Honoré speaks

| August 5, 2011

StrikeFO sends us a commentary from Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, the man who commanded the military response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster and coined the phrase “stuck on stupid”. Honoré pontificates on how we can fix Congress and politicians in general;

It’s time to get draconian. But not with the helpless elderly who need their Social Security payments, not with the powerless Army private supporting a family. I mean it’s time to load our elected officials on troop planes and send them to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Put them in tents with no air conditioning, have Army drill sergeants teach them teamwork and physical sacrifice. When they recognize their responsibility to the people of America, they can return to D.C., their upscale restaurants, and military plane trips, as though they were royalty.

And if they can’t? Better that they should fail to learn what an 18-year-old Army private understands than continue to fail America.

I don’t know if it’d work or not, but it’d sure be fun to watch on live TV.

Screw that. Send them to PARRIS ISLAND. And make it a reality TV show. At a minimum we would get something useful out of it, entertainment. Congress isn’t worth shit otherwise.

Honore…I was around a couple of guys who worked for him from time to time.

The most memorable was a CPO SEAL who did some staff time at JFCOM, IIRC.

The Chief remarked that you pretty well knew what kind of day it would be by how many times Honore used the term “mother-fucker” before 0700, during the morning brief.

I always enjoyed working for senior O’s like that…you always knew where they stood and what they expected.

The best part of working for officers who could talk in layman’s terms was that you didn’t have to tap dance around them with your choice of words. Unlike most Staff pukes I liked working with an officer who could speak at my level and not with that typical West Point holier than thou mentality.

Camp Shelby, I was there back in 06 and I can second what Honore said. They can wear fully loaded body armor in the middle of the summer down there and learn a few things.

I REALLY like this guy……

Where was this General through my career? All the Generals I ran into would tell you “good job” when your so battered and bloody you just want to lay down and die

Just once, I’d pay money to see my former DI SSG Goss drop Red Nanny’s ass when she tried to invoke, “But do you know who I am?” and keep her in the Lean and Rest position til she begs for mercy- only to have to drop again so she eat, shit or get her mail.
Honore is correct about this. It’s the only way they will understand whom they work for. Give them the same pay and hold them to the same UCMJ code, same everything. Then see how many of these lying bastards and bitches want to “serve” the people.

You know as a chicklet with 1st Med Group, Colonel Timberlake always treated me the ladies as such, but, if he got bothered would excuse his language and carry on. How can you not love a dude who will tell it like it is? 🙂

I copied this from PIGAZETTE dot com today, and thought it worthy to pass along, especially in this conversation:

“Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes I’ve heard in all this drama about the debt ceiling:
“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told Becky Quick. “You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.” ”

Love it.

I despise reality TV, but that’s a show I’d watch!

I remember Honore when he was the CG of 2ID 10 years ago. He hasn’t changed a bit and that’s a good thing.

If you put all of Congress in that program, and on pay per view, you’d raise so much money the first week…
