Earning respect in Philly
Old Trooper sends a link to an incident in Philly in which a homeowner tried to protect two unarmed teens from a crowd of other armed teens. After hustling the kids in his house, Mark LaVelle bolted his own front door and told his wife and kids to hide upstairs. The crowd of teens forced the door open and hit LeVelle with a pipe and their fists. Another tried to raise a gun, but LeVelle was able to prevent the man from firing until police arrived.
of course the parents of the violent teens are the real heroes in this story (that’s sarcasm, in case you don’t know me);
LaVelle said that the next day the mother of the juvenile came back with some other people, banging on his door, screaming. LaVelle, who was at a charity sports event, was called back to the house by one of his sons.
When he got home, LaVelle said, the mother yelled at him, ” ‘You white mother——, you got my kid locked up! You got my son locked up because he’s black, you’re white!’ ” The mother claimed that her son had been “a witness,” not an attacker. To that, LaVelle said if that were true, it would come out in court.
But the mother, according to LaVelle, then yelled: ” ‘If you make it to court! I know where you live!’ “
Of course, the armed teens are blameless and their parents are out to prove that by being criminals themselves.

What is the ethnicity of the kids who were given refuge in the guy’s house?

Reminds me of an old “Ozzie and Harriet” episode. Wait. Maybe that was ” The Andy Griffith Show.” Yup. That was it. Now I remember. Opie and another kid pulled a gun on some kids visiting from Raleigh. Floyd, though very nervous, pulled out his piece and held Opie and the other kid until Barney arrived. Barney dropped his bullet trying to load but Andy arrived and did his unhappy duty. The next day Aunt Bea threatened to kill Floyd and burn down his barber shop. Some things never change.
Miss Ladybug; it says in the story they were white. What does that have to do with it? The whole thing shifted to the color of the homeowner, anyway.
This will continue to escalate, since it has been happening with more frequency for the last couple of years, because they are being told to do this by their “community leaders”. Shabazz said it just a couple of weeks ago (he’s the head of the NBBP and was one of the armed thugs outside the Philly polling center in 2008). The incidents at the Wisconsin and Iowa state fairs, other incidents in Philly, and now this.
If this story were reversed, it would be front page, top of the fold, and every news station would be running this 24/7 and blame the Tea Party and GOP as racist bastards. Plus, if it were reversed, the mother of the teen arrested would be sitting in jail, herself, for tresspassing, making terroristic threats, and of course, hate crimes. But, this is the reality we now have.

PN, it appears the cops showed when they were called the first time, the timeline in the linked article is kind of fuzzy. The son who called dad to return home should have also called the cops when he called dad.
And, they weren’t all teens, the guy with the gun was 21, the guy who hit LaVelle with the pipe was 32.

Well, UpNorth, when seconds count the cops are only minutes away. That is NOT a dig at the cops, because they can’t be everywhere all the time, it’s just the reality of the situation.

We have become a society where responsibility is the other person’s problem and we can act any way we want and it’s based on several factors including the “entitlement” mentality. Yes, I said it. As I said earlier; if the situation were reversed, this would have been absolutely huge in both media coverage and the scope of police protection for the family. You would have had the NBPP thugs there surrounding the house, armed and hatin on whitey. Sharpton and Jackson, the racebaiter twins, would have been in front of the house with bullhorns in hand and inciting the crowds and cameras. It would have made the LaCrosse player investigation look like a side show. Plus, it would have given the local thugs a free pass to burn down whitey’s neighborhoods.

I admit I did not follow the link to the article. I was wondering, if the kids who the homeowner gave refuge to had also been black, would it make any difference. That they are white doesn’t surprise me…

Well, Miss Ladybug; as has been noticed, this has been happening more frequently and there are stories about minority on white attacks happening quite a lot in Philly, lately. This is just the latest. It certainly won’t be the last. Now, if this had happened at my house, the cops would be drawing chalk outlines, because there would have been at least 3 to draw around. However, I think that it wouldn’t have gotten to the point it did had Mr. Lavelle been armed. No one gets all brave staring down the barrel of a shotgun and the 3 would have not been inclined to come in the door and thus, this situation would have been diffused quickly.
With everything I am seeing in the media and in the blogosphere regarding hate crimes, it appears that only white on black is considered a hate crime. I have seen several racist black on white crimes, but they are not hate crimes because apparently only whites can be racist.
Personally, living in Oregon, if something like that were to happen to me, I would make sure that every single person entering my house was laying face down inside of it. The law in this state is that, during a home invasion, as long as the perpetrator dies inside the house, then it is not a crime against the homeowner. So, I might have to double-tap a couple, just to make sure.

Flagwaver, Michigan loosened their standard a while back. Now, you’re “allowed”/s to defend yourself wherever you have a legal right to be. And, contrary to what our dem governor said at the time, the streets did not run red with blood. But, more than a few of the asses have been put down by citizens since the law changed.
But, you’re right, as long as it’s white on________ crime, it’s a hate crime, the other way, not so much.
When you train horses and dogs, you start when they’re young, and you teach them manners. If you don’t, when they get grown, you end up bringing them under control. That is a far more dangerous and painful process, both for you and the animal.
