentee ballots and vote. Just because we want to. No need to actually register to vote, right?
I thought of visiting there once, is that enough to get a ballot and vote? And, if I did visit, I’d pay taxes. That makes me eligible, right?
Send me the ballot, and my wife wants to vote too, so does my dog.
I seem to recall stopping in CT on the way to New York and taking a dump at a rest stop or gas station. Surely I qualify to vote for something up there.
