No, not that one, the one that is a “killer” of men, the one engaged in the shameful endeavor of protecting our country through service in Afghanistan.

At least Robert had enough prinicple not to share air with that other douchenozzle. He’ll land on his feet soon enough, God willing.

Jacobite

After reading the article I was left a bit split. While I hate the fact that ANOTHER professor responsible for the molding of young minds is found to be so anti military, I also hate the fact that Maj. Roughsedge bailed from his position over the controversy. His actions abandoned the field of intellectual battle to the enemy. Not good.

Well, look at it this way, Jacobite–either he left, or he stayed and caved that little fucker’s head in for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Jacobite

Nothing wrong with caving in that jerk’s head in my opinion. But one would hope the good Maj had enough self control to suck it up and drive on as I assume he did under less than ideal conditions overseas. That he chose to cut and run doesn’t speak well to his character in my opinion regardles of how much I support what he was doing on campus.

I see it as a small example of what’s wrong with the country as a whole when it comes to ‘stick with it-ness’. We now have a couple generations of people who have been taught that it’s more nobel to bail when they don’t like a given situation rather than to stay and fight for their own principles.

The Maj and his message would have been better served by forcing the other maggot professor to deal with him daily.

Doc Bailey

I don’t know. I think if this Maj were placed highly enough and if there are in fact other reservists/veterans at the school, this could snowball. It might be interesting if it did.

Jacobite: Roughsedge was in a lose-lose position by returning to Suffolk Law. He lost because Michael Avery is a life-long, fully committed anti-American. He teaches the Constitution in the same was John Wayne Gacy focused on young boys: he hated them so much he had to f*ck ’em and kill ’em.

The second way Roughsedge loses is Avery has a right to free speech that the admin and faculty now have to defend to extremes.

The only win is that Avery is now a known quantity, so folks know not to apply to, or return to Suffolk Law.

Susan

The article said that Roughsedge was an adjuct professor – which means, generally, that he had a real job and tought one class for the love of the game. Adjuncts rarely get paid squat. Avery, on the other hand, was a fully tenured professor. An adjunct going up against a tenured prof is akin to a smartcar going up against a bradley. It would be ugly. Roughsedge did the only thing he could do to make the appropriate statement.

Frankly Opinionated

“Cut and Run”? I don’t see it that way at all. He was not in the fight, and could not get into it in any sort of a positive way. I see it as him ridding himself of unsavory neighbors, a true mark of a man. Whether adjunct or tenured, there is little to nothing that he could do on campus to shut this bastard down, and anything physical would hit the good major right in the face.
I doubt that this reflects his “downrange” leadership traits.

Just Plain Jason

Trust me the major did the best thing he could do in this instance. Speaking from personal experience I have tried to fight too many battles and it rarely comes out me looking positive, right now it looks like the Major left an enviornment that is unwelcome to the military. How many people are going to ask for the head of the dipshit Avery over this? Many more than if just his assholish letter was written. Now not only is Avery an asshole, but he also made a popular adjunct professor quit. I imagine this isn’t the first shit this dumbass has against him either, by the major quitting he may have in fact given the school more bad publicity and therefore more ammunition to terminate a shitty professor in Avery. The Major won the war without firing a single round.

The Duke

I think it was the right move. It will get more attention from students and the community now that a veteran and professor resigned because of it. It will probably also help get his name out there so that he can land on his feet with ease. I don’t see it as cowardice… from a strategic standpoint it is win, win. Michael Avery is the true coward. I posted his email address here when the first story broke and I’m proud that he must have been flooded with so many emails that he took his email off of his Suffolk University public page.

Excerpts from his resignation letter are at the link. Pretty sound reasoning, AFAIC.

Whoa! I’m with Jacobite. Suffolk is found in one of the most prolific Democrat neighborhoods. This twit Avery of course is protected by the first amendment. The Major doesn’t like something he said. I don’t like 75% of what the liberals say and that doesn’t mean I’m leaving, what are they going to do spank me?
Avery is probably an excellent professor and like so many too big for his britches and almost all the garbage that comes out of his mouth in convoluted.
If the Major stuck around he might have made a difference to some conservative students enrolled. There is none now and within a month anyone asking about Roughsedge will get the response of “Who?” Liberalism isn’t something we can ignore. We need to meet it head on and throw as many roadblocks their way as possible.
This is not an intellectual problem it is dimwitted professor attacking military tradition and honor. When he does, and the Major taking the opportunity to pass is a distinct act of apathy. Keeping our friends close and our enemies closer.
A large Hot Chocolate left in Avery’s brief case would have been better and put a knot in his skivvies. I am disappointed also.
