A 62 year-old timely poem
Old Trooper sent us this poem which reminds me of something that is occurring at this moment even though it was written in 1949. I won’t vouch for the accompanying story, but it’s still a good poem. I put it below the fold because it’s a fairly large file;
Category: Barack Obama/Joe Biden, Politics, Taxes
You know I’ve started reading Atlas Shrugged, and its kind of eerie how some of the speech and events are paralleled today. Its almost like she had a time machine. . .
Word.
Doc,
Speaking of prescience……. The short story on the link below sums up a great deal of fears that I and many others have proffered regarding the current state of Navy ship building and procurement, though it likely speaks as well for the other service’s programs. Though written awhile back, it is eerily relevant today.

It’s a short read, only two page’s, but worth the time to read.

Sorry, my bad. Linkage problems there. On the link I posted, when the page loads, click on the “electronic version” link. It’s the short story on the next page entitled “Superiority” by Arthur C. Clarke
< sending AW1 Tim back to that boomer boat….LOL
Today Rand … tomorrow Ron …
😉
(But seriously, I’m no Ayn Rand fan … )
It’s 62 years old. Republicans: worse at math than they are at poetry.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaand instoopid misses the point, as usual.
Are you saying 2011-1949 is 82, Redacted? Because unless you’re saying that, than I pretty much have the point. And the point is that John Lilyea sucks at math.
As far as the post goes. It is nothing new. It’s just people seeking a superior moral justification for being selfish bastards. It’s Marie Antoinette, it’s Jefferson Davis, it’s any one of a million people out there who’s “moral” philosophy boils down to: “I’m no board, now pull up the ladder!”
tell me Insipid, are these words any less true?
“hey we don’t have to work hard we’re subsidized”
“where’s the government getting the money?”
“well the rich, we can just tax them”
“but if the rich are taxed into non-richness where is the money from the subsidies going to come?”
“STFU!”
From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs. . . the most destructive words ever issued in human history.
At first glance it may appear that what I write is not dierctly related to the post. Yet I think that it is spot on.
Healthy living magazine released a list of the 10 best cities in the world to live in today. THe list was based on a set of serious factors all taken in proprortional balance. The results of the study were very revealing. I will not say how revealing becasue I do not think that the study did true justice to the winners on list. It underrated their supiriority.
The resutls of the list were that out of the top ten cities
six were in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. All of these countries are all examples of social WELFARE democracies.
The winner of this contest was Vienna. No that is not Vienna Virginia home of so many CIA agents that can not live with out a trip once a week to Pizza. It is Vienna Welfare Austria. Germany had four cities in the top 10 and Switzerland had two. HOW MANY DID THE USA HAVE?
Hmmmm the USA home of the brave. Frankfurt home of the smart. We let the our Uncle Sams pay for our protection.
We let our Uncle Sams build 500 bases in the desert and then give then away. Hey isnt that a kind of welfare too?
Welfare for the military industrial complex goes along way away doesnt it?
Of course unlike some people who have learned from past mistkes, who just happen to speak German, it looks like some people will forever fall for the same old trick that if only the Republicans had been in power and not the Democrats (and icev versa)things would have been different.
Well, MAM: here’s the deal: Western Europe could afford to have their little socialist, cradle to grave entitlements for many decades after WWII. Why? Because the amount of their own money they spent on defending their country was paultry compared to the amount of money we spent on defending their country. I’m sure you heard of a little thing called the Berlin Airlift? The Cold War?
If you don’t mind reading what is going on in current events, take a quick peak at what is happening right now in the Eurozone. Now that we have drawn down a lot of our forces in Europe and the bill is coming due for their cradle to grave entitlements; you can see what kind of pressures are being put on their economies.
Also, as someone who was born in Germany and has a lot of relatives there I can tell you that it isn’t all beer and skittles over there, no matter what Women’s World Dailey tells you.
62, 82, what’s the fucking difference, insipid?
And what’s worse? Someone who wants to keep what THEY worked for, or someone who wants to sit on his ass and take (either directly by theft or indirect theft through government by means of “redistribution”, “fairness”, “wealth equality”, or whatever bullshit you want to call it?
Frankly, I’m getting fucking sick and tired of sending over 40 percent of my income to the government before I see a dime, and being told I’m a shitbag for not giving more by 1–people who hide their yachts in different states, sack their money offshore, or just plain blow it (see Corzine–and what party is he, pray tell?) or worse, 2–drive their new $45K dualie trucks to the local grocery store, load up on shit I’ll never be able to afford, pay for it with an EBT while baby daddy pays for the booze and smokes with the “assistance” check, all the while making money “under the table” that they don’t pay a fucking dime in taxes on?
Yeah, talk about the “I’m on board, fuck you” mentality.
Just cuz I want to be a smart ass this morning NH the difference between 62 and 82 is 20. Just busting your balls alittle
Found my old copy of Berke Breathed’s Bloom County, “Toons for Our Times.” The parts covering the 1984 race between Reagan and Mondale could easily have been Obama and McSh*thead in 2008.
History does repeat itself.
I miss Breathed’s work. Bloom County is a wonderful strip, and so insightful in many areas. Same with Calvin & Hobbs.
You really suck at trolling dude. The point is the content of the poem, you fucking idiot. Wow, Jonn made a typo, I’m sure it’s not the only one ever made on the internet. But it’s fixed now, so you can go fuck yourself spanky. 😉
Okay, insipid, I’m gonna throw you a local example of what I’m talking about. This story was in a Sunday paper, page one, above the fold:
http://www.sunjournal.com/approved/story/1067660
Of course, what the the newsie NOT discuss with you?
–Unmarried. Kids all by different fathers. Nah, that won’t fuck up a kid’s psyche.
–No job, no plans on getting one.
–Her MySpace page (with the free computer and Internet access) shows all her cool new tattoos! Where ever did she get the money for THOSE, pray tell?

============================
In other news, the former head of the Philly school system, who earlier this year was given a nearly $1M severance package, has just filed for unemployment. Fuckin really?
Sparky, she got the tatts with the money she saved, because she got a “free” cell phone. If you’re on any kind of assistance, you get an Assuarance, or Safe-Link phone, “free”.
Insipid’s reaction is typical liberal, if confronted with anything that doesn’t fit the lib meme, find something totally irrelevant and harp on that.
I’m way too busy to respond to those directing messages at me. I just want to say that before redacted comes up with the inevitable: Instoopid is hiding!
Two quick things. 1. Does ANYONE here, including Redacted, believe that if i made a similar “typo” he’d cut ME the same kind of slack? 2. Redacted, are you really as pissed off and hostile as you come across? Cause it seems as if you would totally kick my ass if i were making the same arguments in front of you. And if you really are THAT angry i suggest you step AWAY from the politics, man. There’s nothing in life that’s worth this much agita.
@11: you don’t think maybe there was bias there? “best cities” doesn’t really tell you anything. Sure I’m sure all those socialized places are great fun to visit. Until they have to tax the snot out of people to keep the programs going, or start fining people for producing too much (a problem that would be unthinkable before 1917)
I could list all the benefits for small town USA, then just as many benefits for big cities. Now, lets fast forward a few years. The Euro which France and Germany are dominating, is also tied to countries that are not so prosperous. Ireland, Spain Portugal, and Greece, to name a few. One nasty side effect is that if one economy collapses, it’ll take the rest with it.
America, having more land mass than most of Europe, is a bit different, also while the economy of, say Detroit may be pretty shitty, the economy of Texas is quite frankly booming. How’s this different from Europe? Well for one its all one economy. It all gets rather muddy and boring. Seeing as my eyes are glazing over right now its probably time to stop.
I’m way too busy to respond
Translation: I’m getting my fucking head handed to me, so I’ll just pull my usual “swoop and poop” game.
#20 Project much?
Doc,
It is just my experience but my experience is those places that are nice to visit are often, but not always, nice places
to live.
Yes I agree the list is biased. How many people want to live long and healthy lives anyways? I would much prefer to munch on chocolate and ice cream.
My list might look like
1. Madison Wisconsin
2. San Juan Costa Rica or Puerto Rico
3. Brussels Belgium
4. Milchbach Switzerland
5. Cologne Germany
6. Salzburg Austria
7. Caracus Venezuala
8. Granada Spain
9. Berkley California
10.Burlington Vermont
Sadly ther are again no cities on this list in the United
States.
