Marines mugged by 2 unarmed men in STL
Old Trooper sends us a link that sounds a bit funny about three marines who were attacked and robbed by two unarmed men during Marine Week in St Louis;
Police say one of the suspects punched a Marine. Another suspect reportedly took a pocket knife from the other Marine and poked him with it, causing a minor cut. The Marines told police the suspects took one of their wallets and ran away.
Police say a third Marine was also present, but was not fully involved in the fight.
Marine Spokeswoman Capt Kate Vanden Bossche provides this reason that two criminals are still walking around with fully functioning limbs;
Marines have been given rules of engagement not to engage in any violence except to protect their lives.
I wasn’t there, so I don’t know, but it just sounds a bit unreal.
Category: Military issues
Maybe the Marines were sore from their visit to the Blue Oyster.

Jonn- the only excuse I can offer is that they were probably 3 Boots who had no clue how to fight other than their awesome MC Martial Arts training in boot camp which teaches you the epic eye gouge and the ninja trip.
According to Biermann’s link, it looks like the Marines involved changed their version of the events (or someone who talked to the police afterwards). It looks like all that is definite is that wallet was stolen.
At any rate I’m sure it’s “disappointing” to some that this story didn’t fit their ‘expectations’ of how Marines or other military ‘should’ act when confronted with thugs. That is, that they should beat the snot out of any assailant. That is the “hollywood” idealized version.
The reality is Marines, or any other military personnel, are humans just like the rest of us, and act differently in different scenarios.
I wouldn’t admit to that.
Now because these marines did not stand up to the guy he is free to rob someone else. I am embarrassed for them.
Strike FO, you forgot my favorite move of all time: Hammerfist!
Some drill instructors I knew referred to the boot camp martial arts training as “A licensed to get your ass kicked”. As in, freshly minted Marines go home on boot leave and start shit in bars, thinking their 10 hours of MCMAP training has made them Ken Shamrock.
I’m sorry, “rules of engagement”. STFU!
I saw this story earlier, it just seems a couple of semi drunk Marines were jumped by a pair of thugs who weren’t.
As #4 above mentioned there was some concern about some of the statements the Marines’ made.
Watch, the story will morph it something out of the Marvel Universe.

and the Marines brag about being the best at everything, lol. Wow, ist in trouble last to stand up for themselves!
my friend wanted to know something about this, ill point him to your blog, thx
From the sounds of it, there were three Marines, two of which were piss-drunk. A couple of sober thugs mugged them, the third was probably more concerned over the safety of his buddies because you never know when a thug is packing.
The City was the one who called it all bullshit and said it never happened. I’m not going to potentially risk my life or the lives of my friends over a wallet. Hell, after growing up in Sacramento, I always carry a second junk wallet. In the zippered cash part, it carries a flash popper that activates when opened (I knew some pyrotechnics guys that taught me how to set it up).
